1998 Dodge Intrepid. So does anybody know why the 2.7 engines stalls. If so please post or Email ME Rvk16@aol.com. Somebody please email mail me with a answer.
I am amazed to see the same problems I have had with my own 1999 dodge intrepid. I just replaced the AC compressor. The drivers window stopped working long ago just like everyone else's. Last night my AC fan went out which blew the ac fuse and the mechanic says that my radiator fan also is going bad, and there isn't one in town to fix it with... maybe there is a reason, like a LOT of us are having the same problems here.
ANYWAY..i talked to Dodge and they gave me the Chrysler customer service number. Unless a LOT of us complain about this the engineers of this car won't do a thing.. so everyone, please call this number and let them know this is a major problem so we can get some action on these items.

Wow, I'm in th same boat (wifes first impression of the car), as most of you.
I purchased a '99 used in 2000, It was a hertz rental return with 23k miles on it. In the first year I had a speed sensor, and a a window regulator replaced.
The next year I replaced 2 regulators, last year, I replaced two speed sensors within a months time. Last month 6/04 I had to replace the cooling fan, and now the oil light is coming on regularly, when slowing down (coming into town, or at a light). I always replace my oil every 4k miles. I'm afraid of the dreaded $7-10k engine replacement bill... Class action, LETS GO!
Well, I sure was surprised when my son-in-law told me about this site. I love my 1999 Intrepid??!! Except for the three windows that don't work, not being able to shift out of first gear (for the second time), having to add oil every couple hundred miles (without having any visible means of leakage), a rattle in the right frontend... should I go on???
I didn't want to believe my friends when they told me I bought a lemon. The car ran so well the first couple of years. If there is a law suit you can count me in halleh@cablespeed.com.
Well folks, my 1999 Dodge Intrepid is in the shop at this very moment. I purchased this car last April and got a good deal on it too, for obvious reasons. Fortunately, I did heavy research on this car before I actually bought it. You would not believe how many web-sites are out there, with many of the issues that have been presented in this thread. Anyway, aware of these issues, I figured, I'd buy the car, give it the best maintenance possible, and then trade it in next year. And to think, I actually thought that I would have a free ride all year (I paid cash for the car, so I figured my trade-in would cover the price considering I paid far less than the Blue Book value). Yeah right, I am currently having my cooling fan replaced on the left side, which was quoted to me at around $150, plus $70 /hr for labor. Oh, but wait, I just received a call stating that the cost has now doubled, because.. guess what, both fans are out. Wow! I must admit, I'm pretty pissed. The only advantage I have is that my car is paid for, but I sympathize greatly for those of you that are being overwhelmed with car-notes and maintenance fees. This car is every mechanics dream. Guaranteed to make more than a few bucks in the garage. The guy that sold it to me was easily talked-down on his price, because I began reciting recalls and testimonials etc. The funny thing was, he told me, if parts fail, bring it to his shop and he would give me a 5% discount on repairs. Smart man.. he can add. I can almost bet he said to himself, "What an idiot! Sure, I'll reduce the sticker price because repairs are inevitable for this car. Soon, your money will be all mine..Ahahahaha!" I am just hoping that this will be the last round of repairs. I cannot imagine using my little 5% discount on a $7,000 to $10,000 motor repair. It just wouldn't happen. Anyway, below you will find some websites that have been helpful to me. Just copy and paste. Please give them a browse.. and remember, 100 voices are louder than 1.

I have have had many of the same problems others have presented with the Dodge Intrepid. My version is from 1999, and within weeks of usage (purchased used in 2002 with 35,000 miles on it) the driver's side window failed to work. I have experienced many of the same problems that others have expressed: check engine, stalling, strange engine noises, speedometer remaining at zero when driving, etc. I would like to kept abreast of a potential class-action lawsuit--how long can we accept such incredibly poor service in a product? Especially to the tune of 5-10K in possible engine replacements? I'm very angry and wish to move forward at any level of providing us, the customer, with some guarantee of a working product.
Thank you.

I wish I would have seen this before agreeing to buy my mother-in-law's 99 Dodge Intrepid. I found this site only because I was searching the internet for what might be wrong with my car. We've had the car for about 4 months and its been in the shop 3 (soon to be 4) times. Before they sold it to us, they just got it out of the shop to fix the oil leak and passenger side window. After being in the shop 3 times the oil light is still coming on. Today I was driving along and noticed my speedometer wasn't working and my check engine light came on. What have I got myself into!? My in-laws have paid the service fee's since it was supposed to be taken care of before we bought the car. Also I was told that the car had no problems in the past. The whole reason we bought the car in the first place is because we have a 8 month old now. I was driving a 94 Buick Regal (which has never left me stranded) and the in-laws thought we should have a more "reliable" car.

