"Recently, my Blazer is unpredictably stalling, but instantly restarting. Sometimes the air bag or another 'start-up' light will flash, telling me the engine just quit and restarted, other times the car conks out and I have to start it while coasting."

The ignition switch may need to be replaced that is what mine did when the switch started to go bad.

I to have most of the same problems with my 1997 S-10 Blazer (LT) 120,000 Miles; transmission dipstick rust, alternator (1), battery (5), brakes (lost count, but at least 5 front sets and 2 rear), intake manifold leaking, heater core replaced, (DEXCOOL) spark plugs, rotor and distributor (2), gas gauge (still not repaired... using odometer) serpentine belt (4), transmission flush, radiator flush (2), and today... read differential axle seal leaking. It never stops... time for a Honda, Toyota, etc...

I have owned my 1997 Jimmy SLS from day one and it now has about 105,000KM on it. Like a couple of others I have had a few problems, but nothing to the extent most have posted.

Recently however my rear wiper stopped working in the on position. When I push the switch now nothing happens, however last night when I pushed it the wiper moved about an inch. Any suggestions?

I agree with all of you Blazers suck. My girlfriend has the 97. In the last cpl of weeks the a/c went out, but it comes on every now and then. I think its the blower fan (or whatever) because I don't get any air when the key is turned to on. So its weird to me. Goodluck.

I have a 2001 blazer with 4wd. When I push the 4wd button it does engage the 4wd, but it says "service 4wd" what could this mean is wrong with the 4wd system?

My husband owns a 2000 Blazer. He does not get any power to go. Sometimes when he puts his foot on the accelerator it will work good, but sometimes the power is not there like there is a blockage somewhere is it the Dex-Cool? You hope when you pull out in traffic you can go and there has been several times he has to pull off the road cause he slows down to nothing and then it will pick up speed. It does not seem to be normal. His car has about 89,000 miles on it. He changes his oil every 3,000 miles or so. I don't understand that they don't recall cars that seem to have the same problem. This is the second Blazer he has owned. The first one didn't give him too much problems. Any suggestions?

With all do respect, Please do not ever buy a 1997 Blazer. I have had nothing, but problems and I'm still under a 100K. I'm doing myself a favor and selling it while it is running right. Gl to everyone else who owns one.

I bought the 1997 2D Blazer LS for the low miles it had, but reading these comments is making me nervous, if we read this we wouldn't have bought it. I am about to replace the fuel pump assembly, because the pump is out and the gas gauge has never worked, they sold it to me with a full tank of gas. I replaced the U-joints weeks ago, but I've been offroad and in heavy snow so it is a typical fix @ 105,000 miles and not very difficult or expensive... I will be flushing the radiator, I noticed some gook in there... the engine is clean and has been a good truck for me really, but after reading this forum I know not to be surprised when parts start failing...DON'T buy the fuel pump and assembly for $330, when you can get it at a scrap yard for $50.

"My Blazer after 112,000 has been trouble-free other than replacing the transmission during a cross-country move... the dorks at one of those fast lube places didn't check and top off the fluid although they marked the inspection sheet 'full'. Recently, my Blazer is unpredictably stalling, but instantly restarting. Sometimes the air bag or another 'start-up' light will flash, telling me the engine just quit and restarted, other times the car conks out and I have to start it while coasting. Replaced the fuel filter and had injectors cleaned. Problem continued, so now I'm replacing the fuel pump and getting new ignition wires/ cap. Any other ideas?"

- Definitely get the ignition switch replaced, it's a pain if you do it yourself, but it's still a good bet that it's your problem.

Had the exact same thing happen to me, and I changed: Battery, spark plugs, cables, distributor cap, fuel filter, and had an expensive inspection done by a Chevy dealer to no avail... Also was told it was my fuel pump, but found out myself when I turned the key, that the car would delay its start up check sometimes for a few seconds. Also change your ignition module, just in case. Good Luck.

I bought my 97 Blazer in 00, it only had 109Kms on it. I have done repairs on it over the years, it now has 298Kms and it has been a great truck. I just had the fuel pump go on it, but that can be expected. I was told it was going to be expensive, but we found one on ebay (new) for around $120 parts place wanted $780 go figure. It works just fine. It's been an awsome truck for me. I'll drive it till it drops. Has all the options. It needs a rebuild on the tranny, but at this mileage anything would. I do regular maint. and change oil every 5000K. I do have a airbag light on, but mechanic says it not major. I have a great mechanic who worked for GM for 27 years helps me out a great deal.

I've had all the problems listed here for my 97 Blazer!

- replaced ball joints!

- replaced engine! (clip popped off plastic radiator and oil cooler line dis-connected, lost all the oil and before I could get to side of road the engine seized!)

- replaced the heater core! "DEATH-COOL" problem - plugged heater core $600 to replace!

- holes ripping in front seats. Same place each side!

- AND NOW key stuck in steering column. Dealer replaced switch charged $240 and 3 weeks later same problem!

Give me a Japanese car any days! Chevy ain't what it use to be!!!

Hello, I just want to say yes, yes and uh, yes - my car sucks. A 97 Blazer, I need:

A u-joint

Lower ball joints

Idle arm

2 coolant lines which are 100 a piece just for the parts

My AC doesn't work

My back windshield wiper never did

I have replaced my water pump, and get a oil change every 3000 miles, and had a flush

I have not replaced much, but now it's hell and Chevy is the host

Good luck. You will need it, and so do I.

August 20th, 2007: Just about everything known to man has gone wrong with this piece of junk called a truck Blazer that I have. I want to set it a Blaze. Transmission switch, alternator, water pump, fuel pump, dipstick (rusty), radiator, heater core, rear window wiper, egr valve, ball joints, thermostat failure, AC lines leak and won't hold freon, etc. & etc. One of the poorest pieces of machinery ever made, in my opinion. Nothing but a money pit. I'd probably be better with a YUGO.

I have a 97 Blazer... its nearing 100,000 miles and its scaring the hell out of me after reading all the other comments. A few days ago I started to back out of the drive and it died on me. It started right back up like a charm and ran fine the rest of the day until pulling into a gas station when it died again. The next day I was driving down the road... it hesitated and the air bag light blinked twice and afterwards it ran fine again. I changed the fuel filter thinking that may be the problem, but nothings that easy and its very rarely something that simple... none the less it died again the next day. I put on a fuel pressure gauge and it showed 50 psi during idle and up to 60 psi driving down the road, so I don't think its the fuel pump. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I bet it's the fuel pump. That's what slowly died on mine. I'd hit the gas tank when it wouldn't start then it would start. This worked for several weeks then it died on me driving home from work. Current issue with mine is the driver side electric window. I has been sticking when down all the way, but it wouldn't make any noises that sounded like a motor was trying to drive it back up. I popped the door panel off and I guess the jerking of the door freed it up and it went up fine. Looked like there was a white streak on the glass like it was rubbing on something when going up or down.
