I own a PP V6 Dec 2005,the best part from all notice the gear box had jerking problem, had inform EON on this issue along the warranty period and wat, they did was just tie up here n there to ensure the car don't jerk any more, after two days out of service notice the car jerk again. Called up their Customer Service and was told to sent it to Glenmarie service centre there again the experts looks into the problem and after two days it happen again, inform them again about this problem, but they were quiet about it and soon came my car km of 15,000 and still no news... latter received one letter from them stating, they won't be responsible if the km have reach 15,000.

Pay high for no standard car... How to support our malaysian, car like that... buy at high price and sad part to say don't enjoy it at all...

I bought a used Perdana V6 2001 on April this year. Everything was OK (even though the pickup and performance was not to my expectation since many times been overtaken by 1.6 Gen2) until a month ago the so called national best car started to jerk and sometimes the transmission stuck from P position. Today the gearbox is 50/50 half dead half alive. Fortunately I managed to bring the car home from the hectic KL. Can somebody suggest me what where who to find to repair this thing.

Emmm.. I have used my ppv6 for almost 3 years.. this is what I found out.. for the fuel consumption try to use the SAFC latest version if possible.. I also used one.. result yap fuel show some improvement...

For the gearbox I suggest the manual changeover.. with this solved problem of the gearbox and loss power.. feel the V6 power at your hand now.. your V6 can even challenge the turbo and even V-tec.. of course with good tuning.. forget about so called fuel savers and bla..bla..bla..try it.. you won't believe it.

I understand that the gear box cost about 6K to change once it is after warranty. Have a friend whose gear box just jammed up while he was on the highway and it cost him 6k to get it fixed.

How many other cars do you know of that have gear box problems especially if they are new cars.

I'm a non-malaysian living in Malaysia, and I disagree with some comments about Perdana Protop V6.so I'm explaining the reasons. the problems occure with the gear box is mostly drivers fault. driver is supposed to use the OD in the speed between 0-50 untill the gear is in 3rd.after this speed the OD shall be off. and anytime driver needs to pick up, has to turn on the OD again and turn it off when the speed increasement is 0 and the car goes back to a normal situation. if you think the car has not a heavy pick up, i suggest to change your air filter to a quiet sporty one, then you will see the differences. the reason that most of the people complain about gearbox is true. unfortunately Proton once was going to transfer the technology of Mitsubishi Gallant, made a big mistake. this mistake is that the Gallant had a radiator on it's gearbox, but Perdana, does not have. i still do not know the reason, why Proton has done such mistake, but it can be solved by installing the radiator on the gearbox plus it's not expensive either. it will reduce the gearbox oil temperature so it won't shake the car like when it's getting hot. some have said the car is taken by other weaker cars, and I respectfully disagree. with these changes it'll be alright. plus the maintenance is lower than any other imported cars. so better to be satisfied with the car you bought. and I shall say that V6 gives one of the best feelings to you while driving compared to other cars in the same class, like Camry.

I was a Perhana V6 (year 2001 model) owner for the last 7 years and I am NOT a Proton people or its representative whatsoever.

I totally disagreed with almost all of the comments except the last one where the writer put up a very constructive and most reasonable explaination to the so call "problem" faced by the V6 owner. It is very clear, the people writing out there are simply ANTI-PROTON and/or ANTI- NATIONAL CARS. They are here at their very best try to "destroy" PROTON simply because they viewed that our government policy is to make foreign cars (Honda, Toyota, BMW, Merc etc) so expensive so that they could NOT even afford to own them and therefore they are basically out of reach of their dream car!! So, they will continue to critise and make unjust judgements of their very own version without proper technical data or facts to support their statements.

No doubt there are some technical problem with the car, but this is only a minor defect which could be solved eventually and it totally did not deserve such an unreasonable and unjust comments.

To all the writer, I know your motive behind such a BAD and negative comments on V6. Again, it is very simple, you DO NOT have to buy a Proton car if you are not happy with the brand!! Leave it alone and the world would be much better and healthier without your attack and negative comments!! Just get your FOREIGN CAR only if you can afford one!! The country is protecting the whole Proton brand and no doubt it will continue to do so just to protect the car industry like what other nations are doing to their own national car project.

