I sorta agree with the people that say you need to know how to drive a high power V8.

You can't go trashing is from new because instead of wearing the engine in, your just gonna wear it out...

But also you don't wanna drive it like an old woman! The engine is a V8, its no made to live its life putting around at 60kmph or accelerating from 0 to 60 over a 5 minute period because it will never have a chance to run on its preferred rpm!

It's a V8 people, stretch its legs once in a while, if not... why bother getting an engine with 250 + kw???

Get a six...

Hey, My dad Purchased a Series 2 VX SS brand new, when he got it he got the pisten slap problem, he went to hes mates holden dealership and he had a brand new vy SS donk put in, it wasn't a old donk fixed up, but a brand new one right out of the box, Since he got that done the car has had no problems at all, it's a absolute dream car to drive, He had a Remus Racing system installed, SS induction System, Pace maker extracters, Bigger Air box, no restriction air pipe, GTS Dif installed, and LS1 Edit done, the car is over 300kw. Now tire wise and brake pad wise, the car has still got origanal tires with 50% tred and original brake pads with still plenty of meat on them. the car has done over 60,000 and still drives like new and looks brand new too. The main reason you people are having problems in my opinion is that you are thrashing you car, In response to The Ladie with her SS, If your only getting 30,000 out of your tires your driving like a race car driver, I take the corners nice and easy, and at traffic lights I make sure not to jump off the line, If you don't take care of your car your sure as hell not taking care of your wallet!, We do open up the beast on the highway, and give it a good go, but in suburbs all its really doing is destroying your pride and joy, Treat your car as you would want someone else too,

Holden Lover, Melbourne.

The problem with Holden cars are their owners and devoted fans. From reading all the comments here, most of you cannot accept that the original reviewers car was a heap of crap. Instead you talk about your own car and how it's had no problems.

It's this attitude which Holden love as it allows them the opportunity to continue churning out trash cars with the knowledge that 99% of the owners and fans won't complain. And if they do, it's NEVER HOLDEN'S FAULT.

The reason Hyundai build better cars than Holden nowadays is because:

1) They started off making crap cars;

2) Owners and jouronos let them know;

3) Hyundai listened;

4) Hyundai improved their quality control. Look at the JD power surveys for the Sonata.

How long have Holden been building cars? And they still can't get it right...

Cut the denial, admit Holden churn out crap, they might take notice and start building better quality cars.

I have just purchased a series 1 ss vx at 80/000 k 1 owner and am thrilled to bits with it addmitedly it is the most expensive car I have ever owned and the first v8 I have had, but it is an amazing car to drive very responsive I have had to `learn` how to drive it you really need to feed it to it especialy when your revs have dropped in suburban driving situations don't let the noise make you back off the 350 will love you for it and give it a blast once a week awsome.

I have just recently purchased a 2002 VX SS series II Gen III 5.7L with 220,000 ks on it and I am the second owner, it is the best car I have ever owned. I have had it for about one month and it drives and handles very well, plenty of punch too. Even though it's done 220,000 ks it's still going strong and doesn't blow any smoke. I am very happy with it:)

I have just purchased a vx ss series 1 and its not too bad for a holden most of my cars have been fords or 4*4's the gen 3 seems pretty good to me plenty of grunt 6 speed box is smooth clean inside and out not bad at all keep ya oil and filter clean. regular changes and don't constantly belt the hell out of it and you should be right.

All cars cost you dollars believe me I spent 5000 bucks on a trans and 3500 on the head on my 80 series landcruiser last year and all the 4*4 tools I listen to when I was bying it all said the bloody things were bullet proof.

And if a mechanic ever tells you gas is for bbq's listen to him it will save you a fortune down the track.

I have owned a Series II VX for 7 months now, the car is the business; it's standard apart from the remmis exhaust system and K+N filter, it's got 210kw at the rear wheels with a lot of torque.

I can honestly say I give my car a lot of crap, I have owned Skylines, older Falcons, Subarus, Nissans, and nothing compares, this car can take a lot of abuse, no problems apart from a cracked radiator tank (car has 160000km on the clock), no piston slap on the service history, no oil consumption, no nothing, just tyres :)

Anyone who disses the LS1 is wrong. It's a great engine with a lot of room for getting power out of it.
