My car does this, but it is only when the car is hot. Has anyone else had this problem? It works in the morning or when I park it in the shade.

I have the exact same problem with my 2002 Grand Am. One thing I have noticed is that it will not start in the direct sunlight when it is very hot, but if I park it in the shade... works everytime. I had my fuel pump replaced and I'm going to get the ignition tumbler replaced next week. Sure hope it works...

By the way, I also get that stupid clicking noise that sounds like the turn signal. I love this car!

I've had this problem on my 02 Grand Am Se as well. I've had it towed twice in the last year and it started up both times after the mechanic did the computer reset. Now that I know about the 10-15 min reset, I'll try this next time (at least until I can afford the $500 ignition replacement. It only has happened after a rain while it is still very humid.

I just had the same thing happen. My mecanic told me to turn the key to the on position wait 10-15 minutes and then it will start up. I asked if this could happen again. He said he han't seen the same person come back a second time. Well guess what?? Yes it happened again and now that I see from this web-site I am not the only one, why can't there be a recall for these cars?

Yeah this just happened to my girlfriends 2004 grand am. What a piece of junk. GM really sucks at making cars that last and are worth the money. What gives with the turn signal sound every time I turn the wheel. I thought this car had problems because of an accident, but after reading everyones problems I know this car was a piece of crap from the day it was built. Thanks GM for another lemon!!!

Does anyone know whats the problem. I have a 2000 pontiac grand am and recently my security light came on. Its happened to me a couple times where the light flashes on and the car will crank, but won't start. then after 10 minutes it starts. Anyone know what needs to be replaced?

I am having the same problem with the security light randomly coming on while I am driving the highway in my 2002 Grand Am, however I don't have remote or key-less entry. I just use a regular key. I have noticed a problem with the ignition tumbler as well, and am going to replace it. Are they tied together or is there another issue here I need to address as well? Thanks!

My 2002 Grand AM SE just had to have the fuel pump replaced as well after it decided to just stop working one day. Thought I was out of gas, put gas in and it still didn't work. Now I'm just hoping that I won't have to get the other parts replaced as well. Thanks GM.

I bought a Pontiac Grand AM GT about a year ago, and I noticed the security light came on randomly, and then when I shut the car off and restarted it, it was gone. So I never thought anything more about it, (because it never did anything). Then one day, I attempted to start my car and it wouldn't start, but the radio came on and the lights and heater, too. So I called a tow truck and had it towed to a garage. They told me it was my starter and replaced it; then I got a call back from the garage telling me they had replaced the starter, but the car still didn't start. However, they insisted that I still needed the new starter. So it went to the dealership, and they reset the computer, and guess what? It starts now. But I no longer have a Command Start (so there went $550.00 spent on the new starter, which I don't believe I needed.) But I'm a young girl so I thought maybe they were right.

So now (it has been) 2 months since that incident; my security light has been coming on again, so I thought; "Well, the same thing can't happen again because they told me it won't happen again, and the reason is because of the Command Start (that I no longer have)."

I work away from home and commute in my car, and now that I'm at work, my car decided not to start last night. That is why I'm on here, and I see the 10 minute wait thing. Is that what my car needs? Because I was going to call a garage and take (the car) in, but if that is what I should do, then I will try that tonight. I just thought I would share my experience with a Grand AM GT 2002.

I was on here yesterday talking about my grand am gt, and I was wondering if the 10 minute wait thing actually works.. So I attempted it last night.. and sure enough it worked.

Thanks to this site, I didn't have to get my car towed again.

I just hope it doesn't happen again.

I had a 97 grand am GT with similar problems, and it was covered by a recall. The security system was messing up because the ignition switch got hotter than tolerance a few too many times. It would only start if I let it cool down first because a failing switch disallows all fuel pump function. My ignition switch was replaced -BUT- the (time tested) solution to the overheating was a "relay" installed under my hood to relieve the ignition switch's woes and let it run cool enough that it wouldn't melt anymore. Please don't get your fuel pump replaced until you've checked that out lol.

My problem is, when I wait til the 10 minutes to start the car, it drains my battery. I have to get a boost to start the car. GM should pay for this, THIS IS A DEFECT and SHOULD be PAID FOR!!!

I am making a complaint to GM!

1999 grand am key won't turn and can't start the car, if I had read this forum I'd be driving another brand of car, If you want someone else for a recall or lawsuit count me in. My car is a rock that sits in my driveway right now, so much for reliable transportation. Get this I can start it with my remote start, but since the turn won't turn in the ignition I can't shift it out of park!!! Yes I'm warm, but the ten minute fix doesn't work for me I can sit here till I run out of gas.

If you hear of a fix let me know, slime@delta.edu.

I have a 2002 grand an and I hade the same thing happen to me so I went to work and talked to them and they said that I triped the sucrity and it has to do with the key even if you do not have key less entry its the chip in your key that does it and to fix it all you do is turn your key on to just where you are going to start it just do not start it and leave it for about 45 min to am hour and it will reset and then you can start it my has worked ever sences hope it works for you.
