I've had a few of the problems mentioned here. About a year ago the Service 4WD light came on. On 99 models this is usually the 4WD switch on the dash and is a fairly easy thing to fix. Try and replace that before getting the transfer case torn open you'll save a lot of money.

I have the failing fuel gauge too, but haven't fixed it yet. Also had e-brake work done and repaired a front strut bracket that broke a weld.

I have a 1999 silverado that my dad bought new. We have loved this truck and have had very few problems out of it. At thirty thousand miles we had to replace a rotar, at 150,000 he replaced the ABS sensor $760.00. I was so impressed by the abuse that this truck had been given and the few problems that he had, that when he said he was going to trade the truck in march of 2007 I said I would like to buy it from him. About one year later at 260,000 orginal miles on motor and transmision, the transmision went out. I was not disgusted in the least bit. At the time the truck was pulling a trailer and a lawn mower, and I lost high gear as well as reverse but mad it back the remaining 10 miles. That cost me 1700.00 but came with a 3yr 36000 mile warranty. I love this truck and have not really had a lick of trouble since the transmission other than the transmission. which I am going to admit this truck has hauled and pulled more than the manufacturer had condoned. I swear by these trucks because the the experiences I've had with this one,

john kentucky.

I have a '99 1500 silverado. Currently 160k and the 5 speed manual. The trany is whining a lot (sounds like a tractor trailer). I had a new clutch installed and related bearings and the dealer told me that it would quiet down eventually (right). Any recommendations? Also, on the sticky throttle - I found that the mid grade gas at the chevrons works great on that.

Hi, I also own a 99 Silverado and I love it, but it has given me a lot of trouble. Right now I'm dealing with an oil leak on the gasket between the transmission and engine. Also the ABS and emergency brake light went off.

My fuel gauge goes crazy sometimes when I drive in the city, but comes back when I hit the freeway.

Sometime the engine will shake while idle. It has 169,000 miles and has had a transmission swap, it would not shift from 1st to 2nd. But anyway I love my truck.

I too have a '99 Silverado. All I can say is that it looks good sitting in the driveway.

Like most, I have had similar problems. Mine is a 2 wheel drive extended cab. I have only driven it 200 miles in the last 5 months. I experienced the same brake problems as most. The only difference is that the last time my brakes went out, I hit the back of a loaded hotel bus. In a panic stop, the pedal goes all the way to the floor. So it cost me a complete front end as well.

The fuel gage issue, odometer issue, sticky gas pedal, power window issue and especially the transmission issue, I experienced them all. I have had issue with the last 3 New Chevy's I have owned.

When I had my transmission rebuilt (automatic), the shop was surprised that it made it to 110,000 before the rebuild. They said that most went out between 85,000 and 95,000 miles. They told me that there has been 5 upgrades done to the rebuilds since 1999. Chevrolet has not stood by any of there problems, there have been no recalls that I am aware of covering the listed issues and I will not be purchasing a General Motors product again.
