Posted above, made a mistake the fuel was too lean not too rich.
Have new spark plugs, new Fuel filter, O2 sensors are OK. Mass airflow sensor is next; praying that is it now.
I had similar problems, almost identical actually. My 2001 Pathfinder LE which I just bought had the engine light on. I also had no power over 4000 RPM's. They did a massive tune-up replacing all plugs, air & fuel filter, as well as a fuel pump. They also determined that my MAF sensor had to be replaced. All this for $1600.00. Guess what! My "Service engine soon" light is back on. My SUV runs and feels perfect to me. I am not taking it back to a mechanic for them to tell me that I need to spend $1000.00 dollars to turn a light off on my dash. Maybe they can take the 0.50 cent bulb out from behind the dash for me instead.
These internal computers they have now have to be so finely set that any little waiver outside of normal sends the "light" on. It's just a ploy for Nissan to get more money out of you. This guy isn't doing it.
I have a 2001 Pathfinder that I bought used two years ago. I have not had any problems with the check engine light yet. The vehicle has 98,000 miles. The cd changer is gone. My windows are crazy slow in the winter time. My clock went out six months ago. My shift lock started giving me problems this week. The vehicle recently started driving sluggish on steep grades. The transmission checked OK, but I can't go over 65 mph up a steep grade. I drives fine otherwise. It seems to be using more fuel lately! Have not made up my mind if I am going to keep it or move on to a car based SUV such as the Murano.
My 2001 Pathfinder LE is exhibiting the 1320 code now and the dealer wants to replace the ignition coils. Problem started when I had him change all the spark plugs because it's over 100k miles.
I've been reading on the Internet about changing the coils myself and am ready to try it. I want to do cylinder # 2 first because that indicates the misfire. However, I don't know which one is #2! Can anyone help me out?
And don't even get me started on the O2 sensors. I had them replaced a couple of years ago. Then last month the CE light came on again. This time the dealer reprogrammed the PCM, and now he says the sensors are gone again!
I'm the original owner of a 2001 Pathfinder Le. Had the CD player repaired the first year. Had the oxygen sensors replaced the third year. I've learned to live with the SES light, since it can be on any given moment. I have over 90000 miles, and the engine is misfiring. I've had enough headaches and will never buy another nissan vehicle.
I've owned my 1999.5 Pathfinder LE for 7.5 years. It has 130K miles on it and generally speaking, it's been very reliable and void of any major repairs with the exception of oxygen sensors, slow windows, digital clock fades in/out. Recently noticed oil drops on the garage floor and learned my Pathfinder is in the early stage of needing a head gasket... has anyone had this work done? If so, what did/does it cost? I've heard unofficially between $1400-$1800 for the repair. I really like my Pathfinder but perhaps I'm hanging onto it longer than I should. What do you think. I would consider buying the last model year-2004 Pathfinder as a replacement. Let me know your thoughts, thanks!
No offense to all you Nissan fans but I have driven over 1.5 million miles in many vehicles and have never been so frustrated by a vehicle or manufacturer. Nissan will not own up to any of these problems, and they are many. I have had Jeeps, Toyota's, Chevy's and others and never had to deal with such nonsense. They should be ashamed of themselves.
Yes my Chevy's had problems but not consistent known problems that were not addressed. My newer Jeeps have had problems but Chrysler took ownership of the problems and fixed them, sometimes even when I had over 200k on the vehicle. I have two Jeeps no and a troubled Pathfinder. The Cherokee has over 240k and has become my reliable backup for all the times the Nissan is getting fixed. The Grand limited is my wifes and has nearly twice the mileage of the Pathfinder and none of the problems. No constant service engine light, no slow windows, perfectly working stereo. Every year we need to get an inspection I have to spend money to get the light off. A week later it comes back on. Personally I will NEVER buy another Nissan or ever recommend one. JUNK JUNK JUNK JUNK JUNK JUNK JUNK JUNK JUNK JUNK!!!
