I started reading everyone's comments regarding their Blazers and had to add my two cents!! I too have had major problems with my Blazer. It's a 2000 with 73,000 miles (90% highway) and it's currently at the shop for new wheel bearings, upper and lower ball joints, idler arms, hub assembly and transfer case. Thank God I got the extended warranty, especially since I have to pay to replace the main drive belt for the second time. I thought I was doing a good thing buying American, but I will never buy another Chevy Blazer again. I've had nothing but problems with it since I drove it off the lot and had a blown shock and had to replace the parking brake assembly at 250 miles!!

Have a 1999 blazer and have had it in the dealer shop 5 times with it not starting. was told the first three time it was the battery and it was replaced under the warranty after I complained over and over because they tried to tell me the battery was not under the warranty. the next two times was after the warranty had expired and it also was the battery. I have asked to have all the electrical at first checks and the altinator, but I feel they never did.
Last night again the same problem for time number six. no way will I ever buy another chev. blazer or any chevy for that reason.
I have a 2000 Chevy Blazer LS with 29,000 miles. I am facing replacing the right front wheel bearing. The fun begins.
I have a 99 LT Blazer that I got with 20,000 miles on it about year ago (2002.) I have had no problems except that it does die on me quite often. It started at stop signs and then during traffic and always started up again. Then it progressed to dying while driving on the Highway going about 70 MPH. I have taken it to the Dealer and they had no occurance with it, but replaced a computer part. Any one else had a problem like this and maybe a solution? I am taking it back today to the dealer and I need help!! I also have a flashing of the clock and lights on the temperature and dash every now and then, but not sure if that is related.
Well the parts find is at an end for the Blazer 2WD hubs.. After the last several months doing hunting and getting wrong info, I found out the CORRECT leads, etc..
Timken is the Original manufacturer and their part number (SP450300 which includes hub, bearing, and speed sensor) is NOT available from anyone (Timken no longer has the part in normal production anymore... WONDER WHY??!!)
but Dist price is $260...Found GMDIRECT. com has the part... for $243 + shipping!! Not bad! Weight is about 9lbs each... and shipping becomes almost $100 alone! but cheaper that way than going to Chevy and paying $475 a PIECE without labor..
RockAuto.com does have an AC Delco version, but costs more (has 2yr limited warranty on it... not sure the warranty on Timken... I THINK 1 yr/12000miles)...
Oh well, my Blazer finally gets its bearings changed.. now what else will brake? (Water pump already is leaking... time for a new one!)

