I guess I've been very fortunate with my Dodge Ram 1500 SLT as The only problem I've had with it was the AC evaporator which was just this year... I drive my truck daily and bought it new.

My 1998 Ram 1500 5.2 V8 automatic also has a surging problem. the tac jumps up about 300 RPM's at around 1800-2000 RPM. Usually during inclines, but not always. The tranny has been replaced, new TPS, new speed output sensor, computer has been re-flashed with no luck. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have a 1999 Dodge Ram Sport with 79,000 miles on it. I've owned it for 3 months and love it. The other day, I was driving and it wouldn't shift as I went faster,

(about 3000+RPM @ 55mph). Also it seems to slip into neutral while I'm driving quite frequently. Any ideas???

I own a 98' Ram SLT 5.9.It has an after market cold air intake and a 30 HP super-chip. I have had only one problem and that is the driver door motor burned out it cost $100.00 to replace and works like new. Other than that this truck has been a dream I drive it every day it has 78000 miles, gets its oil changed every 2000 and I use premium gas not 87 even though the manual says to. I have this truck a long time and no real problems.

2001 Ram 1500, 5.2L.

Vehicle surges approx. 100-300 RPM at 2000 RPM, in cruise and out. Surge problem started around 30k miles, currently have 74K miles. Took to dealership yesterday... told them about what has been written here... they got on phone with Chrysler while driving. Actions completed by dealer: PCM reflash, torque converter lockup. Cleaned throttle body and re-flashed PCM with updated software. Costs $190. Drove back to Oklahoma City... problem re-occurred entire way (2.5 hour drive). Will take back to dealer tomorrow. Recommend re-drive after repair, BEFORE paying for service!

Hey peoples I just got a 98 dodge ram SST. My problem is every time the car is cold and I start it up and drive.

Even after I warm up the car. When I give it gas it kinda chokes on me bad. Almost like it wants to turn off, but it doesn't. When the car gets warm it stops doing it. It is really strange. If any body knows what it could be your help

would be very appreciated.

I have a 97 Ram 2500 with the 5.9 360, and I was driving, and it shut off and had no power to the fuel pump. I then found out that I was not getting a spark either. So I changed my fuel pump, my coil and my computer, and the truck still will not start, so if any one has had heard of this problem, please e-mail me.

Thanks

Sorry folks, I just read these issues.

The problem is the torque converter lockup switch inside the transmission. This is a known issue with the 46RE electronic shift transmissions.

The dealer should have known this. If you are experiencing an approximately 300rpm surge at consistent highway speeds whether you are in overdrive or not, then this is your problem.

The fix, unfortunately is no fun. The dealer will either turn off the torque converter lockup causing your truck to constantly run at about 500rpm higher than without the lockup switch. Of course the Lockup feature of the Torque converter is for improved gas mileage at Highway speeds. Or he will tell you to deal with it, which is actually right.

The cause of the problem is the normal wear and tear of the transmission, and unfortunately the fix is a new tranny.

Sorry to be the bringer of bad news, but that is what it is.

Agree with the last comment to a point. Mine has had this problem since new. Just located a transmission mechanic worth his salt. He will be installing a "Sure Cure" kit. This increases lubrication, which eliminates the heat issue that causes this problem. While he's at it, he's installing a shift reprogramming kit in the valve body for better shifts. He's done several in the past. I checked his customers, and they were happy with the fix. If you ignore it, the torque converter will prematurely fail.

I own a 1999 Fodge 1500 5.2 with the 42re. I just had it rebuilt with a converter about 5000 miles ago, and I'm having the same problems with the lockup. I brought it back, and they hooked it up to the computer on the highway. The graphs showed a consistent drop in gas at the time of disengagement. He told me to put new battery terminals on. Tried it, still doing it. Told me map sensor, but everyone is saying it can't be? I think it's the TPS from the symptoms.

My Dodge at 105000 miles might be just worn out. Don't worry 24/24 warranty.

Hey, I have a 1999 Dodge Ram 5.9l automatic and my transmission won't shift out of second gear, and my speedometer is dead and my ABS and brake lights are on. I ordered a ABS speed sensor that mounts on the rear diff. I hope this takes care of it. If anyone had this same problem, please let me know thanks.

I have a 98 Dodge 1500 5.9l 4x4 that also won't shift out of second. Works better when you first start it and gets worse as it warms up. My ABS and check engine lights are on and my speedometer doesn't work until about 35mph. It doesn't seem like a tranny rebuild problem because it been like this a while and still works good when first ran in the morning. I've read it could possibly be shift sensors or ABS sensors. Any ideas???

I have a 2005 Dodge Ram SLT. On inclines on a cold start, when putting it in drive and depressing the accelerator, the vehicle rolls back at least 3-4 feet before engaging.