I just found this forum and am amazed at the similar troubles everyone is having with the 2001 Nissan Pathfinder. My vehicle has 123,000 miles on it, and I bought it from a dealership at 55k. I did not have any major issues except the CD player was broken and the windows had the same problems as previously mentioned.
However, just this month, the vehicle began idling rough while in gear. Then, the SES light came on and I took it to a dealership and had the number 1 cylinder, spark plug, and coil replaced as recommended. Four days later, the SES light came on again and the truck was still idling rough. The mechanics replaced the number 1 cylinder fuel injector. The truck is still idling rough while in gear at a stop. However, it runs fine while cruising and while in Park or Neutral at a stop. Has anyone else experienced this problem? Does anyone have any recommendations? I am beginning to lose faith in what the mechanics at the dealership tell me. The car is currently sitting in the shop, and I am waiting for another diagnosis.
I own 2001 Pathfinder, bought it used, it's been 2 years now, problems with CD player is normal, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.
Check engine light just went on, and now the car runs weird, shaking when it stops and you can't go as fast as usual on the highway. Took it to garage, it's error 1320, they can't pin point the ignition coil that is causing this.
Having read the reviews here, I can see some people did change all 6 coils and problem remained so not very promising... and a new head ache started just in time for the summer season!
Same problems as everyone else - 2001 Pathfinder 69k - had it 3 years - just replaced a coil and engine light right back - I'm resetting the light on my way back to the dealer I bought it from to trade it in - i could barely handle the engine light problems when it was under an extended warranty and free.
WATCH out though, Nissan dealer sold us an extended warranty, but check your paperwork CLOSELY to make sure the warranty doesn't start as of the original sale date, not the date you buy it used - we paid for a warranty for time periods BEFORE we owned the car - what a rip-off!
Hi, everyone. My 2001 pathfinder LE has 2 problems- poor gas mileage (Full tank $70 will get me 120 miles in the city), and check engine sign. Every time the mechanic reads the computer about check engine, different problems show all the time. What is a 1st problem with the very poor gas mileage?
I am the original owner of a 2001 Nissan Pathfinder LE: It currently has 96K miles, has had the CD changer fixed (my dealer only charged $350 and not the much higher prices quoted above), and is now giving the 1320 code problem regarding the ignition coils. I have a scanner so I turned off the code, it seems to be running fine, but I expect it to come back soon. Am ordering the Haynes repair manual so I can replace the coils -- hope it aint too hard but will give it a shot. Nissan is the shame of Japan it would seem based upon these known but uncorrected problems. Why don't they do something about these coils that routinely go bad??? I have a 1997 BMW 328i with 119K miles that (other than needing a radiator) has run like a Swiss watch. Nissan has lots to learn from BMW in my experience.
Bought 01 Pathy used 70k, 1 month later the SES light comes on, dealer said right cat bad. Changed right cat, light comes on. Long story short, changed all sensors and the light is still on. Took it to the dealer; now they are saying left cat. Also the CD player went out, and the right passenger window is getting slower.
Just brought my 01 Pathfinder in again, check engine light, needed left cat $900.00 part, ignition coil pack $800.00 part and have trace a slight evap leak somewhere. Fortunately the cat warranty was extended to 8 and 80,000.00. I was told by the techs not to go after market on the coil pack, they routinely fail.
I replaced the Mass Air Flow Sensor, myself, $300.00 for the Bosch part aftermarket, 15 minutes of labor without the proper tools. Nissan quoted me over $800.00 to do the Mass Air Flow Sensor.
I had them lube the window tracks, solved the problem completely.
Mine is a 2001 Pathfinder SE with 100,500 miles. Had slow windows from year 3. Changed battery twice in last 3 years. "Service Engine Soon" light has been on for a year now. Took it to the local dealer and they gave a $700 quote to replace sensors, which I declined. Have had poor acceleration and pinging for last 6 months. Someone suggested I put premium fuel, and that has helped get rid of the pinging, and acceleration has also improved a little. I had had Hondas before that did 80k miles without the slightest problem, so Nissan does put Japan to shame. I will never drive a Nissan again, unless I get it for free. Their quality sucks big time.
