I bought mine with 142k on it for $3.500, invested additional $500 for replacing belts, brake rotors, brake pads and power steering pump. The biggest problem is a stiff wheel, even after replacing the power steering pump. I think the mechanic overloaded the power steering fluid container as the readings are well above max. Can that cause a stiff wheel? Did a transmission fluid flush as the old one was yellow/orange and this one is bright pink now. I have a famous headlight problem and problems with the tape on BOSE system. I fixed rear right speaker with one tube of crazy glue and it now has perfect bass. As for the noise that comes from under the vehicle, I had that and the problem was holding strap which was literally burned out of rust and heat. I bought some metal strap at a local auto-part store and fixed that somehow, the noise is almost not noticeable now. It is a great car overall, except for the gas consumption. Mine gets about 15mpg/22mpg highway. That is pretty high. Handling during winter is the biggest issue with this car as it is virtually uncontrollable at more than 2 inches of snow (even with MS tires). I bought a repair manual for it and I am planning to do a detailed check-up on it. In my opinion, this is a rock-solid brand and this particular model is a living legend;it deserves a remake.
My wife's 93 J-30, bought from dealer as a demo unit in early 94, has yet to hit 50,000 miles. Runs great, but have the constant problem of the door locks locking themselves in and out of the car. Before I take it to the local Infiniti dealer I've been checking various web sites and have been advised that it is the "door lock timer" located on driver's side far into and high up in the driver side of the console.
I have searched parts warehouses and they show a "relay" part no. P2020-86836. It costs less than $20 but the question is, is this the same as the "door lock timer?
Thanks for any info.

Concerning the sunroof leak during the car wash... the fix may be as simple as pouring some bleach down the drains for the sunroof... there is actually a drain that runs along each side, from the front corner of the sunroof cavity down through the pillars in the doors... they clog over time with dirt and debris... I simply ran a wire down the drains and followed with some bleach... much like pouring bleach down the drain hose of your home a/c unit.
I recently purchased a '94 J30T from an individual really cheap. $700. It is a wonderful car.
The only problems I have with it are these:
1. Dash lights do not work.
2. Put in after-market stereo and speakers and still having that "popping" sound on one side.
3. Sunroof leaks.
Other than that, I love the car. It had 162,000 miles on it when I bought it, and it still has plenty of power and gets good mileage.
If anyone can help me with the few small problems that I'm having, contact me at itttech06@yahoo.com, put in subject line j30. Thanks.
I have a 1995 J30 with 130K and recently when I get up to 60 mph, the check engine light will appear and stay on then go off. If I am expressway driving at 70+ the light does not come on. I put some Marvel Mystery Oil in the fuel tank before this happened. I am not sure if the sensors are detecting the additive or what. The light stays on for maybe 5-10 minutes and then disappears. Anyone know whats up???
I live in Palm Springs area and have a '94 J30) really love it. I bought it from the Beverly Hills area and am expecting it has had the timing belt changed. I wonder if there is anyway to check wear and tear etc. on the belt. If I go to PS Infinity they will insist on changing it for a fortune. I don't have all the records, but think maintenance was done. Love the car, I have had Caddy's BMW, Lexus and this is the best car. Also trouble with moonroof (so I don't use it) Has a mind of its own regarding the locking and unlocking system. It is funny when the alarm goes of on the passenger side when everything else is locked. Have 154K on it and really love the car better than any other. I am afraid of the timing belt though.
Truthhawk@gmail.com for any comments. Great car so far.
Has anybody found the solution to the doors automatically locking themselves and remaining so? I now have a 150k mile J30 1994 with three of the four door permanently locked. Help!
I bought a 95 J30 in February of this year and love it, but, I have a few problem with it.
My rear passenger window doesn't let down.
My sun roof doesn't work and it leaks.
My CD player doesn't work, I have a personal CD player with cassette deck (that goes in the tape deck) in order to play my CD's, and I need front and rear struts.
If you can help with any of these problems, please feel free to let me know. Thank you.
Regarding the rear window staying down. I had a problem with that in my 94 J30. I thought I was going to have to get a whole replacement for it so I went with my shade-tree beer mechanic to the junkyard and found a Q45 which has the same window. We took it out and brought it back to replace it. When we took the paneling off, we actually he, discovered it was just stuck and he messed with it and it came back up. It was really annoying for a while. I think we sprayed it with WD-40 but I still have the replacement parts. If you want, you can have someone mechanical take off the door panel and unstick it once you get it up and don't ever roll it down, just in case. I think it is a slight imperfection in the way the body curves react with the window, but what do I know. The struts you must get at a salvage yard or they are expensive at the dealers. I got some from a Katrina car and they work better than the originals, but still suck cuz they are rusty. Hope this helps
John.
We own a 93 J30 with 135000 km on it. The car is pristine and runs like new. Last week we started experiencing a problem with the ABS light coming on. After the car is shut off, there is some motor which keeps on running for about 15 min. Does anybody have an idea what the problem could be?
I got a 94 j30 this past year with 232k, the car runs great, the problems I am having seem to be the same the headlights going off while I drive, thanks for the info on the relay I will order with infinity. also does anyone know where I can get the seal for the sunroof, mine has a small piece missing dead center towards the back which lets water in during car wash, and my bose stereo just went on the blink, is this the stock radio/cd. has anyone had any problems with thier manifolds? I love this car and would rather sink some $$$ in vs getting into payments for another car, any advice please email me at lvnnurserob@yahoo.com.
I just bought a 1994 j30T this past week and the car drives great except sometimes my transmission sounds like its slipping. The car cost 3850 and it has 115000 on it! It exudes a lot of power, but I am worried about the transmission, I plan on getting my transmission flushed very soon and I am so glad that someone told me that you are supposed to get it flushed every 60,000 miles. I love my car, but I'm having problems with my radio-working period and my dash too. If anyone can help email me at queesh11@yahoo.com.
I just got a 93 J30... Sunroof has a part dead center that shows light from inside cabin... any way to seal it? I'd rather have a broken sunroof that's sealed...
Rear window won't go down... Gonna fix the rear bose speaker with super glue...
Odometer stopped moving.. any suggestions?
I purchased a 94 j30 a few weeks ago. I'm curious to know a few things. it has 178k miles. how much longer will this car last? it has a horrible screeching sound when you turn it on- what is that? and I guess there is a oil leak which is leaking onto the exhaust and causing lots of smoke. whats the worst that could happen if I don't get this fixed? overall I love this car.
I just bought a 94 j30 with 220,000 miles on it, I am the 3rd owner and so far I love this car.
I do have the sunroof sticking problem also, but all you need to do is push it up with your hand while trying to close it, and that works for me.
My back right speaker also pops, but I will pop out the cover and try the super glue idea to see if that works.
The previous owner had it 7 years and she said she never had any problems with it.
The only thing that worries me is that sometimes when I'm taking off from a complete stop, it seems like it doesn't want to switch into 2nd gear, the rpms will get between 4-5 sometimes before it does. I have even had to change gears manually while driving from D to 3rd gear and then it will kick in, so then I'll change it back to drive.
I have a mechanic friend who mentioned that it could be an electrical sensor for the transmission, and that at least it would be cheaper then a new tranny all together. I was just curious if any other drivers had this issue??
