Same story, different owner. Bought 2000 2dr 4.3l V-6 used with 13K miles on it. Drove the crap out of it. Replacement parts as follows:

2 ea. drivers seat incline lever (broke again but out of warranty, not paying $200 to replace $2 part

3 ea. passenger seat incline lever (all under warranty)

2 ea. fuel pumps, 1st time gas gauge went, pump 6 months later, second time no warning literally died while driving.

2 ea. motor mounts (driver's side twice, both once)

4 tune up sets (belt/plugs/wires/dist.cap/rotor/filters)

1 set front bearing assy (had over 1/2" play moving wheel vert)

3 sets tires

2 sets brake pads

Brake rotors turned once on front to remove wear lip

1 ea. serpentine belt tensioner

1 ea. side wedge window/driver door seal (warranty covered)

2 ea. factory radio (cd player once, all lights the other)

1 set factory speakers (MCM is CHEAP AND GOOD QUALITY REPL.)

1 ea. set front door bushings

1 ea. front steering stabilizer arm/bearing

3 alignments.

The list goes on with other BS parts. First advice: never pay a dealership to replace most parts. Heater core replacement quote was over $1K, part was ~$210?; Fuel pump is ~$390 at napa, dealer quote over $1,100, Motor mounts are $50, you can replace in your driveway with a small jack and some wood blocks (w/ truck on jacks lightly jack one side of the engine up at a time just a couple inches and swap out the mounts, faster than replacing spark plugs). The seat incline levers were junk. Broke the first one minutes after buying it, just a crappy pot metal lever-axle design. The front wheel hub/bearing is the easiest one of all to replace, it is bolted on with 3 bolts, that's it, you just have to pull the brake caliper off first.

Most all of these issues you can do it your self easier than you think.

Now at 160K miles my transmission (I think) is acting up, won't stay in gear at highway speeds without constant throttle, and fusses about changing to next gear at lower speeds. Dealer just quoted me $5,000 ballpark transmission replacement. I sold cars, this blazer wasn't worth $5,000 3 years ago when I sold them, you're out of your mind if you think I'll pay that to fix a 160K mile vehicle.

Agreed on above, mine is black, paint still looks great when clean, only garaged 1 of the 8 years, roof rack coating peeled off, screw it. Back side windows plastic frames finish worn and rough, screw it. Carpet is trashed, mats worn through, windshield looks like a starfield from rock impacts and sand etching and is now cracked from the last freeze. If I can make this paid for truck run, I'll keep driving it as long as it lasts, even with less than stellar gas mileage (still cheaper than a payment).

Anyone have any ideas on the transmission? Or where/how much I can get a remanufactured or new one for? After all the work I've done on this thing, whats a transmission but a dozen bolts and a few wires to disconnect and replace, right? bring it on.

For the record I've beat the crap out of this truck, I've high-centered it length-wise down fallen trees in the woods, gotten it airborn a couple times, packed it fuller than imagineable and moved hundreds of miles, towed boats and bikes, jump started dozens of friends cars, and made it through any snow or ice just fine while staying warm. And it still runs. So not a bad design, GM just needs to fine tune their designs a bit better, and when they find a flaw, do a recall to fix it for good. Of course, you all saw fight club, they won't do a recall unless x is more.....haha.

PS: don't replace the tires with factory sizes, swap out with Pirelli scorpion zeros (i run 255 r65 i think) if you want a little better stability and cornering. they only cost $5-10 more per tire but improve handling by i'd say a third or more

I've got a 2000 4WD Blazer. I'm having my front wheel bearings replaced for the third time. I've had the ball joints replaced twice. And I have most of the other common problems too. The fuel gauge doesn't work. Dome light doesn't turn on. Rear wiper doesn't spray fluid. The book value is only like $2000 at this point so is really worth pouring more and more money into the same old problems. No more Blazers for me!

I have had all of the above problems with my 2000 LS Blazer. Bought the vehicle new. Talked to Chevrolet several times and was basically told the vehicle was my problem. Well that was true, but since then I have bought a 2006 Mustang and a 2008 Scion. I had never owned anything but General Motor vehicles and I am 54. They lost a life long customer over the Blazer problems and never wanting to fix any of the problems. Ford has really been great with the Mustang. Scion is basically new so no problems there yet. Own five vehicles at this time, so GM has lost a good customer. I hope it was worth it to them to not care about the problems I had with the Blazer. I also tell everyone who will listen about the way I was treated and I tell them how well Ford has treated me. The tongue is mightier than the sword!

Wow I wish I had read all these posts before my husband and I bought our 2000 Blazer back in 2004. I am having the same problems as most of the above:

Fuel gauge won't work (goes to full when tank is full but never goes below half tank even if it's empty)

Both recline handles are broke.

Pin and bushing need replaced on driver door.

Window motor had to be replaced on driver door.

Transmission pan gasket had to be replaced 3 times.

Radiator cap gets corroded often.

Transmission is acting funny (rpms go up way too high when I'm first taking off and no I don't slam the gas :)

And worst of all gas mileage sucks! I get 13-14 mpg.

I bought a 2000 Blazer 4x4 for my son. Boy he loved it... Word of warning though... they flip very easy and the roof support is not great... He had it 6 months and flipped it on the interstate, flipped 2 times and the roof did not hold up, broke his neck and killed him, he was 24. I do know the roof support is not very good in them (found that out too late though), but want everyone to know to drive very careful in them since there is so many of these reported cases out there. Please slow down, turn with care and be careful!

I have a 2001 Blazer. I have 140,000 thousand miles on it. The mileage is very good 19 city and 25 hwy. I have had to replace the tires and brakes at appropriate intervals, but have had no other problems. I work for a local government agency that purchased 75 of these vehicles. After speaking with the mechanics who work on these vehicles, they convinced me it would be a good purchase.

I really have no complaints. I have owned many vehicles over the years and would consider the Blazer average in that group.

2000 Blazer LS Bought in May, 2004

Windy, then leaky driver's door.

Electric windows would stop working - dealer said it was my imagination - but finally replaced one motor.

Passenger recline handle - right after warranty was up.

Mirror doors on driver's side broke off right after warranty was up, the other mirror door just broke off. Keep the CD holder on it so the light doesn't stay on.

Gas gauge went right after the problem with the high sulfur fuel - I was buying gas at the same station that wasn't on the list - but the gauge ticks like a geiger counter - I use the trip odometer.

Heater core went and we had it replaced. 80K then the smell of antifreeze would not go away. The heater core was on its way to being plugged again - completely flushed out dex cool and now use prestone.

Rear winder defroster wire broke off - 40K would have to replace the back window to fix it.

Replaced the alternator twice, 0 first time right out of warranty.

Got the bouncy, shimmy thing going down the road.

We replaced brakes and rotors - twice within a few months - had the alignment recently checked - no abnormal tire wear.

Second set of tires - still in decent shape.

The plastic trim around rear windows pitted, while still under warranty. Service considered it abuse - ???

Except for the old people who backed into me at work, the body is holding up well.

Sure, I am disappointed that things that I would not think of breaking, are broken. The Blazer has always been well maintained. GM is way too proud of their replacement parts - $350.00 for a lighted sun visor, wanted me to replace the entire passenger seat and rear window.

GM has always had characteristic flaws, either from design or from the plants that supplied the component. Sadly, they do not consider it a problem, even when hearing the same complaints. But then, the US has lost its way when it comes to consumer satisfaction.
