I have a laguna 11 on a 51 plate, and it has been nothing but an electronic pain.

It drives fine and it is comfy, but has cost huge amounts as it is continuously having electrical faults: tyre sensors, dash display, sun roof, windows, interior lights, key cards.

Do not make the mistake of thinking they are value for money. You will spend more than you saved on a more expensive brand in the first year, plus the dealers don't know how to repair the problems that crop up.

Just bought (from Renault dealer) a '02 Laguna 1.6 Authentique - 160,000 miles up on the clock - one owner from new (who I also knew) - lovely car - drives like a dream - and a bargain price - incld 6 month bumper to bumper warranty "on everything"...

I have the Laguna 2 Prestige T on an 52 plate. I have owned this since 2004 and had very little problem, certanly none of the type sensor problems of above.

Now at the 54,000 service I have various problems; the headlight washer replacement around the £130 mark, which I will try and fix myself first. Also, water in the boot switch. it's a 5 minute job easy to do yourself.

I've also had no errors with the ECU; the only thing is the turbo stutters and cuts in and out a bit at the 3000 rpm mark.

I used to have an old Laguna 1 which was great and gave no problems in the 8 years I had it, so I bought a II, and haven't liked it at all, although I haven't had many problems, but couldn't recomend the car.

Great - a chance to moan. I found this site whilst Googling my car's latest problems.

I bought a 2001 Laguna 1.8 3 and a half years ago. It had done 17k miles and was three years old.

My first warning sign was the odometer resetting itself on the way home.

First was an air bag warning light - faulty wiring in the steering loom: approx £150.

Next I scraped the bottom of the car on a rock. Unbeknownst to me this moved the undertray, breaking the power steering pipe, causing the steering to fail completely (not just get heavy) a few miles further down a mountain road. Very lucky not to have a serious accident. Approx £400 inc. tow.

Two consecutive years I needed front and rear suspension replacement to get the car through its MOT. Average MOT bill for three years was £275.

Handbrake caliper has seized twice - £150 per go to fix.

Brake caliper failed destroying the disks. Note that a brake disk is normally approx £20. Laguna are approx £70 as they include the wheel bearing and ABS ring. Why? To save time on the production line.

Currently have a problem with the throttle not doing anything and the engine revving at 3000rpm. It will be fixed tomorrow, and no doubt will bankrupt me again.

Average repair (and I mean repair - not maintenance) has been nearly £800 per year. This car is a total and complete unmitigated daisaster. Please do not even think of buying one. I keep thinking "well that must be it now - I've replaced everything" but quelle surprise. Looking for a Mondeo now.

Tyre pressure warning lights come on at least once every trip. Windows work only in cold weather. Car sometimes won't start for no apparent reason, but usually will eventually. Door closing sensors don't work so no warning when lights are left on. Key card can be removed from slot with engine running (if you time it right) so the car will run with no key!

Its only saving graces are that it is reasonably economical, big, comfortable and the engine is powerful and smooth. But don't let that fool you.

It gets 5 stars for safety, but I wouldn't trust the airbags to go off in the same week as me having an accident.

I bought an 2.0 IDE intiale on a '02 reg 4 months ago, and I have to say it is a fantastic car. Apart from a misfire on idle, it's fine when the revs are raised above 1500rpm, but at idle the car seems to rock. Do you have any ideas?

I have a Renault Expression 1.6 Petrol on a 51 Plate same rough idle problem. Renault Main Dealer reprogrammed the ECU with the latest software, cleaned the throttle body and replaced plugs + original Denso coils with the new Brown Top Valeo ones. All fine now apart from a £450 bill.

Clutch is a bit juddery after just 38K miles though - anyone any ideas on that one, which does not involve buying a new clutch?!!!

Just bought an 01 18 Dynamic estate.

Only the drivers door opens on the key card, the boot will only open when the key card is in the ignition.

Anybody got any ideas as to why? Or how this can be rectified.

Cheers John.

Renault key card - to open all doors you must 'double click' the button. It is a safety feature for dark nights so that you are only opening your door and not all of them when you are on your own.

Incidentally, Renault Laguna 2 IDE 2.0L engine keeps cutting out - engine management light, loss of power. but then seems to be OK after leaving for 45mins or so. Car will only do about 20 minutes of driving before it happens again!