I bought my 1999 Blazer LT brand new six years ago and its been very reliable. I replaced the alternator at about 75,000 miles, which was a piece of cake. The engine started running hot at about 70,000 and we were finally able to determine the radiator needed to be 'rodded out'. After that was done, I haven't had any problem with the cooling system.
The A/C compressor needs to be replaced now, at about 100,000 miles, and that's going to cost about $800.00. My mechanic recommended the front wheel bearings be replaced. He was going to charge about $550.00. I went to NAPA and got both inner bearings, both outer bearings and new seals, all for $50.00. The Chilton's manual doesn't say anything about replacing a speed guage, or the entire hub being replaced as a single item. I'm just going to pull the old ones off, grease pack the new ones and reassemble the hub.
I thoroughly expect my Blazer to run for another 100,000 miles.
Whell I have a 98 2wd blazer 4dr LT and the front bearings are bad well I can get the whole assembly for 300 or I can get the bearings for 50...hmmm the manual says replace the bearings only the dealer and most mechanics say replace assembly I think that is because the bearings have only recently become available. any ideas let me know, but I will check and if I can remoce the dust cover I will just do the bearings... any ideas please email me at will54768@gmail.com.
I have a 2000 chevy blazer that I bought last year with only 4900 miles on it. It was clean and nice, almost showroom condition.
I do have one huge problem though. The dashboard started flashing like the dashboard cops were after me!!! The vehicle has less than 10,000 miles on it.
The dealership had the car for 5 days and had different techs driving it back and forth the try and figure out what was wrong. (They had my blessing to do this.) I remembered that when the dashboard lights were flashing I could just tap the key chain and the engine would quit. The dealership replaced the ignition switch and everything was fine for a few weeks. Now, every time I go over a bump, the dash goes crazy. I should qualify that though. It isn't everytime I go over a bump, this is an intermittent problem. Lately, I've noticed that when the tank is less than 1/2 full the problem is more likely to come up. Any thoughts? I'm stumped. jedin@usinternet.com.
I have a 1999 Chevy Blazer LT with 24000 miles on it. I purchased it brand new in June of 1999. I am currently having the front end serviced once again, this time having the ball joints replaced. Already the idle arm has been replaced and electrical problems including the power seats, AWD switch and stereo problems have occurred. This vehicle has never been taken off road, is garage kept, and is maintained beyond belief. The brakes started pulsating, but no one can find a reason why. This vehicle is a money pit. Talking to Chevy dealers is like talking to a wall. No one cares. I'm done with American cars. The quality gets worse every year.
I just replaced the alternator on September 7th, (bad diode) and previously the serp. belt and battery were changed. The belt went at 13000 miles. Is Chevy even thinking about a recall on these vehicles? My friend is a dealer mechanic and he said these Blazers are the modern day Yugos.
My wife and I purchased a 1999 Blazer 4dr, 4WD from an owner this year (2007). It has 159,000 miles. Within the first two weeks we have had to replace the water pump ($130), head gasket seal ($320), all new brakes all the way around-new lines, rotors, pads, and hardware ($850), and have been told that the 2 front lower ball joints and idler arm need to be replaced ($500). We paid $4100 cash for this thing and are wondering if we shouldn't just turn around and sell it for a loss. We would rather have money sitting in our account than a broken down vehicle sitting in our driveway. Thanks for listening.

I own a 1999 Chevy 2door Blazer, rolled it new off the dealer lot and have 190,000 plus miles, replaced one right front wheel bearing assembly at 80,000 miles, I am just replacing the brakes for the first time at 190,000 plus miles
and hear from brake shops for this to be quite common for the 4wheel disc ceramic brake pads. Replaced original ac compressor under warranty and replacing it with a superior after-market compressor to double or triple life. After market ignition parts seem to fail, But OEM work great! This vehicle runs great and averages 21 mpg on freeway. Every piece of equipment built by humans is bound to fail, and the ones that fail quickly should be gotten rid of quickly, they will never perform well, no matter who the manufacturer is, it sounds like the ones who end up on this website are the sick ones! Love my Blazer!
I just bought a 2003 chevy blazer. My problems are that the oil valve cover is leaking around the nuts and the dealer tells me this is normal, and when I go from neutral to reverse or drive to reverse there is a very load clunking sound. I have had my own mechanic look at it and told me this was not normal. I brought the vehicle back to the dealer and they said this was a normal sound. They removed the drive shaft to check u-joints and pinion -all OK. Do you have any suggestions on what I can do about this or what the problem might be? Any helpful hints would be great.
1999 Chevy Blazer/TrailBlazer
Bought the TrailBlazer in 2002 from a dealership with 32,000 miles on it and now its sitting at 140,888, so far withen the first year had two transmissions, two alternators, 4 wheelbearings/hubs (1) at 95,000,The other 3 at 138,000. replaced both upper and lower balljoints on both sides, blinker on driver side going bad flashing too quickly, and one bad shock. and the darn roof rack is still squeking. That is about all that I have had to do to the blazer and I am only the second owner.
I have a 1999 chevy blazer, with the same wheel bearing problems. I was going to replace the whole assembly, but after reading some of the forums, I think I am just going to replace the bearing. The left one went out about 100,000 miles and should have had the right one done, because now its making a bunch of noise after 10,000 more miles. Another thing I noticed was the transmission, it went out at about 100,000 miles. The mechanic said that is usual for those blazers. Another thing I wanted to bring up, anybody found a cheap and easy fix for the seat handles breaking?
