I recently cleaned my EGR valve after experiencing engine stumbling, hesitating, even stalling for a couple of weeks. I took out the valve and noticed a couple of carbon chunks lodging the pintle open. I removed these and cleaned the casing with a small soft wire brush and carb cleaner making certain to keep the spring area upright so as not to contaminate it with any debris. I re-installed it and viola, engine runs smooth again. I recommend this done before making the $290.00 dollar purchase of another one that a lot of shady parts dealers will sell you before making the obvious suggestions.
I have a 94 S 15 Jimmy which I love, it is reliable, mileage has always been 20 MPG to 22 MPG. I put in a K & N airfilter, keep tires inflated to 35 PSI. Problems have been few the mileage is 115000. I'm now selling it because I found a 94 S 10 Blazer LT with 29000 miles on it. This will be my forth older style GM 4x4, I did purchase a 97 S 10 and hated it, it went down the road after 3 years. Poor mileage, large turning radius, poor visability.
Where do I start? I have replaced the injector rail, water pump, fuel pump, idler arm, upper and lower ball joints, fuel tank, to mention a few. I had a main bearing go at 94,000. Result was a rebuilt motor which now needs a new head gasket. This truck is the ideal vehicle for me and my activities, although the cost has become outrageous! I probably, after everything is said and done, put 6-7000 dollars into this vehicle. Well past the point of no return. Same problems as you guys have mentioned as well. The leaky passenger side was fixed by unclogging the A/C drain. It comes to a funnel and the end got plugged. One question for whoever. I am purchasing a boat that weighs about 2600lbs. Will the Blazer tow this rig without "too" much trouble? I hope so. Thanks for listening.
Read all the comments with interest. Bought 94 Blazer New ($25,000). Currently at 187,000 miles, Lower ball joints replaced under warranty, Chevrolet told me at the time that I lot of these vehicles were shipped without grease. replaced fuel pump twice, cleaned egr valve just recently. I don't think they need to be replaced, just cleaned. Replaced shift solinoid in transmission at 98,000 miles, code 82 in the ECM, Some body rust beginning, though not bad. This has been a great vehicle. Oh, the fuel pressure regulator failed about 2 years ago, you can buy just the regulator and change it yourself, $98.00. My best advice is don't listen to the dealer, If you have mechanical aptitude, search the net and find out what other folks have tried. Most car problems are common to the same make and model. Still no oil comsumption, and about 20 miles to the gallon highway. Would buy another one in heartbeat.
Hey my name is bill I have been looking into my blazer and the response of others I have a 94 s-10 blazer with the Tahoe package.
Well I'll tell you I was going down the road the other night and it stumbled and died.
Any one help me out
not a EGR problem it's new the spark plugs are not getting any spark
not a gas problem new fuel pump.

Hi all.
I have a 1993 S10 Blazer with the Tahoe package. I have read all of the above entries. Wow, now I know that I'm not alone with these problems. I do have one question though. Does anyone know how to fix the digital dash, or do I need to send it in for repair? I was told it would be about $250 and up to repair it. Please e-mail me at cljb26@yahoo.com for any suggestions.
Altenator, front rotors and brakes, egr valve, and still it seems to smoke a lot and run rough until I blow it out on the highway and then it is fine. Please post information about the smoke and other things that I have mentioned.
Digital Dash must be sent back to the factory to be reprogrammed. 250 is a good deal I think I paid 500.
Wee! I am sitting here reading all these comments at 1 am, since my 93 v6 vortec croaked tonight, yet again, over carbon deposits. At least it had the decency to die near a Canadian Tire (who will gleefully charge me $100 to have the carbon air-gunned out Saturday).
I've replaced the ball joints, twice this year, U-joints, twice (gotta say there are REASONS for ball joints and U-joints to be replaced). Bought it at 110,000 km and in 2.5 years I've accumulated the other miles.
If someone can send me to a site that explains in reasonable detail how to get rid of all the carbon deposits (this is going to be the fourth time in two months) I would be very happy :) hawleyt@algonquincollege.com.