And never expect to get a car without manufacturing defect or with quality of a BMW or Merc at a price for Perdana V6!! Everyone is aware that even a new BMW or Merc has some minor hiccup / defect at time of delivery and why the owner just keep quiet or did not voice out to the attention of the public on the problem?? It is because the owner is ashamed of the problem with their branded car after paying for such a high price which should come with good quality afterall!!

So, people wake up!! If you are not happy with the nation's policy on the automotive industry, you may even consider leaving this country NOW!!! OK?

What a harsh word. I prefer approach psychologically.

I have Perdana V6 2nd hand and no problem because of the previous owner know how to take care of it. Some more service history book provided.

It is a good car with minor defects over the years.

I'm not an owner of the Perdana yet, but now I'm looking. Chanced upon this site, when I was googling up for more information on the Perdana (especially maintenance).

Have heard of the gearbox problem. Then again, am still going ahead with my purchase.

I feel the comments given are not anti-national cars OR anti-proton. All consumers have their rights to give their fair opinion. I think I understand how one would feel, when receiving 3rd class after-sales service treatment with a 100k purchase.

There just isn't anywhere to turn to. If you write to the management, no actions will be taken because the management is also half-past six. So, then where do these customers turn to?

On the other hand, I must say all models will have their strengths and weaknesses.

Regardless, all owners must adopt the habit of maintaining their car, just as much as they would on their health. As anything ages, higher maintenance would be wise.

P.s. most settle with Perdana because it's a cheaper car and by any means, not all Malaysians are rich. Only a handful are.

Hi, I am a person that loves machines. In the Perdana V6 I have 2 of them. Actually the Proton cars are very good if the user respects the car. I once drove a Waja at a speed of 190km in the highway from JB to KL, and the water was raining just a drizzle. I encounter 4 accidents in 4 different locations, and all 4 cars are mrc, and I was driving a Waja, and nothing happened to me from JB to KL. It's how you treat the car and how you handle it.

My Waja wasn't even serviced for 1 year, and it can still outrun a BMW.

For the Perdana, the problem is in the gear box. Everyone who knows about car knows to change the gear box to a high performance one, or if you don't have the money, use the method on the previous person's comment.

And the Perdana is very comfortable. They are built for comfort not for speed, so if you want your Perdana gear box to be good, don't drive like a possessed person. Treat your Perdana with respect and it will respect you back.

I bought a 2nd hand 2000 Perdana V6 around January this year. So far no serious problems have occurred. Only one that gives me a really jerk off feeling; it vibrates every time there's an instant brake. I wonder if it happens to any other car, as no comments were made about this problem. Any explanation on this?

The mile reading is 234023; I wonder if I should get the timing belt changed, & I worry about the gear box after so many complaints, since no past service record is available. What should I do now to prevent anything happening? I start to worry because soon the car will have to make a 300km journey to Cameron Highland.

I think my Perdana V6 is not so bad. For RM 100k, where else can you find V6 engine at this price. If you take good care, of course it will last longer. My old Peugeot needs repair almost every 2 months; gear problem, air conditioning, overheating, smoke. But I proud my V6 can last more than a year without repair. I hope they will improve the engine for the new model for less fuel consumption.

I read all comments about PPV6 which is for me very interesting. I bought V6 last week and it is used car. I met the owner and seems that the owner took a good care to the car. When I read all bad comments about PPV6 especially the gearbox, I feel hesitate if I have wrongly bought the car. This is my first car and I know nothing about cars. Hopefully all bad comments is not right.

My Perdana V6 is already 4 years old with 118,000 km.

I started to notice a bigger problem with the gearbox last week - it just didn't change from low to high gear as what it was supposed to do under normal driving using the 'D', in fact it seemed stuck at the 3rd gear all the way!

The smaller problem is still there - the car not moving after shifting to the 'D' (couple of times).

Anyone has any idea on how to address the above problems? Perhaps installing 'ATF cooler' might help, as some people claim on other websites?
