I just got a 1999 Chevy Venture LS only about 6 days ago. I drove it home from where I bought it, and it started chugging on the interstate.

The "quirks" that I have noticed that are quite similar to everybody else on here; the airbag light stays on, the wipers are all messed up (they stay open when on delay), the service engine soon lights comes on and off, and the fuel gauge goes crazy so I filled it and been watching my mileage.

Oh, the automatic sliding door closes then opens back up, so I stand there trying to get it closed about 5 to 10 times.

It shimmies when I slow down; the alignment is off.

Just today while driving to work, it started hard shifting and whining. Took it to a tranny shop, showed a code, guy said most likely it will have to be overhauled.

Oh, another thing, when I turn into a parking spot and try to turn the steering wheel back, it's REALLY hard to turn. I called the dealer today and I'm getting my money back. This is ridiculous!

I bought a used Chevy Venture a few months ago. It's a 2000. It's a nice van let me tell you. built in car seats, roof racks, the cd player in it's really nice. I haven't had any problems with it. it runs like a beauty. Its has a 120,000 miles on it and she's still is going. I haven't needed any serious work on it. when I first got and drove off the lot about half way home my service engine light came on.. the guy fixed it. Then it happended agian... well this time I fixed it. There was a Loose plug under the hood it just needed to be put back on.

The only thing that doesn't work in my car, is on the driver side, the unlock button doesn't work. The lock does, but not the unlock.

Other than that I think it's a nice safe and good vechile.

I own a 2000 Venture van. It is by far the biggest piece of "sh*t" I have ever owned. I have had to tackle all of the afore-mentioned problems, and now it sways really badly when I have to drive the family somewhere. I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER GM PRODUCT AGAIN!!! They should be ashamed of putting this product into the market.

I purchased my 2000 Chevy Venture Warner Brothers edition back in Oct of 2007... I really did love my van at first... it is very roomy and comfortable... it had 150, 000 miles when I got it... the first week or so was great, then trouble started.

First the audio video module went out... then my rear defogger quit working...

My service engine soon light came on...

The idiot reminder sounds for the gas and seatbelt no longer work...

The airbag light stays on...

The CD player quit working...

My lights flicker...

The van as far as the comfort is great... but the electricals scare me.

I have a Chevy Van 1999, I have trouble with the transmission, also my idiot lights keep coming on, I really don't know when something is wrong.

Does anyone have a problem with the paint coming off on the hood, there isn't any rust just metal.

My tail lights, directional lights and headlights are all messed up. The directional lights both come on at the same time, parking lights work when they want, head light go out and we have replaced the bulbs.

The side door works when it wants to and so on.

I do the like the van, but with all the problems I will never buy one again...

I have of course had many of the same problems with my 2000 Venture LS.

With power windows not working, the copper contacts in the switch on the drivers door build up black deposits that keep it from getting a good contact. It pops right out, and with careful cleaning can be easily fixed.

With the windows going up crooked and not sealing, I put some white lithium grease in the track and it works for about a week, then I spray some more.

As far as the transmission goes,I am on my third tranny and torque converter, 2nd valve body, and about to go back again. The code it has been giving is "TCC stuck open". I guess I'll try to figure out what that is, but I definitely think it is electrical. Save your money on a new tranny, the diagnosis is always to get a new one. I bought one with a lifetime warranty, so the only reason I know about that code is the guy is tired of seeing that P.O.S.

Good luck everyone.

I also own a 2001 Venture van. I now have 100k's on it, and like overnight without warning, the transmission started whining, and the next day it would make a clunking sound every time it shifted. By reading other comments, I guess I might need a new trans...

Also had to replace the head gasket at 40ks; a common problem with GM engines according to the dealer mechanic...

Come on GM, can't you get it right??? You think I'll buy another GM product again... guess again...

Also the rear strap hatch door handle broke, molding falling off over the sliding doors, back seat broken... A/C leaking.

I take good care of my things, and it's not because of neglect, this is all poor quality workmanship.

I have a 2003 Venture, and it also displays some of the issues mentioned here -- erratic power door, transmission engages with a thunk when the van comes to an almost (California) stop. If the car is allowed to fully stop, it's fine, but forget to baby it, and the thunk into first appears. I've been advised that this is the shift solenoid. Ironically, it seems to act better when I tow a small trailer. I just want the thing to last long enough for me to pay it off and get rid of it. I've always liked Chevy's and usually run any car I have until at least 175K -- this one hasn't yet 100K. I don't think it will make it. Too bad, it's not a bad car otherwise. For the record, I had to replace the transmission on my Honda Odyssey -- that cost almost 4500 dollars. At least this transmission can be purchased rebuilt for about 1300...

Don't let the thunk fool you. I own a 2000 Venture and experience this at about 90,000 miles. Had the transmission replaced for over $2,000 and the thunk now is intermittent at 130,000 miles. Here we go again. In addition the fuel gauge isn't working, the rear wiper motor is shot, and we have had the door rubber on the passenger side replaced 4 times. Battery? Replaced 3 times.

We purchased a 2000 Chevy Venture from a dealership 07/2007. When we first received it, we complained about the lights flickering. They said it was a bolt on the alternator and it seemed to be fine, for a few days. Since we received it we complained 7 times in the 90 days of our warranty and after that they flat out refused to do anything more to fix it.

They did tell us that the problems with the electrical system we were having, was that the electrical harness needed to be replaced. After reading these posts, I see that we have 90% of the same problems as everyone else. But no one has stated they have had to replace the electrical harness. Could this be the problem after all?

Oh, and our battery moves every time we turn a corner to the point before we go to start the van, we have to open the hood and push the battery to the left and back all the way or it will not start. And no, it isn't a connection problem. Already had that checked 4 times.

Now they are saying we have a seal problem too. Electrical is $900 to fix. I have no idea how much the seals will be. We are a low income family and this is our only vehicle. I don't have a clue as to how we will get it fixed. Any idea's, email me at Robbzillag35@aol.com

Our 2000 venture LT has been good to us. We had to replace the head gasket, as GM used antifreeze that ate the factory gasket away. Other than that, at 168,000 miles, I can't complain, except for one issue. Most Ventures I have seen are rusting out under the rocker panels on both sides. This is a manufacturing defect and GM should do like Toyota did and pay to have this repaired. There should be a class action against GM on this issue.