Hi all. I have a 94 S10 Blazer with the Tahoe package and the infamous Vortec engine. I cannot figure out why the car makes a rocket ship sound when it first starts for the day. It is not a high idle, I have tried to kick it down, and sometimes I have to sit for 5 minutes or more before it returns to a more normal idle. It sounds like the car wants to take off. My mechanic thinks I am crazy because the car never does that at his shop. Anybody else encounter this and if so, can you give me a clue please, as to what it might be? Any ideas please e-mail me at morningstartoo@webtv.net. Thanks.
As for the person who wants to know if it will tow a 2,600 lb. boat, no problem if it's running right. I have a 24 ft SeaRay with twin engines and it weighs 12,000 lbs, yes, 12,000 lbs. It is ridiculous I know, but it does it when it's running right which is never. I also had a 3,500 pounder and that was a breeze. I too have replaced everything under the sun twice and for all the guys who say I'm stuck with it because I've spent so much money on it, get rid of it or spend a whole lot more and be miserable. The problems keep coming believe me. I bought my 92 with Vortec for $6,000 and have put another $5,000 into it and it runs worse as time goes on. You'll never trust it believe me. As for the guy wondering about the smoke, It's either the CPI which notoriously goes out (you'll know if you smell a lot of fuel at startup or idle which goes away on the freeway) or the valve oil seals which also go out notoriously with these 4.3 Vortecs. When they run right, they're fabulous and powerful, but the fuel system sucks. HEY! here's a bit of advice, search the marine classifieds and find a mercruiser 4.3 intake and carb. and get away from that damn cpi and fuel injection. Better yet, buy a 4.3 marine motor and bolt it in. It's built a lot stronger, last a lot longer and is maintanance free. I'm an avid boater and know people who prefer the marine motors to the auto and they're built so much stronger since a boat is always under a load. They also make great race mototrs because of their strength. Just a little tip. I'll be doing that with mine soon at about $1,200, it'll be worth it. Best regards,

PS: Chevy, take notice and build them right! Help us out! My Mustang never acts up at 200,000 miles!
Hi Everyone. All the comments about the 94 Blazer could be referring to mine, although I still like it (why is that??). My big problem is with the ABS system. The ABS and brake lights flash alternately on occasion, and when they do, I get a hard brake pedal and no brakes for the first pump or two. The vehicle also pulls to the left as if the front left wheel grabs. This doesn't happen all the time, but it sure is scary when it does. Any similar experiences and/or repairs out there? Please let me know. doc.martin@sympatico.ca Thanks.
I am trying to sell my 94 blazer. I had the heater core start leaking while someone was test driving it. $500 to fix. And now the 4WD won't engage. Light comes on, but no engagement of the front wheels. There was a vacuum hose broken that I fixed so hopefully this was the problem. Seems to me that there is an actuator under the battery linked to the 4WD system so we will see. I have to keep cleaning out the EGR valve too as carbon particles keep getting stuck in it. You can buy a generic valve for about $65 at the auto stores or just get a screen to stop the particle from entering the valve. Only 2 bolts to take the valve off and clean it. Easy to do it yourself. Reply to tpearce@concisedesign.ca Thanks.
I own a 94 blazer. it just started dying today off and on. I changed the fuel filter, cap and rotor. the fuel pump seems to be working. I am about to go crazy. can anyone help. it is a fuel problem I am sure of it.
I can't believe how much everyone who already commented knows my vehicle. I called Chevy about the 2 cpi injectors I had to replace in the last 4 years, the 4 EGR valves, the fuel pump, the 2nd replacement of the lower ball joints, the 4x4 encoder motor, the electronic 4x4 transfer switch. I explained that there should have been a recall on the heater core as that presents a safety issue. Luckily mine didn't dump in my wife's lap, but would have if she were in the car. Every mechanic I bring it to opens the hood, sees that Vortec engine and shakes their head. A very powerful, but very high maintenance fuel system. Runs great when the fuel system is not on the rag! Does anyone out there know how to change the 4x4 encoder motor? ($500 repair at shop) Does anyone know the trick to replace the driver side motor mount? My mechanic changed the passenger side no problem, but threw his hands up on the other. All in all this is a great off road vehicle, but also tends to be a side of the road vehicle too often. If anyone can help me with those questions email to belsucks@bellatlantic.com.
