Have owned a 1999 Rodeo LS since it was new. Oil port (somewhere around the camshaft) feeding into the valves clogged with metal shavings (as determined by Isuzu post mortem) and the engine blew around 34,000 miles on the freeway. What a mess that was. Mostly bent rods. Isuzu would only rebuild the engine for me as the tech. said the cylinders were fine and wouldn't replace with a new engine. So I settled for them rebuilding the engine at the dealership. Have had problems with the ABS module breaking twice, alarm system failing, gas gauge failing, exhaust manifold breaking, and now a blown head gasket. It's had plenty of rough off-road use and commuter miles (at 160K now) but overall I would rate my experience with this vehicle a 1 out of 10.

I was wondering could someone tell me how to check low voltage in a 99 Isuzu rodeo? My fuel gauge is going haywire and my transmission is clunking too. If someone could help it would be appreciated. Please email with the answer at pennfire51@yahoo.com.

I bought a 99 Honda Passport 4x4 and have had a great experience until recently. This last month, I went 1000 miles after an oil change and suddenly heard knocking and my oil light came on. When I pulled over and checked my oil, it was completely dry! I added 3 quarts to get me back to the place I had just got my service done and was once again dry on oil when they checked it. The mechanic said there was absolutely no leaks, no white smoke in the exhaust like it was burning that heavy, and no oil in the coolant. There has never been the slightest problem before, just regular maintenance like brakes and shocks. I now have 138,000 miles on it. I keep up with all typical services on it and actually perform most before they need to be done just to make sure it keeps working good. I am gonna try to switch my oil to 15w-40, but if that does not work, I will be looking towards the class action suit with the rest of you!

I have been with out my 1999 Isuzu Rodeo for 3 months now. I took my car to the shop for an oil change and 3 weeks later the engine blew. There was no oil in it...bone dry. The car was driven very little during that time.I'm still making payments. My gas gauge also went out and my ABS light stays on after dealer recall. I love my car and can't afford new motor. I would like Isuzu to take responsibility for their manufactured defects. If anyone has a class action please contact me. pemdlw605@aol.com.

I have a 1999 Rodeo also and it consumes a quart of oil every 500-600 miles. I mean it is ridiculous now. I have to drive around with a case of oil in the back. Has anyone got any replys back from Isuzu about this? I am about to call Isuzu tonight and see what they say. Also my ABS light comes on even after I have fixed it 3 times paying over $200.00 each time.

I don't wanna be just another person to say the exact same thing.. But yes I had the check oil light in my 2001 HONDA PASSPORT come on, when I checked it, OIL HALF EMPTY!!

I have a good mechanic so if I find something out I will let everyone know..

In the mean time, the law suit sounds really good..

I'm Peter from Dayton, OH. (937) 422-5258 <post4peter2day@hotmail.com>

If anyone wants to start this, count me in as a partner!

Also.. I've had a check engine light for months now, the error code reads.. 1275 MANUFACTURER CONTROL, AIR-FUEL METERING.. I know it has something to do with the APP (Accelerator Pedal Position) and/or the O2 sensor. Tried replacing the sensor and re-positioning the pedal, but did not work. If anyone knows anything about this please contact me and let me know, either phone or email. Thanks!

I'll keep you all posted and lets all keep in touch..

Again my contact info...

As an owner of a 1999 Rodeo I purchased new, I'm bummed out to hear so many people are having trouble with their vehicles burning excessive oil. My Rodeo has about 60K miles and so far I have not experienced this problem. I am having the problem with the fuel sending unit that causes your gas gauge to read incorrectly, I just ordered the replacement part off or ebay for about $35 and plan to spend some time this weekend installing it. The only other problem I've had with this vehicle was with the ABS brake module (the issue where it continues to run after the engine is turned off) but this was fixed under warranty at no cost to me. So far I've been very happy with the vehicle overall, but after reading the comments on this forum I'll be checking the oil level much more frequently! Good luck folks-

We too are having the oil burning problem described in multiple previous posts...it's a shame b/c otherwise it's a good vehicle.

I was surprised & shocked at all of the others with the same problem, you would think that a recall would be in order with this many people having this issue! I'm going to try the 15W-40 oil & I also bought a product called slick 50 for high mileage engines... it claims to reduce oil burning. I'll report back.

I own a 1999 Isuzu Rodeo LSE, which I purchased in 2002 with 29k miles. It is now approaching 80k miles and I have the following troubles with the vehicle:

#1. Sending unit is bad so gas gauge reads empty.

#2. Vehicle burns 1 quart of oil every 800 miles. Engine

pings.

#3. ABS light is constantly on.

#4. Intermittent wipers do not function. Regular wipers

stop in the middle of the window when shut off, unless

switched off in the down position.

#5. Wheel bearings in front are bad on both sides, so I

hear a whirring while driving. Going to be expensive to

fix.

I am wondering if anyone wants to file a class action since so many of us have similar issues. I paid good money for my vehicle, in good faith that it would last at least 100k miles or more. I did not expect to share identical problems with owners that are obviously manufacturer's flaws since the commonalities are so obvious!

I also own a 99 Isuzu Rodeo and have had the following problems...

ABS light is constantly on.

Slipping in the transmission, but only the first time I drive it per day. I had a tranmsission flush about 3 months ago and the problem stopped... that is til today.

Check Engine light comes on for no reason.

I am so fed up with this car. It only has 85,000 miles on it so I have no idea how these problems are constantly occurring!!!

Add another fed-up 99 Rodeo owner to the list. I really wish I'd have read some of these postings before buying the damn thing. Seems redundant, but my problems have been:

- Fuel sensor

- Rough starting (and erratic idling)...engine will occasionally cut off while driving

- ABS

- Intermittent wipers, rear wipers

- Oil consumption.

Have spent about $2000 on these issues with little success... Please let me know about a lawsuit

Have 4X4 '99 Passport purchased new, now has 109K miles. Taken great care with oil changes every 3-5 k miles etc.. my problems include -gas gauge reads empty (i fill every 200 miles), ABS went out at 75K (refused to fix this), wipers don't park proper and the intermittent function is faltering, NOW I have discovered very little oil. No evidence of spillage or burning!!! Dare I take it to mechanic after reading the above notes??? help..eyler80@yahoo.com.

Count me in on any lawsuit! I'm a '99 Rodeo in disguise (Honda) owner, bought it new in '99 - religiously checked the oil & kept all records. Complained about oil consumption to Honda @ 30K miles, they said it's normal. At 55K miles the engine was sucked dry in under 1000 miles and it failed. Honda refused any help - out of warranty. Replaced the engine ($5,500) and now I've got the same problem 35K miles into the new engine!! Engine eats a quart of synthetic 10W40 every 750 miles now. This has to be a huge design flaw and I can't believe Isuzu hasn't done a thing about it. I do like the vehicle - sturdy as hell off road!

Please contact me at jhaydeno<at>aol.com if anyone can get a class action lawsuit started. As an aside, I've also had the ABS and the fuel gauge troubles too.

Another happy 99 isuzu owner. We bought the car new and have changed the oil religously. Up until 6 months ago, the engine used some oil, but only 1 quart every 5000 miles.

The vehicle has 110,000 very easy miles on it, and it now burns about 3-4 quarts every 700 miles. The gas gauge always reads empty.

The Isuzu mechanic I talked with acknowledged the problem. He claims that a PCB service to clean out carbon from the systme, and a hot soak will do the trick. Dare I spend $500 for this work?

He also claims that the catalytic converter in the rodea does such a magnificent job with the exhaust that that is the reason no evidence of oil burning comes out of the tail pipe.
