i too own a 1994 GMC Jimmy, and have had problems with the EGR, fuel pump, and the CPI, I also had a period where the thing would run for a while, but then it wouldn't start back up for at least 2 hours (that was a bad distributor by the way) and now I'm having problems with it sticking wide open when I hit the passing gear (talk about scary, considering the bad brake design on these trucks) can someone help me on figuring out why? I shut the jimmy off then restart it and it idles back down... weird huh?
'94 S15 Jimmy 4.3L VinW here.
Had stalling, poor fuel economy etc. with this Jimmy since I got it.
EGR = carbon clogged
Fuel injection = leaking into the upper intake
lower intake ports = carbon clogged.
FIX: replaced the Central Port Fuel Injector ($225), replaced the feul lines ($50), cleaned clogged lower intake (carb cleaner + wire brush scrubbing), cleaned upper intake ports (same), replaced lower intake gasket ($25 including gray goop), replaced upper intake gasket ($12 no goop)
This took a bit of time as I had to learn the engine (Haynes manual works fine) and I went slow.
But as long as you are careful, note where every bolt and nut goes, and replace everything carefully, this can be done by the hobby mechanic.
NOTE: search eBay or yahoo stores for best on-line prices. Dealerships charge TWICE as much. Caveat Emptor...
Hello I own a 1994 S10 blazer. It has 241950 miles on it. So far I have replaced the egr valve twice, the cpi once, the fuel regulator twice, the map sencor once, the O2 sencor once. to take care of the EGR valve problem run only 93 octane fuel after about 2 weeks you will stop having carbon build up in the valve when replacing the CPI make sure the hoses are not touching anything. I cut small hoses and put on them to keep them from rubbing anything. Now I'm having a problem when I stop at a stop light or sign my blazer does not want to run right when I get up to speed it runs fine. I have checked everything I know and cannot find problem. does anyone know anything to try.
I have a 91 S10 with 4.3 liter 6
It has always with the exception of when it was purchased new idled very rough and got poor gas mileage
if the rough idle and poor gas mileage really bother you I recommend you put some premium gas in it and drive it floored for a few miles
if you regularly have a lead foot it will run great
I don't really care to spend the time or money battling the cause of the problem and choose to accept it as a part of the vehicles design
I have not maintained the vehicle as recommended except Lube oil and filter every 3k miles or so
I had spark plugs replaced at 150k for no good reason and every once in a while I put a new air filter in for the fun of it
The heater fan went out after about 12 years
couple years later I let the water pump blow after driving it with a noisy bearing for about a year
replaced it myself for $15 dollars in a parking lot
this was the only time the antifreeze was replaced
after that I found that I had accidentally loosened the tranmission fluid line the goes into the radiator
so it sprayed transmission fluid everywhere
tighned the line and added fluid problem solved
only time new transmission fluid was ever added / replaced
I admit it did consume about 2 gallons of antifreeze within 2 years, but the goo that remains from the leak seems to have plugged the hole it was leaking from so as long as it is not cleaned it will not leak anymore
it's at about 200,000 miles now and I have seen plenty of 4.3 s run over 300,000 if you can deal with the poor gas mileage and rough idle
I expect to drive it with little maintnence (until the seat falls through the floor)
I have a 1994 jimmy can aNY ONE TELL me what is this popping noise i`m hearing when I only make a left turn only email at mac1976@sbcglobal.net.
1994 jimmy sle runs fine the on any given day the spark plus would be wet with gas can anyone help mac1976@sbcglobal.net.

Last poster: Sounds like your CPI injector unit is going bad, pretty common on the Vortec engines at some point. A job for a pretty good mechanic or a serious shadetree mech.
Also, on the EGR problems - when you remove and clean the valve, with the valve off start the engine for a few seconds. It will rev up some and make noise, but the exhaust will blow out any loose carbon in the EGR passages. This will extend the cleaning interval quite a bit, usually.
I have a 93 GMC jimmy and the poor idle is driving me crazy! I replaced the fuel filter, egr, fuel spider with regulator, new intake gasket, O2 sensor, distributor, cap and rotor, new spark plugs, and spark plug wires. We also checked the whole system with a snap-on data computer and everything looks OK, and still the piece of sh@t idles like crap. The truck has a strong odor like its running rich, but the system looks fine. It's symptoms point towards the egr, but its brand new, and been clogged TWICE since I bought it. This is only about 3 weeks since I replaced it. I've had it with truck. Not to mention the common loose front end and steering that is very common.
I gave American vehicles a shot and these are my results. I NEVER had a problem with my Toyota!
Have a 94 s10 blazer v6 getting a lot of gas smell and like a mile a gallon with rough idle or acts like running on 5 cylinders
I just had cap, rotor, plugs replaced
Injector spider is about 2 years old, can it go bad again
we have the lousy gas here and wonder if its the problem
anything I can check with tearing the whole intake out first?
Thanks.
The EGR valve is a known problem.

Where is the egr value for 93 jimmy 4.3l?
I have a '97 GMC Sierra with the 4.3L. It stumbles so bad when you:
A. Accelerate from a stand still slowly.
B. Try to drive it a cruising speed.
This problem is really starting to drain me, I have already had to replace the cat and muffler because the inside of the cat blew out and clogged the muffler.
My mechanic can't figure it out, and tells me that if the EGR valve was the cause, there would be a code saying so, but the only code is for Random Misfire.
Will a malfunctioning EGR valve always throw an engine code?
If your Blazer has rough idle and you can smell gas, there is a feeder tube located in the intake plenum. It is clear plastic hose, they develop hairline cracks and leak. Replacing it should fix the problem.
I have a'94 Blazer 4.3 W engine that I have owned for 8 years. It has been a very reliable vehicle for me with the usual maintenance items replaced along the way. I have removed the EGR valve and cleaned out the little carbon pieces about 8 times over the years. As suggested, clean around both holes in the intake & start the engine briefly before you replace the valve to blow out loose pieces. That really helps. Mine always started very well... up until a month ago. IT would crank forever before it started and had a rough idle and terrible smell from the exhaust pipe. It turned out to be the fuel supply line under the intake plenum that supply gas to the CFI/injector assy. was cracked and spaying fuel inside the plenum. The new fuel line nut kit was about $85 at the dealer only. While the plenum is off, clean out the exhaust holes that feed the EGR valve. Starting & running great again. I hope some of this info is helpful.
I own a 1993 GMC TYPHOON with an idle problem, it hunts between 700-750 with light surges causing the engine to shake. We have checked everything logical such as injectors, grounds, coil, wires, plugs, fuel pressure, fuel filter, throttle position sensor, intake leaks, vacuum leaks, changed oxygen sensor, no luck as of yet. Would appreciate any help or ideas (may have missed listing a few we checked). The engine does not stall, smell of gas or have any weird smells from the exhaust, and has it's usual great power in regular driving situations. The gas mileage has been very poor since, about 10-12 miles per gallon. No codes have appeared (wish they did). Thanks for any help.
