I Have a 95 geo prizm lsi 1.8. It has 280,000 miles, but still hangs pretty well with a lot of the newer cars out there. I've had a couple of things done to the engine like light weight racing crank pulley, spark plug wires, headers, cold air intake, racing slicks, custom 2.5 inch exhaust, coil-overs. Now the car handles like a real performance car, one time I raced an audi a3 on the freeway doing about a 110mph was a close race though. I'm planning to bulid a turbo version of my engine for about 300hp. I'll swap out the auto tranny first though.
I love my 1994 Prizm Lsi. I purchased mine almost 6 years ago, with 47,000 miles, for $2500. I now have 106,000 miles. This car is from Michigan and has driven to both coasts: Boston and Los Angeles. Aside from regular maintenance and tires, I have only had to replace the alternator, at just over 100,000. I also put on new belts at about 85,000. One was a bit worn and squeeky, so I replaced them all at once. My only complaint is the lack of power when I've done mountain driving. Otherwise, I plan to keep this car as long as possible. It's a great car!
Purchased 94 Prizm new. Standard Shift, 238,600 miles, averages 35 to 40 MPG. Replaced starter, generator, cv joint, rear shocks & a/c condenser. Burns little oil. Drive 76 miles round trip daily to work and home. I have never been able to bring myself to replace it.
I have a 94 Geo Prizm and it's my first car. It's been passed down through the family with about 98000 miles on it.
It definitely does not look as good as it drives,
except when you really get going; at about 80 MPH it starts to overdrive a little.
I bought a new 1994 Geo Prizm w/a manual transmission. I replaced the alternator at about 75,000-80,000 miles. I've replaced the starter twice with several years in between. The starter had a life time warranty so it only cost $90 in labor for the 2nd one. The dash vent slats broke and fell into the car and blocked the defrost knob. Easy fix. I have never replaced any of the brakes and I have them checked regularly. At 110,000 miles, the battery light started to randomly blink. I'm in the process of trying to figure it out. Overall, besides oil changes, air filters, new tires: I LOVE this car. I love how it handles and I will keep this car for as long as it makes economic sense.
Today (5/29/08), I purchased a '94 Prism, auto with 158,000 miles on it for $3,400. Bought for gas mileage to "run around" town with, since gasoline cost have risen to nearly $4.00 per gallon. Only had 2 owners of record. Hope it proves to be as reliable as most of the listed on here.
I have a 1994 Geo Prizm. I got the car in 2007 for $500 with 236000 miles on it. Now it has 278,000 miles on it.
This car has been the most reliable car ever thanks to Toyota building it. I would never get rid of this car. I bought it just to have, but I drive it more often than my other cars, which are much newer and nicer.
