I inheirited my 1979 Lincoln Mark 5 from my grandfather. I grew up washing and waxing the car and learned how to drive with it. I've been using it as a daily driver for 3 yrs now. The gas is hurtful, but it's worth it to some extent. I put $7000 into it last month for a restoration, but wasn't to happy with the turn out. Is it possible to get this car to 14mpg city and handle better than the original? I was thinking stiffer shocks? If anyone knows let me know. Take care Lincoln drivers!

I just inherited mine.. i love it, but it needs a complete muffler overhaul, and I am not too excited as to what the MPG will be for me... oh well, the price I pay for beauty!

Expect to get about 10-12 mpg city and 15-17mpg highway... assuming the car is properly tuned and you don't drive too fast!

Hello. I'm buying a big 79 Lincoln Continental. (probably the most comfortable car ever?) and it's been sitting for a while, about 5 years? And I'm installing new plugs, and air filter. I think I should buy a new gas tank and such. But does it need a engine flush? It won't start. It acts like it's going to, but ends up eating the battery. So I'm getting a new battery and plugs, and going from there? Or should I try to get the engine flushed ASAP?

Help?

Hi, I also inherited a '79 Lincoln Continental (Town Car)...Was your car garage-kept? Fortunately, mine was :) Yes, you should get a coolant flush! Change the oil and transmission fluid as well. Hopefully the body is in good shape! My car has rust on the bottom of the rear doors and a hole in the trunk-lid...The rest of the car is solid!!!
