PLEASE HELP 1995 OLDS AURORA TRACTION LIGHT COMES ON AND STAYS ON ANY IDEAS ALSO WILL SOMETIMES GO INTO REVERSE OR DRIVE FINE THEN OTHER TIMES HITS VERY HARD ANY HELP WOULD BE GREAT njoeandjen@comcast.net.
Okay guys and gals, I've read your comments and wonder if the 95 and 96 aurora's were the problem. Did not read much about the 97 overheating or other problems and nothing about the 98 or 99. I heard the 99 came with an OBD II computer. I know what that means for cadilac in that it is self diagnosing and have used it many times in cadillacs. But don't know how to in my aurora. I have a 95 I purchased for parts which took a frontal crash. Motor I was planning on putting in the 96 my kid over heated. Funny thing is that when I drove it never had a problem overheating, but when he drove it, it overheated. I think he drove it hard and fast, in fact I know he did. I sold my 97 with 130k on it, no problems with that car. My 99 has new plugs and wires put on it and if I remember seeing the bill it was for somewhere near 199$ not the $500 I hear others talking about, and yes a hired mechanic did the work. I do most of my own repairs so that makes a big difference. In fact I was going to tackle the motor switch this weekend. I have done some before where I drop the motor, tranny, struts, axles, with tires, subframe out the bottom and lift the car over the top. Not sure how long it will take me, but was hoping less than 20 hours. Just unsure if I need to change subframes or not and if I do how much added work that will be til I do it. I did a new 01 aurora like this, a 96 corsica with a 3.1 from a 97 grand am, and just had the TCC solenoid out of my daughters corsica, 3.1. Decided to change struts, banana rails, control arms, wheel brngs, while I had the tranny apart as well as the car needing them. Would have changed axles, but the tranny shafts are dif. however if I had changed trannies the 96 into a 92 would work if I change the axles as well. Enough of that and back to the 95 into the 96 aurora. I heard the 95 will not switch, and I am wondering if it is the same kind of thing. If I use the tranny and everything else if it will fit into the 96? Can't use the subframe as I mentioned and will need a radiator. Anyone have one? I will have parts for sale from this 95 which can be sought after at zebra_1@hotmail.com. I also have some parts for an 01 aurora. thanks for reading..
One more thing, I think after reading what I have I would stay away from the 95 in particular and maybe the 96 although I have both.. I know there are changes from the 95 to 96 and changes again in the 97 because work I entail deals with seeking interchange in a parts manual.
I have a 96 aurora. had it for 3 1/2 years. it has 119000 miles. about to sell and buy 01. I need a dash for the 96. if you have one around louisiana. or wanna buy email me. kmt56822@yahoo.com.
I have a 96 Aurora with 205,000 miles. The chirping noise started 150,000 miles ago. I thought it was a brake squealing device to alert me of the need for brake maintenance. After replacing the serpentine belt four times, belt tensioners twice, radiator, alternator, compressor, and water pump, the chirping continues and is now much louder. It starts chirping after it warms up. It's so loud, it can be heard all the way down the road. Does anyone have a solution to this problem? It's been a great car, but the chirping drives us crazy.
I have a 96 Aurora, and had it for 3 years. I drive hard and fast, and the engine has yet to fail me.
I can't however say that about all the other components of the car.
I have replaced the water pump, radiator, struts, rotors, fuel lines, power steering pump, steering rack and pin x2, both bearings x2, and a partridge in a pear tree.
I took a small road trip and since then I have had the low oil pressure warning come across the computer. Through the computer, you can watch the oil pressure go up and down. The oil pressure is only low when I am at a red light or a stop sign, but when I put the car in park, the oil pressure goes back up. I thought it might be a computer problem until one day I started the car and heard this weird grinding sound. I cut the car off and restarted it. The sound stopped, but the computer read check charge system. I popped the hood and noticed the belt was still intact but very loose. I think that the wheel that pumps the oil somehow broke off and that is why the belt has no tension. I am not a car guy, so if this explanation makes since to anyone, please let me know so I can tell if the car is worth fixing AGAIN. my email address is BUTTAEXPRESS@GMAIL.COM
I had a 96 Aurora. I love it till the end. The only problem was my SES would come on and never go off. So I took it to the dealer, he said I need a trans speed control sensor (1800) including LABOR! So I never got it fixed. It ran great for seven years and 198000 miles with very little other problems. I only traded it because it needed struts, and they cost more than the car was worth.. I loved mine.
I just brought a 96 Aurora; at 80000 miles the gas gauge stopped working.
900 dollars to fix controls to A/C heater.
Info center stopped working, 1861 to fix.
This car is a nightmare.
I have a `96 Olds and I HATE IT!!! In two weeks we replaced the starter ($175), then the battery ($150), and then the alternator ($180); it's JUNK!! And with gas being 3.99 here, it really sucks! I would love to push my car off a bridge and watch it explode, that would be the best day of my life. This car is not worth my trouble, nor the money I have put into this junker. I would suggest to anyone NEVER BUY THIS CRAP CAR!!
In '99 I bought my 96 Aurora with 32,000 miles. used. Since then I've replaced: water pump, suspension, ignition, repaired oil leaks (1,000 +) radiator leaks points/plugs, etc.
Practically rebuilt the car from the miscellaneous parts it needs to function.
The biggest threat was the mysterious oil leak, which unfortunately was from the cracked block, which needed to be pulled. It was repairable, and because I do extensive freeway driving in Southern California and Arizona, it has run fairly decently and has great pick-up.
I do have problems with the brain from time to time, but it eventually clears up.
The biggest annoyance now is the CD player. It eats my CDs and spits them out at random. The CD player had been working fine; however, in the last 2 to 3 years it decided not to work.
It now has 105,000+ miles, and I guess I will squeeze everything I can out of it. It may be schizophrenic in function, but safe and reliable when maintained. I am going to hate to replace it.