I have a 99 dodge intrepid, the car used to run good until yesterday, it died on me. the oil pressure light come and, the check engine light too. I think is the O2 sensor.
Thank God for this page. I have a 1999 dodge intrepid. It has been parked for almost two years. I cannot afford an engine. I am still making my regular payment because I do not want to mess up credit. Please if there is a class action let me know.
I purchased my 1999 Dodge Intrepid, new in April 1999, it now has 165,000 miles and I too, have experienced many of the same problems. I have replaced the fuel pump twice, the catalytic converter and O2 sensors twice. After reading this site I think I won't be buying another Dodge. I just finished paying for the car in April and want to wait until next spring to purchase a different car, so I hope for the best in the next few months. Oh yes, the windows go up and down whenever they choose and my oil light flickers at times, but the dealership says nothing in wrong. I am definitely rethinking another Dodge purchase.
LE.
So why Aren't we getting a class action suit going? I mean surely there is ENOUGH unsatisfied customers to band together. The company acted like they were totally unaware of any problems when I called, so is everyone yelling at the "powers that be" at Dodge?
I forgot to mention in an earlier post,..Has anyone had problems with the electrical system just coming on at will? Like you go over the railroad tracks and all the lights inside turn on, or the lights on the speedometer go off, or the overhead lights go on for NO reason at ALL. I had it checked and they said the battery plate was fractured, I fixed that, but its STILL doing it.
Its time we are heard, and just griping here isn't going to do it because dodge said they didn't pay any attention to website comments... anyone know where we go from here?
Oh, this wonderful '99 Intrepid. I bought it new and thought that I'd give it to my daughter to drive to college. Yeah, right. I've met three or four others with exactly the same troubles that I have experienced, and now looking at all of these other folks that the Chrysler Corp. has made a lasting impression on, I know why you can't get a straight answer at the dealership. Daimler Chrysler apparently spent their entire product engineering budget on the body guys and skimped on the mechanical engineers.
Where to start? Speed sensor twice, every window motor twice, except the driver window motor/mechanism;a whopping four times. Moldy air conditioning smell three times before they stopped spraying fa-breeze into the vents and found the drain tube was bent and plugged. Burned out electric fan motors (both). Now this reliable 2.7 l motor is making horrible sounds with the oil light coming on. The dealership says (after 7 days of intense communications with Chrysler engineers, that the timing gear needs to be changed, for a paltry $1493.00. After reading all the comments, I suspect the truth is much worse. The value of this thing barely rates the 1500- investment, let alone the cost of a rebuilt 2.7 engine.
Surprisingly, the guys at the junk yard say there is a waiting list for used 2.7 engines. Has anyone checked on the possibility of replacing the 2.7 engine with a used 3.2?
This has been the most enjoyable car to drive that I have owned. Except for the constant mechanical failures I'd be tempted to buy another one. Sadly, I'll never own another Chrysler product. As a former autoworker, it breaks my heart to confess that this Intrepid is probably the last American car I'll buy. I really hate to see all the folks that have been stuck with payments and a car they can't afford to repair. One or two might be just bad luck, but this many people in the same predicament should be criminal.
Good luck to all of you.
Well,
As with everyone else, we too are paying for a 99 Intrepid with the infamous 2.7 L engine. Same scenario as everyone else just repeated. Window motors in the back quit working, passenger window came off track at 72,000 miles, mold smell coming from the air vents when air conditioner is on, AND oil light flashing when at a light, but no evidence of oil leaking on garage floor or anywhere else. Now at 99,000 miles, the engine has a rod knocking and needs replaced. For $5,800 at the dealership that we bought it!!! Well, thank you!!! Wish I too was aware of this prior to loan signing! We are currently trying to contact Chrysler and anyone who has any information about this problem. I have NOT paid for the USED engine to be put in for $2800 only for this to happen again! And I will not! I will continue to look for information, or justice if you will, from Chrysler, or a lawyer. With this many people, lets join together and fight this!!

Well, like everyone above I too have a 99 Dodge intrepid that is just sitting in my garage, My husband purchased the car a year ago for me to drive around town, and to date I have driven it twice, the engine had to be replaced, the sensors also, we replaced one, and was told after we took it back in, the other one needed to be replaced, we have taken it to 4 different auto repair mechanics (the first being a dodge dealership) trying to find out what is wrong, it has the clicking noise that was mentioned and now it doesn't even start. this is very upsetting because I have three children that need to get back and forth to school.
What is really funny is that my husband about 8 months ago when the intrepid was in the shop, purchased a 91 plymouth acclaim for $500 that has only required regular oil changes. Is there already an action suit if so contact me at queenmotherisaac@msn.com.
I, too, am the owner of a 1999 Dodge Intrepid. I purchased the car in 1999 new and through the past 5 years I have determined that I will not ever buy another Chrysler product. The car has had:
