Hi, just reading the comments about the renault megane coupe immobiliser failure. I too am having the same problem and this is the second unit that I've had to replace. It seems to come through the ariel, but I've had this sealed although there may have been a little moisture remaining which has caused it to short again. I was hoping that I could maybe dry it out this time, but am unsure how to disconnect the four wires still attached to the roof, can anyone advise?
I have a Megane Coupe 97 and am having the immobiliser problems as well. The only solution I have found is to take the fuse out of the immobiliser and replace with a simple switch. Then you just turn the electrics off when starting the car and then back on once the car is started. Only problem being central locking does not work!!
I can anyone tell me whats wrong with my car I press the fob on my key and it will not open it I can open it by putting the key in the door, but I can press the fob, but it will not turn the immobilizer off I phoned Renault they want 85 pound to tell me the problem it's a Renault Megan sport r plate I would be grateful if some body could tel me what the problem is thanks.

I have had numerous problems with my keys etc. and am totally sick of my Renault Scenic 1.6RT - R reg... to the point where I'd like to dump it in a ditch and forget I ever owned it.
Renault are very happy to take money off you for doing very little. To reprogramme a key I was charged £140, the whole thing takes 10 minutes max (A very good rate of pay). If you need to enter your code (which I got from Renault direct using just the details off my car registration doc) follow instructions below:
- Switch key on to the point where the red light on the dashboard is flashing fast.
- Using the door locker button press and hold it down while counting the number of flashes for you first number of the code.
- Repeat this for the other three numbers in your code.
- If you've done this correctly the light will go steady red and you can start the car.
If your key needs reprogramming after getting out of sync with the immobiliser follow this:
- At the point where the light goes steady, turn off the ignition.
- Press and hold the door locker until it clunks, then point it at the receiver and press 3 times. If the key and receiver are OK this sometimes re-syncs the codes.
I have been doing this for the last 6 months as I refuse to pay a single penny more to Renault. It takes about 30 seconds in all, but this can be a pain at petrol stations when there is a queue - everyone wonders what the dodderer at the front is doing when they get back in their car!
I am now going to a local garage which has a diagnostic computer. They have said that they may be able to switch off the immobiliser permanently with this, or reset the code to something smaller (1,1,1,1 rather than all high numbers like mine!). I will post again on the success or failure of this.
Hi, all those with Infra Red immobiliser problems and unhelpful dealers, I can help you out, see here http://www.coupe-club.org.uk/smf/index.php/board,41.0.html.
I had the same problem with immobiliser sometimes working and sometimes not with key, but have sourced the problem; if your car is fitted with a sunroof, you will have to take the corner of the roof lining off in car, and you will see your rain run off pipe, which is white. Pull this off at the sunroof end, and with a hand pump and the inside of a pen attached to the end, place inside tube and squeeze it, and pump to push all moss and muck out, which blocks pipe.
Do this because water does not escape otherwise from the sunroof, and then in turn goes either into your footwell, which I had, and also into your immobiliser receiver, which is located on your roof lining. Do this for both sides.
Once you have done this, take your receiver out and either spray wd40 on it and dry with damp cloth, or place it on your radiator overnight, then replace an voila! It works perfect.
I've done this many times now for lots of Renaults. If you still have trouble with it, just ask me rodneybuddy5401 at aol dot com as there are a couple more ways to sort it without Renault expenses.
Hope this helps.

Just got back from Europe without my Megane 05 Cabriolet 1.6.
Roof went into boot and indicated complete operation. Side windows came up.
I opened the boot to put a few papers in and then tried to close the boot. It would not close. I pressed it down firmly and the rubber cones on the lid underside smashed the sunroof, as the whole roof had not dropped into place.
Car is still in Southern France. Anyone else had a false indication of the roof operation?
Hi I'm just writing to let you all know there is a way on the internet to get your immo code free. I have a r reg renault megane and for some reason my key wouldn't turn off the immobiliser I changed the batteries in the key and still no joy so I was searching the internet for answers and hey presto I found a web site that gives you the code and instructions on how to reset your immobiliser and resync your keys for free it took a few attempts to resynch the key, but eventually worked I also disconected the sensor above the rear view light and sprayed it with wd40 then replaced it (don't forget to disconnect it) i found eveything I needed on http://www.bba-reman.com/content.aspx?content=Test_for_Renault_Key_Immobiliser_failures_emergency_recode you will need the model type number (found on vin plate) and the key number found inside the key if you need any help I can try to help you just contact me louisewestern@yahoo.co.uk.
Please help!!
I have just bought a Renault Megane cabriolet, 1998. It's a nightmare.
The car has an ineffective immobiliser system, but worse than that, it conked out at the traffic lights and I had to be bump-started to get home.
When I stopped at home the car would not start again. I got the battery changed, and all the lights and roof worked OK; just no turn over, just a click.
Does anybody know what this might be? I'm not very mechanically minded so I'd appreciate all the help I can get! thanks, Kelly ;-)

Hi, can anyone help?
I have a T reg 1.6 coupe, which keeps stalling & struggles to start sometimes. Have not got a scooby doo what the problem is.
Has anyone else had this problem?
Thank you for address where you can get free immo code. It really works. My both plip keys on Renault Megane where desynchronized, and I successfully synchronized them. Thank You very much.
I have the same problem with the immobiliser not turning off, I have tried the key sequence etc, it didn't work and after a few goes that stopped the light flashing slowly to enable you to do this correctly, also lately the electric windows developed a mind of their own going up and down at will! Anybody have any further ideas please?

Hi; After buying a renault scenic 1.6 1998 in january, my heart has been absolutely broken! She drove well for a couple of months until the timing belt snapped. After inspection, we decided she needed a head, but for only a few quid more we could get an engine, so went for it. After changing the engine all was well... for two weeks! Think it may have something to do with the immobiliser, here's what's happening: nothing! No lights on the dash, no immobiliser light flashing either, but if you walk away and come back sometime later, hey presto, everything is hunky-dory! But the duration between these events is becoming longer. The key fob always worked OK with the central locking, but unlike some renault's I've driven, if you didn't start her up soon after opening the doors, you had to lock and then unlock the car to kill the immobiliser. In this one, you could leave her unlocked, go and make the supper, come back and she'd start no problem. If anyone has any ideas what's wrong, I'd be extremely grateful, because I really am getting close to beating it with a sledge!
Hi guys, my missus has a '98 R megane coupe sport - does anyone know if it is possible to disable the immobiliser timing device? (once you unlock to door you have 30secs to start the engine otherwise the immobiliser cuts in and you have to lock... unlock in order to get it to go off again. Also I have a clifford alarm that I bought a while ago, is it possible to fit this and the immobiliser still work, but without the 30sec time limit?
Cheers.
Rich.
