Hey guys I just bought a Honda legend 88 model... the car is great, but I am disapointed with the leather seats, especially the drivers one. I also have a problem with the anti lock braking system, the light comes on whenever it wants to, along with the parking brake light.
I just spent a lot of money on my sound system and I am running two 12" subs and a 15" sub now there is no more room in the boot: (
i was looking for a exhaust system for the legend, but can't seem to find anything on the Internet. can someone please help me with this? I even typed in Acura since the legend was an imported car.
I must admit I didn't expect this car to be good. since it is my first, but the name LEGEND does suit it well, although it was close to $60 000 aus! brand new.
Hi every one.
I'm thinking of buying a new Honda legend from a bloke who is a few blocks down from me. he has had the car sitting on the side of the road for about a year due to a blown engine. the paint is in good nick, but the interior is worn out. would there be any problems with it been parked there for so long? if so, how much would it be worth (asked price $1000 Aus) and how much will it cost to repair.
Hey, I just bought myself a Honda Legend for my first car.
I find it very comfortable to drive, and it runs very smoothly, but there are some down sides to the car such as the engine management light and ABL light comes on frequently, and me and my dad can't seem to understand why? He did find that the ABL light had a loose wire, but it still happened after he fixed it.
You will also find that when the brake fluid is over filled, the light may come on as well.
Also there is a rattling coming from the engine. This sound fades as the car warms up, and comes back at certain times, so we have replaced the oil filter and oil change.
The paint is still in very good condition, but the leather interior has to be replaced, but for the time being covers will do.
I find that the speedo is very sensitive and wobbles as you drive over bumps.
The exhaust has cracked on one pipe, so this gives me the chance to replace them :)
It seems to be quiet fuel efficient.
All and all, the Honda Legend is a great car. It's a good investment and it will be a delight to restore it and get it back to prime condition.
By the way, they look gangsta with the long doors; they're massive ;)
It would be great if anyone knows anything about the rattling, and how to either reduce it or stop it?
Thanks
Eve.
I just bought myself a honda legend 1988 model, fearly used one from a friend, But, the problem iam having with the car is that, the car gear selector is not picking well. How do I get it done because I really enjoy the car balance and perfect speed control. thank you EZEKIEL, FCT NIGERIA.You can send the reply through my e-mail Adress ezmanga@yahoo.co.
Hi allihave recently baught a 1988 Honda leend rom amate. 100 bucks greate deal. I also found a new auto gearboxfor it which was the only thing realy wrongwith it $200.
Pretty damn lucky considering the quote was $3000.
I fixed the leather cracks by going to bristol paint taking the head rest for acoulor match. they've got special leather paint. looks like new. for the engine rattling chek the exhaust is tightened and empty. brake light keeps coming on check that the nob on the topside of the brake pad is still there which presses in the button to activate the lights. they seemto easilycome off. if electric window stops working the rachet part may have just slidout. they do that a lot. all in all awsomecar

I just bought a Honda Legend for my sister. I like this website, how everyone puts their story here. I've owned an 85 3rd generation accord for the last 3 years, given to me from my grandmother, which she owned since I was a baby. It's running really well, I've taken it from 200'000km to 322'000km, giving it regular oil changes, trans oil changes and everything and I've just been so in love with it, Honda's just go for ever if you look after them. So I decided to get my sister a Honda and after test driving this '89 Legend, we loved it.
I'm just wondering what kind of things are typically problems with Legends? I noticed a lot of people say their engine lights come on and there are problems with the braking system. My legend has an imported motor cause someone left changing the timing belt for too long and ruined the original (which was up to 300'000km).. but for some reason the engine light comes on after a bit of driving and won't turn off. The mechanic has done all kinds of testing on it and has concluded it's just an electrical fault. It's strange though.
What do you guys think of the super easy power steering? I just wish the Legend came with a four cylinder engine and four wheel steering... then it would be ultimate.
Has anyone had any problems with the automatic gearbox? The one I've got is changing a bit roughly.
Other than that, it's a great car.
Wow, I originally posted the very first comment here. And only revisited this site because I was researching other cars to buy. Well, just in case you all are interested, my story is that my first 1988 Legend ended up being stolen outside the Adelaide Zoo, and wrecked in 2004. So I claimed off my insurance at that time $5000, I searched long and hard to buy another 1988 Honda Legend. I persisted to find the exact same car with the exact same trimmings (I was looking for a certain type of interior, rare because the car was a Japanese import) I took that Legend with me from Adelaide to Sydney, passed all the registration checks, my car stayed with me until I had to sell him. I only sold him to another Legend enthusiast. Someone who would love the car as much as I. I knew the purchaser was an enthusiast because she said she drove all the way from Tare-e (2 hours away) because she only wanted buy a Honda Legend with a square boot. Not the rounded looking Legend :) - the 1991 version.
I have read every comment you all have written and feel touched that there are some of us who do know how to appreciate a great car, even if the car was made 20 years ago.
With regards to the ABL light - if the ABL system is A okay, it could be a fuse or electrical problem. I had the exact same problem, and had to go to a mechanic willing enough to tinker with the wiring to disable this light. The back yard job cost me $50.
Like Steven said, please look after your Legend. it will really really serve you well if you service it well.
I have a 1989 maroon Honda Legend 172.000 kms.. The noise in engine bay is the engine mount.. have the same thing.. great car.. Justin.
I have 1993 Honda Legend KA7 4 door. Have had it now 2 years. Had full service history, really great car, hope to have it for many more years.
It gets an oil change every 10,000 kms, full synthetic.
Only problem is very slight wear in the inner tie rod, $167 from Honda, as there is no aftermarket parts for the tie rod in Australia that I can find. Does anyone know if the Acura Legend in the US parts are compatible?
To be honest I love the Honda's. My Legend looks great alongside my 1966 Honda S800 coupe, which I have had for over 30 years.
Cheers all
Dave.

Hi everyone.
On the 9th of August, just week ago, I bought the 89's Honda legend. I saw her on the Internet, called to the seller, we had a ten minutes conversation and from that minute I knew, that I gonna buy it.
The car is great! Only 153000 km, 2.7 litres, V6, 161 horsepower, automatic gearbox, she drives amazingly! I even couldn't believe, that I can buy so great car for that small price, in $ it would be 1050!
Of course, it has some negative points, but it doesn't matter :) ) It can be fixed :)

Interesting thread. So glad Google found you for me. Just purchased a white 1989 Legend for $1,700 and almost outa rego.
You know what the most crazy part of it is though... I haven't even seen it in LIFE yet. Only pics. Will see it next week. Owner (older type person) says it is A1 with regular service. Small tear on drivers seat but has covers. Leather looks good. No cracks and stuff.
Reading all of these comments makes me feel I have done the right thing, although, I'm still a little nervous hoping the truth was told and I'm not investing in a lemon.
I love LUXURY. I think I will call it My LIMO.
Will update later. Fingers crossed all is OK.
