I too own a Nissan Sentra 2001 GXE which has been nothing, but a headache - at 45,000 km the brakes were gone. I kept blowing headlights because of a short in the wiring that the dealer agreed to replace any more of them for free. I have had the Engine Light on constantly and two Catalytic Converters - one at 80,000 km and one at 152,000 km. Also had two engine coils, the engine pulley, both O2 sensors, an air flow meter all replaced, and the wiring harness is completely corroded so I never know what will burn out next. In fairness to the dealer, they have done what they can with a crappy car and done a lot of stuff for free that they did not have to. It sure doesn't make me like the car any better!

Most of everyones comments are in connection with recalls. For example the check engines light is the result of a faulty soldering on a sensor. Do your homework and look up all the recalls on this car.

Did anyone ever get there horn fixed? If yes, what was the repair?

We also own a 2001 Nissan Sentra GXE. We had the first one at the dealership back in March 2000. The car is now 7 years old and has a mere 134,000 km on the clock, but used every day. We had initial problems which were all covered under warranty (not a problem!!) and of course there were a few recalls which were a little frustrating.

We have just got that same problem with the Horn not working. I have checked that the Horn works and the fuse and wiring. What is this "Spiral Cord" broken all about???

We are generally very happy with the car, it is smooth and quiet and serves its purpose well.

You can get problems with any vehicle,no matter what price you pay for it, don't forget including BMW & Mercedes, but they cost more to repair!!!

I've had a good experience so far with my 2001 Nissan Sentra GXE. The "Service Engine" light came on a few years back, but turned off on it's own months later.

On the highway with the cruise control on at 65-ish mph I've gone alittle over 400 miles on one tank of gas (one tank equals about 12 gallons of gas).

At 73,000 miles the factory CD player doesn't play CDs any more, and the keyless lock can be stubborn.

I'm going to need new rotors soon, but after 6 years and 73,000 miles I'm not disgruntled over that. If I buy quality replacement parts I shouldn't need to address that part of the car for a while.

After reading some of the problems others have encountered though I'm preparing for some repairs down the road I'm sure. But I think that's true of any car.

I also have a 2001 Sentra GXE. Everything stated in the above comments has happened to my car as well. I'm at 108K miles.

The Horn doesn't work, but it's made me a better person.

Check engine light has come off and on for a year or so - PO420 codes: replaced the Mass Air Flow Sensor and light went away. PLEASE DON"T PAY SOMEONE TO DO THIS FOR YOU - IT'S FOUR BOLTS AND A QUICK DISCONNECT. I had a quote for $800 and I did it myself for $150 and it took 10 minutes, tops. Anyway, the engine light is back on and O2 sensors may not be the problem as indicated by the onboard computer. It may in fact be the catalytic converter - $600-$800 range.

Belts squeak, headlights are fogged over on the inside due to leaking housing, cd players both don't work, and I replace my headlight lamps every couple of months. It still gets me a to b, but it is annoying. Also, I am still getting about 28 mpg - not too bad for a car with the check engine light on.

I have a 2001 Sentra SE 5spd. I have 60,000 miles on it and not too much has gone wrong. I've just changed the oil and put gas in it. After 6 1/2 years the horn and alarm stopped working. The parking brake light stays on too. Runs great, though. I would really like my horn to work. I hope it's not too expensive to fix. Anyone have any luck with that?

While my horn does work, I've had bigger fish to fry. My headgasket blew b/c a dealership did not put coolant back into my car after doing a coolant flush. I had to get my rad/rotors fixed too and just recently, my engine cut out at a stop light. I was able to jump my car and it worked for one day but it would keep cutting out and I can start again. I didn't take it out for a couple of days and now it won't start even with jump. Does anybody have this problem or know what is wrong? I've spent $3000 on this lemon and I don't think I want to spend anymore. I would never ever buy a nissan ever again.

2001 Nissan GXE

Purchased the car used from the dealer.

The car was constantly going to the dealer for warranty repair.

During warranty.

Bad harness connections

Bad alternator

Misc OBDII light codes

Dip stick breaks.

After warranty.

2 ignition spark coils bad

Rear catalytic converter bad

Solenoid for park disengage.

I am disappointed with Nissan; they used to be reliable cars.
