I have had my 2000 Chevy Cavalier Coupe since August of '04 and I LOVE IT! I have had a couple of issues with it, but all in all it has been a great car.

The first problem I have had was the clutch. Argh... That was a pain, but it was fixed when I had saved up the money. I think that the "kid" that owned the car before me (There are a few after market things installed in the car and there is evidence that an amp was taken out from the back.) He/She may have ridden the car pretty rough. The mechanic said that the clutch was SHOT.

The last problem that I had with the car was not too big of a problem. It was not starting without being jumped. The dash lights kept coming on especially the brake, ABS, and Check Engine lights. My gas, temp, tachometer, and speedometer would also (not always, but every now and again) go all the way down to zero then back up to normal when I was driving. That was scary. So I took it to my local dealer (where I had bought the car and the extended warranty) and they diagnosed it to be the alternator. It was covered under that extended warranty (YEAH!) and they replaced it on the same day. While driving home the battery light was coming on while in speeds above 50mph. I thought that perhaps this was normal with it being a new alternator and all so I called the dealership and they asked me to bring it in as it is never normal for the battery light to come on. So I brought it back and it turns out that when the clutch was replaced the mechanic had failed to reconnect a ground wire and that had drained the battery making the alternator work much harder to keep the battery running. If you have any electrical problems have the mechanic check this out.

All in all I love my car and have had no problem with my dealership. Guess I found one of the good ones!

I bought a 2003 Cavalier and from day 1 nothing, but problems! I have had this car in the shop 24 times in a year and a half with all different problems. The speedometer, brakes, lights, trunk latch, drive shaft. Now my trac off light comes on along with the ABS light and service light also the right side of the car is making a clunking noise and the steering feels funny. The transmission shifts hard and feels like it slips sometimes. My warranty is up and I wonder how in the world I can keep up with the problems of this car. I have called the dealership and gmac and got no where. Any advice? Does anyone else have these problems?

Has anyone had any problems with rain collecting inside the door panel of their Cavaliers? I have a 2000 Cavalier and I could hear water splashing around inside the drivers side door for several miles this morning after we had a huge rainstorm last night. Any suggestions on where it could be leaking in? Please email me at rsedlock@hotmail.com with any comments.

I brought a 2000 Cavalier. The most recent problem I've had with the car involves the computer system. In North Carolina car must pass an omissions test. In order to take the test, the car computer system must communicate with the inspection computer system. Unfortunately, my computer is no longer speaking to the other computer. And it is not only my Cavalier, it seems there have been a number of Cavaliers having the same problem.

I took it back to the dealer, but because my warranty is up, he won't look at it without cash up front. There is no other dealer in Wilson, NC. I also told him what other mechanics are saying about the Cavalier. He did not seem surprise at all. So now, I have to pay for a very expensive computer service.

Well, I consider myself to be a bit of an expert on Cavaliers... I am 25 years old and I have had 3 different cars in my life, all of them being Cavaliers!

When I turned 16 I had a '92 Cavalier, when I graduated high school I got a '96 Cavalier, and last year I bought my first car for myself and it was a 2004 Cavalier. The first 2 were used, and I drove the wheels off of those cars to at least 150k+ miles each. I didn't take proper care of them and they didn't get very good maintenance... and endured the basic abuse that most teens/college kids can put on a car. I thought they were great! They never gave me any major problems aside form the normal wear and tear of a car.. I thought I was very lucky because all of my friends cars kept breaking down left and right while the Cavys just kept on rollin'! Both of those cars were in great running condition and had plenty left in them when they left me.

The only really funny thing that ever happened with any of my Cavys was the first one I had, it must have gotten some wires crossed somewhere because for a period of time the turning of the steering wheel was controlling the radio volume! Has this ever happened to anyone else? No one believes me about this unless they saw it themselves.

