Hello. I really wish I had discovered this site earlier. I have a 2002 Jetta and I've encountered every problem mentioned here, from the radio going out, sunroof leaking into the car, window falling into the door. Now I have another problem; my radio light went out--the blue screen that displays the radio stations or cd track number. All of the red lights around it are working, it's just the blue light in the middle that is out. Anybody know how to fix this? I'd really appreciate it. Thanks.
Hey great forum, I was just wondering if the "fuse 42 thing" would work with a 2001 Jetta as well as the 2002 version?
Any feedback would be great. Thanks!
When people are saying that the radio is dead, do they mean the tuner is dead or the unit is dead. Because, my cd player/tape player work fine, however I cannot get any radio stations to come in. I tried fuse 42 and it now comes in a little better, but there is still a lot of fuzz making it unlistenable. It still won't find stations during seek mode. My car antenna seems to be in good shape, is there an amplifier or something that needs to be looked at?
2002 TDI Jetta.
My first issue was the driver side seat caught on fire; they changed it.
Then the air bag light has been on; they tell me it has to be changed, well that was three years ago.
Then my starter.
My hazard lights relay switch had to be changed, since I heard nothing but clicking after signalling to turn left.
Door light ajar wouldn't go off.
Both front windows fell into frame one year apart.
Peeling of door handles.
The truck will not open with the key.
Lost my skid plate twice.
Check engine light has come on three times for glow plugs.
Needed a new fuse for the lighter.
Did need a new transmission, but in fairness it did drive 200 kms with a hole punctured in the tranny.
Now the issue is my lights on the dash are staying on when the car is turned off, and going off when the car is turned on. And the heater on the passenger side is not working either, and the spring in the driver's side has let go. No dealer in sight for 450 kms.
Does anyone know how to easily get the turn signal bulb out of its position in order to replace the bulb for a 2002 Jetta?
I must say, after reading all of the posts I feel a little better about all the problems I have had! I have a 2002 Jetta, bought brand new from VW. I have had both of my windows falling in, my radio has turned off numerous times, the check engine light was on for over two years (it is finally off due to a diagnostic testing-$90). After all of that I just had to get a new transmission!!! HOW FUN! I have never heard of a five year old car with only 80K miles needing a new tranny. Not sure if my car is even worth the $2800 I just put into it, but I'm not ready for a new vehicle yet. Wondering if anyone has any advice... Should I just sell this thing and get what I can, or will things just continue to go wrong? I think I know the answer, but any help would be great. Thanks! Lindsey98765@yahoo.com.
Great forum. I have a 2002 Jetta and I went through all the window problems mentioned earlier. Now my temp gauge is intermittent, and the engine indicator is on all the time.. help!, any ideas?
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for the fuse 42 tip. Worked like a charm. Thank God for the internet. Now I just need to talk to them about my window and the recall I'm reading about. It hasn't fallen in but is acting weird.
Today my car alarm went off 3 separate times within a 15 minute period. It only chimed about 10 times before turning itself off. I thought that the battery might be the problem, but I check the battery voltage and CCA's and that's not the problem. My car did have a problem starting yesterday. Could this be a warning? Maybe a short? I have an 02 Jetta 1.8t with a few mods.
Hello fellow VW owners! My problem seems simple compared to all of yours, but I will list it here. I am a new '02 Jetta owner and the problem I am having is with my remote/keyless entry. It will not lock or open if I am not directly in front of the door; nor will my trunk open with the remote. I have replaced the batteries myself. Can anyone think of what the problem might be? Any help is greatly appreciated.
I have a 2002 Jetta GLX and just had my radio/stereo stop working. Would not turn on out of the blue. I pulled fuse 42 as someone suggested and placed it back in about 20 seconds later and the radio began working again. I had a tape and CD in there for about a year without changing which I think I saw previously can mess with the computer and shut it down. Thanks to this board I probably saved myself some money by not having it looked at professionally.
AFTER MARKET RADIO INSTALLATION PLEASE READ - if you are having trouble trying to figure out how to pass an emissions test... just unplug the radio! Its that simple. I called around to dealerships and service shops and that was recommended, so I gave it a shot and it worked like a charm (a lot easier that reinstalling my factory radio to get the k-wire to register)... good luck!
Hello! I'm so glad to hear i'm not alone here. I currently have an engine sensor, mass air flow sensor, cigg lighter, clove box, and a hub cap that needs to be fixed. Nobody will even look at my car without $80 to give me! This car blows!! NEVER BUY ONE!!! I don't think i'll ever have the money to fix mine. I have googled parts and their only less than 50 bucks, but no one will fix it for those prices!!!
Bought a 2002 Jetta GLS three years ago. Loved it at first, then many little annoyances started happening. Just had my passenger window fall, and thanks to this site I called up VW and found out they have an `extended` warranty (in Canada, not sure about U.S). A company must know they sold a lemon if it still has warranty for things such as a window mechanism.
Also:
-electric seat burned my wife
-passenger side heated seat stopped working
-latch for arm rest broke the week I bought it
-almost all of the plastics inside are peeling.
Call or email VW to complain about this incredibly bad car.
Bad car, very bad service by my VW dealership,
this car is a lemon.
Transmission at 105 000km; $3 500 + $1 000 for the time to repair it.
Radio $300
Bad sensor $150
I will never own another VW.
