Re: Door Ajar light etc. I had the same problem. Long story short: I zeroed in on the latch for the rear window, as the problem initially stared there. Banging did help at fist (as another poster noted) long-term, the problem solved with a thorough cleaning of the latch area and an application of lube to the moving parts of the latch. Presto; what a relief that the interior lights now turn off. FORD: Fix Or Repair Daily.
To the owner who has the check engine light on. Mine too did that and it is the emission sensor that is setting it off. It cost $200 to fix, but other than that everything else is great.
We just bought a 2001 Navigator with 48,000 miles. We love it, but when we turn corners it makes a popping noise and the dealer keeps saying its fine...??? Then today we were driving down the road and the whole back end fell, we looked like we were driving a low-rider. We have only had it 3 months and it is in the shop every week. The body is in mint condition so we THOUGHT it was well cared for... Any suggestions???
I have a 99 Navigator and am having a problem where the truck won't start. The dash lights up, but starter doesn't do anything. No rime or reason 10 minutes or an hour later it will start. Doesn't happen all the time could be a week or a day before the problem happens again. Anyone have any ideas?
I was considering looking at a 1999 Lincoln Navigator this weekend to purchase for my family. But after reading these comments I am wary; however, if I do decide to look at it, I will be sure to check for rust around the door seams. I own a 98 Explorer which mysteriously came down with worn axle gears this year... strange since it seemed fine for the first 4 years of my ownership, and I am particular with my maintenance and parts. Anyway, I need to replace it, because it is no longer reliable and since I have a growing family, I wanted something that would last. I thought that a vehicle like a LINCOLN, is supposed to be TOP OF THE LINE in construction and workmanship. I guess I am mistaken. I have a 97 T-Bird that I will keep forever, because even though it has rust on the bottom of one door and below the rear windows the engine still purrs and it still drives like a new car. BUT I was the one and only owner of that car, and the only driver as well... I drove it's first miles. I suspect that the rust issue has to do with WHERE the Navigator was constructed: Mexico or Canada??? I doubt any of it was made in the US anymore. My theory is that if your Navigator came out of a Plant in Canada - you are good to go, but if it came from Mexico... you are not so lucky and will have many miles and years of disappointment with your vehicle. My Explorer... was made in Mexico... My father is shocked; he insists it can't be the axles, because he never heard of axle gears wearing out. He is a devout FORD man and gets mad at his 6 daughters every time we buy another brand... but, alas, FORD has forced each and every one of us to change brands. I guess going to the Luxury end of Ford isn't a safe bet either! By the way, my T-Bird was made in Canada!!! I want to thank the auto manufacturer's in CANADA for having pride in their work!!!
I would chose a 1998 Navigator. It's a great family car; great for camping, and very nice for long distance trips; all my friends love it. JUST TAKES UP 2 MUCH GAS. Everything else is good.
I LIKE THE TVS.
Hi, my name is Paul and I own a 1999 Navigator with 170,000 miles on it. Never had a problem, I guess just the rust, but that's about it.
I would like to upgrade to a 2003 at least, but it will be difficult for me to be apart from my truck. I love it, and my wife loves it. Any comments, let me know.
Thanks Lincoln.
My tailgate switch corroded and the interior lights stayed on.
The air-ride compressor is noisy no matter how many times I have it fixed.
The power steering has always been noisy and started to leak/seep at 75,000 miles.
All four doors are rusting at the seams along the bottom of the doors.
The climate control seats don't work very well, especially the cooling function.
The rear wiper stopped working and had to be repaired.
The (noisy) air-ride compressor turns on often.
Did I mention that all four doors started to corrode when the Navigator was only about four years old.
I can think of a better way to spend over $50,000.
The engine and transmission have been very good, everything else is crap.
I have a 1999 Nav with 133,000 miles and I love it, but I am having some problems. I notice that the air ride compressor comes on when I start the car and while I am driving. Is that normal? Also my back windshield wiper stop working it comes on and off from time to time and finally the door ajar light comes on and when I turn off the car the interior light and the running board light stays on which is draining my battery. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks.
I have a 2000 Navigator 4x4 and got it used with 59,000 miles on it. Really had no problems with it, except after the 70,000 miles check up my seats (heated and A/C) stopped working. I think the dealer did it to make me spend more money on it. Also the back windshield wiper stop working.
But overall happy other than you have to put premium in it.
We have a 1999 Lincoln Navigator. When backing out of driveway it makes a loud popping sound, usually but not always when steering in either direction. This seems to be coming from front end, steering or suspension.
A local mechanic gave up on it and no telling what a dealer, or other large place would charge if kept replacing parts until finally getting the right one.
Gilbert.
Here the question; can Ford come up with a way to burn regular gas in the 99 Navigator?
Hi.
My name is Ilunga and I shipped a 99 Lincoln Navigator to Africa... My buyer is experiencing a problem where the engine will shut off any time he will completely stop. He replaced the fuel pump to no success... any help??? (ikasweka@hotmail.com)
I have a 1999 Lincoln Navigator 4x4 and I just absolutely love the truck. It has just over 200,000 kms on it. We have put a a lot of wear and tear on it driving back and forth to the east coast and Toronto. I would say that we have had our money's worth on it.
We are now experiencing a lot of parts going, with wear and tear. We replaced the transmission, the alternator, the starter and we have a new battery.
There is no rust and the interior has held up amazingly well. We had the door ajar light situation until we cleaned the latch area as well.
More recently two cylinders went on the vehicle and a mechanic quoted me about 2 thousand dollars to replace the two cylinders.
My question is: At 2200.00 for an engine from a junkyard, would it be advisable to replace the engine with someone else's or should I have mine repaired for the same cost.
I think a new one from Ford would run me close to 4gs.
Thoughts and advice would be greatly appreciated.
Hi, I've got a 1999 Lincoln Navigator and the mileage now is about 115,000 miles: I'm the second owner of this truck, and when I got it, the mileage was only about 76,000 miles.
Ever since I got the truck, I have had never done any major work on the engine, and never did any tune up or anything like that, just an oil change every 3000 miles.. now here's my story, hope somebody will help me out:
I was on the way home from work and the weather is top 95 degrees, so I usually turn the A/C on, until that afternoon, I've noticed after I turn the A/C on, it was hot air coming out of it... so okay, I thought at first it's about time for an A/C service... but I ignored it for about a month without A/C... after a month I was driving on my way home again, when all of a sudden the SERVICE ENGINE SOON lights up.
Now my question to you guys is, is this to do with the A/C not working anymore? Or does it also need to do some tune up service???
But this truck still running like a champ... do I have to ignore it again or what??? Please help me out before I will spend money with the shop and let them diagnose the problem...
Thanks Jom.
