1989 Bedford Rascal L from UK and Ireland - Comments

Hyundai coupe pre 1989 wheels fit 3mm spacers on front 5mm on back. sets the little rascal off a treat. measurment of stud centres is 114mm.keep on rascalin.

Great wee vans. I'm on my second one, got for free as part of a deal for another car! Can't keep plug nipples tight in it, feels like a head gasket gone til you tighten them again, but that's about the only problem. I can't believe the bloke before who rolled one at 95mph, mine is ready to throw valves out at 60mph, maybe he was looking at kilometres! I can even sleep quite well in the back and I'm 6ft4!!

I love my wee van so much I just bought my daughter one too. I use mine for getting to the hills camping out have kitted it out myself with couch loo etc and it is the best party bus ever and everyone notices you and it is great on single track roads and steep mountain passes it just chugs along Long live Benny the Bus!

I too use mine for camping! stuggles abit on winnets pass in the peaks its steep tho lol. did 3 1000 mile round trips to scotand last year at 75mph all the way and no problems, am a mechanic so it gets looked after. don't want to change it, love it so much.

A great little van, this was my first vehicle and I still have it 6 years on, have owned cars aswell but the rascal is soo much fun!!! I also use it for camping, had a laugh a few months ago as my mates all got stuck on this steep mud track, but the rascal slowly plodded on, as they always do. drove to liverpool a little while ago, was great, about 55-60 all the way, it will do 75, but needs a braver man than me, overtaking lorries... no chance, you get level with it then nothing, my dad has the old diahatsu which has a 600cc two pot engine, I thought mine was slow...

All in all a great van, just be realistic, the design didn't change, it didn't need to it does what it says on the tin. a benefit also is that its easy to work on, cam belt, clutch, new bushes and ball joints are so easy because they are so small, its refreshing after working on big vehicles.

I let my mate drive it who has a 325, the first sight of rain and he puts the back out, he now understands why I drive so slow in the wet!!
