Aloha... I bought my 2003 Liberty Renegade new in 03. It currently has 46000 miles on it (all in Hawaii). Overall, I have to say that I love this little Jeep. I'm 6'4" and 250#, and have made do with it just fine (just make sure the car seat is behind my seat).
Some notes on other comments:
I too have the squeaking noted by the original commentor. It is not the serpentine belt or the steering. It is a grating/squeaking sound, and is definitely the rear brakes/axle/differential. I have not figured out the problem, or why it is intermittent. The dealer mechanics just say that others have had the same complaint, and it's just a noise. However, I recently went hand over hand over the entire Jeep with a non-dealer mechanic, and we found that the left rear tire lifted slightly in the axle housing. It was barely noticeable, but he stated that my axle bearings may be bad, or going bad, and may be causing the noise.
My biggest complaint is the gas mileage, but I think I've recently figured out why. Driving this Jeep for the last 5 years, I have an average of 13.4 mpg. That sucks. Only recently I talked with someone about troubleshooting possible reasons. The most promising idea (and it makes sense since it's a Chrysler transmission) is that the torque converter is not converting/linking 100%. The mechanic I talked to (not a dealer mechanic) recommends that I get a new torque converter and try that. If that doesn't change it, then consider a transmission rebuild.
I bought a 2003 Jeep Liberty Sport 4x4 in September of '07. It has 63,000miles on it. I have noticed that there is squeaking coming from the front and rear tires when I go over bumps/speed bumps, no matter what speed I am traveling at. I don't know how long shocks/struts last but from talking with the mechanic at the dealer I was advised to get them replaced. Any thoughts? Otherwise this vehicle is great, I love them! I don't like the new 2008 body style but it might grow on me...
On a steep incline, stopped, in forward facing uphill (or in reverse facing downhill), without applying brakes or throttle...'03 Liberty will coast as if it is in neutral.
56,000 miles on 3.7 V-6. Seems to shift fine on highway. Poor gas mileage...12-15 mpg.
Anyone else experience this? Dealer says nothing wrong.