Anyway, I love Cavys, and I will drive my '04 for a while. I would reccommend them to anyone. While I'm not doubting the problems that you all have had with your Cavaliers I find it hard to believe because I have had so much success with them under worse than usual driving and maintenance conditions. The only bad thing about Cavaliers is their ridiculously rapid value depreciation rate and lack of options.

My husband & I recently purchased a 2000 cavalier. it has 74,000 miles on it. the problem we are experiencing is the car acts like it is miss-firing or possibly wants to stall out. it doesn't happen right away while driving, it shows up about 10 miles into the driving time. it is like a "bucking" jolt. it hesitates when taking off from a stopped position. plugs, wires, coil pack, & computer have all been replaced, but the problem remains. the car has been hooked up to the computer system, but shows no diagnostic problems. if anyone has any suggestions as to what this problem is, please e-mail me at walczakjr@aol.com

thanks!

I recently bought a 2002 Cavalier cause I needed something cheap on gas as I am going back to college, and I must say I have no problem what so ever with a Chevy vehicle of any kind. Especially after working for Ford for the last 3 and a half years as a mechanic. I have had no problem out of my car so far except a new set of front brakes and a popping noise in the dash on a very hot day which I am not really worried about. But after working on cars for a living I have learned something that most people should realize and that is no matter what vehicle it is sometime or another someone out there is going to have a problem with their car. Vehicles are not bullet proof people, they all need a little TLC once in a while so take care of your investment and it will last a while I promise, even with a few dollars here and there with odd and end things and always test drive before you buy, and a Carfax report form the dealer won't hurt either.

My husband and I were going to buy a 2000 Chevy Cavalier with a 2.2. It has 74,213 miles on it. Beautiful car, but just like a post a few back... a few minutes into driving it starts to jerk, and bolt forward like. It started out like a flutter and then it gets worse. The car has had a tune-up, both coil packs have been replaced, gas has been drained and new put in. We cannot figure out the problem. We really want to buy this car, but as of this moment we are having second thoughts. If you know anything that will help us please email us at sweetrain27@hotmail.com thank you!

I have a 2000 Chevy Cavalier, and I just started having a problem with it recently. I love my car and I don't want to get rid of it, but it's costing me money. I will be driving down the road and it will shut off. At first, I'll be able to start it up again, but the longer I drive it the the longer I have to wait to start it back up. I took it in, and they told me I had to fix the map sensor, cam sensor, and the crank sensor. They fixed that and it still has the same problem. I took the car back in and they said there was nothing they could find wrong with it and even test drove it, and there were no problems. I picked it up and about a mile down the road, the car did the same thing. I don't know if I'm going crazy or not, but I know there is still a problem with it. I need help and I need it fast. Any suggestions would be great. I love my car, but right now I don't think it loves me back. Help, please.

The cavalier that is doing what was described as jolting forward what it is doing is actually misfiring could be be as simple as a spark plug, plug wires or possibly the throttle position sensor or a fuel injector an actual misfire will set a code for this car (it should) and tell you what cylinder is misfiring.. while the car is running <b> put on a pair of thick gloves and one by one take off the plug wires which ever one does not change the way the car runs is your problem cylinder change the plug and try swapping fuel injectors with a different cylinder to see if the problem follows the injector if it does there is your problem, but like I said before if it is indeed misfiring it should set a code (engine light will come on) hope this helps good luck.

I have a '02 Cavalier and bought it new. I had to replace the slave cylinder after about 20,000 miles. I replaced the oxygen sensor right after the warranty ran out. My air conditioning "purs" like there is something loose. I had to have my hood painted, and I wax my car twice a year. I was very fortunate to take the advice of a mechanic when I changed my rotors the first time to buy lifetime warranty rotors. My car has 112k miles on it and I am on my 7th pair of rotors. I do live in the mountains though. I do regular maintenance and feel I take great care of my car. Now I have to fix my reverse lights, they have stopped working. They did not stop suddenly though. They would occasionally not work until they just stopped working at all. I am pretty sure I will try a different brand the next time I buy a car. I will say my car gets great gas mileage and goes really great in the snow.
