My dealer wants to replace my front converter for 750 after they have replaced the exhaust and one of the coils.

Does this sound right? I am already in for 1,000 and now they want to charge another 750,

I have a 2000 Nissan Maxima SE and experienced many of the problems listed above. I have 88K on mine and about 3 weeks ago my SES, Slip, and Battery Lights all went on so my vehicle would not pass inspection. A diagnostic test indicated that an ignition coil was misfiring, but would not identify which one??? my mechanic (X-mechanic) said all 6 needed to be replaced at $100 per coil + Labor. I looked into it and found them for $49 each (rock auto) and replaced them myself. The lights went off and the vehicle ran well for 1 day. I tried to start it and nothing, but clicking. I took the battery to the shop that I purchased it from (8 months ago) for a test and they said it had a bad cell - they gave me a new one and when replaced, the car ran great! THEN, a few days later it would not start again -- I replaced the alternator and now the vehicle starts and runs well, but the battery light is still on so the vehicle won't pass inspection - I have disconnected the neg over night, but the light is still on - any thoughts?

I have a 2000 Maxima SE. Since the weather has gotten colder my car is running very rough. It is almost like it is bogged down by something until the engine gets warmed up. After that it runs fine. Also when I start it it, it sounds like I've turn the key while the engine is already running. Is this normal? If anyone has any suggestions on how to fix these problems please post a comment. Thanks for the help.

I have Maxima 2000 GLE and sometimes SES light on. I was very worried at the first time and went to dealer about 3000 miles. The local dealer said everything was fine and it was fine for a very long time (about 80K, I only did 30k 60k services at dealer besides regular oil change, Nissan original tires were very bad and I doubt my local dealer never did tire rotation at any service at all). Recently the SES light was on. I found it was useful to share this information. 1. Check air filter. the most time I got SES light on was due to air filter needed to be replaced. After doing it, the best way to turn off SES light is to disconnect negative battery for overnight. 2. Check the gas cap. So far that's all the reasons I got from my Maxima.

My son has a 1999 Nissa Maxima which has developed a problem when trying to fill the gas tank. It will only allow about 1-1 1/2 gals. in before it kicks the pump off. The tank was also hissing like it was pressurized. He replaced the charcoal filter canister as well as the solenoid which vents to the canister and the pressurizing problem seems to have gone away, but he still can't get gas to pump into the tank. All the vent tubes have been blown and are clear. Any suggestions or has anyone else had this happen??

I have a most unusual problem. My 1999 Nissan Maxima with a 5 speed manual transmission has 132,000 miles on it. For the most part it has run quite well except for the occasional Check Engine Light.

There has been a lot of rain in the central Ohio area recently, and my problem is that the car won't turn over or even mutter a sound from the starter when the ignition switch is engaged.

The battery is brand NEW, however, NO lights come on and no clicking is evident when I attempt a start.

To get it home, I had it jumped with the old battery in place, and barely made the homeward trip. The new battery doesn't even allow a dome light; so I am not even sure whether it's the alternator, a blown fuse, a dead switch, an over-worn ignition key, or a dead short (which seems unlikely).

Any thoughts?

Normally you can, as long is not a mechanical failure that may block the exhaust. Of course that the check engine light will remain open. But I expect either to loose some power or to have an increased fuel consumption. If the check engine flashes it is a different story. You need to service the car right away. Good luck.

I also have a 2000 Maxima 140,000 miles. At around 4K RPM the car looses any performance this is going on flat surface or up hills. At low speeds and around town the problem is tollerable. I took to local mechanic they ran extensive (6 hours worth) of diagnostics. They finally quit with no resolution only suggestions of re-flashing or replacing CPU or changing the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS). In their estimation the problem is electrical/sensor-related. Has anyone else been given this diagnosis? Did it work??/

As far as O2 sensor the best advice I can give is to ignore it. My car also has the rattles on the right front side that I also ignore!

I had a similar problem that you have. My Maxima 2000 would drive fine around town, but as soon as I accelerated at higher speeds, my car would lose all power. After having my car in the shop for 3 weeks, I finally had the Mass Air Flow unit replaced. That solved the problem.

I've also had 2 ignition coils replaced over the last 2 years, and my engine light has just come on again.

I went to auto zone, and this was the code reads: P0430 (The PCM Has determined that the catalyst system efficiency for bank 2 is below threshold for the current engine oprerating conditions. (Bank 1 identifies the location of cylider #1, while bank 2 identifies the cylinders on the oppsite bank)

I want know which catalyst is bad, the front one or the rear one

why this happen? did I did something wrong to the car?

Is P0430 bank 2 the front or rear catalyst converter?

I have 2000 Maxima GLE with 99,000 miles and paid the $400 for the 100,000 mile service after the engine light came on. 2 days later the light is on again. I take it back and they said all 6 coils need to be replaced at around $800. The only bad one they found was coil 6. Should I just get that one fixed since they put in all new spark plugs with the 100,000 service? Thanks.

PS - Should I take it to a place like Autozone just to make sure they werent lying? This is a dealership we're talking about. Thanks.

My daughter just purchased her first car, a 2000 Maxima GLE with 175,000 miles. It runs and shifts fine w/o any warning lights. At any speed if you nail the throttle it bogs and won't accelerate. If you ease off the throttle it will get to a point that it will pick up and go. This problem only happens when you get on it hard and you can hold it to the floor and it never picks up RPM. (stays around 4000 and bogs there) Mass Air Flow Sensor, Catalytic Converters, Throttle Position... If the engine service light doesn't come it will there be any error code to read?
