I have a '98 Altima GXE, and around 146,000 miles it still runs great! When I go over bumps, it squeaks a bit, but that's nothing 'major'. The brakes are fine, they do squeal a little when applying the brakes, but that's just dust that builds up. Nothing major to clean out.
I have a 1998 Nissan Altima GLE and it runs great!!! I have no problems with it whatsoever.
I own a 1998 Nissan Altima Se. This has been one of the best cars I have owned. Yes, the brakes are noisy, so I replaced them with some aftermarket carbon metallic pads. Cost was under $80. Problem solved. I know people who have put over 200k on their Altimas with very little trouble. If your lifters are making noise, change your oil more often or try switching brands. Certain types of oil make the lifters (tappets?) tick. I have over 70k on mine and the oil hardly changes color after 3000mi. I would highly suggest looking at Altimas as your next car.
If you did not like the car during your test drive, why did you buy it?
I own a 1998 Altima SE. It has been the best car I have owned so far. Yes the stock brake rotors warp easily, but aftermarket ones are much better. I have over 80,000 miles on it. All I can say is that if you have to rebuild the engine after 50,000 miles, your maintenance schedule may need to be changed. The 24kade engine in the altima is virtually bullet proof and should go well over 200,000 miles with out a rebuild.
I own a 1995 Nissan Altima. I have 325,000 miles on the car and have had no problems.
I have a 1994 Altima, and she's my girl! My hubby and I are military and being in NM for 6 years meant a lot of driving. Then we booked it to SC twice. I know a lot of guys tend to baby their cars and that may make them last longer, but I'll tell ya what... I drive hard and fast, and if anyone's Alti should have put them down by now it's mine, but she's still kicken. At well over 150,000 miles, the only thing I've done are oil changes (when I remember and only if I'm going to be at Wally World shopping anyway) the starter, which I wrecked, always trying to start the car when it was already running (chicks huh?) and the brakes, which I've changed regularly on all 3 of my vehicles because of how I drive! I love my car, BUT I don't like the new body styles, so if mine ever dies (God forbid) I'll probably move up and see how long it take me to wear down a Beamer! lol.
