I bought a 92 Z34 a few months ago and it runs great. The only problem I have with it is the gas pedal. When you first press it down it sticks, but then it's fine. It only sticks when you first press it though, so I took off my air intake and cleaned the inside of the plate around the engine compartment, but it still sticks. Anyone know how to fix it? Comment back please.

I had a 94 camaro, and had the same Gas Pedal Problem. I just took it into my Local Garage and they fixed it. It turned out to be a 23 Cents C Clip, mounted on the Firewall. They changed it for Free so it must have been easy. I hope that helps.

Do you have floor mats? Something like that was happening to me when I bought my 96 Sunfire, turns out the pedal was catching on the floor mat! Man did I ever feel stupid! Other things to check would be the cable itself. Have someone press the pedal while you look at the cable in the engine bay. There also might be a spring where the cable attaches to the throttle body. They sometimes rust or get sticky. Spray it with some penetrating lube.

Hello! I'm the proud owner of a '93 z-34. I've had it for about 4 yrs. I really like the performance of the car. It handles very good for it's size, and the motor is strong. It's got good looks too. Like many other owners of this car, I don't like the crowded engine bay. It's difficult at best. I've had the timing belt and alternator replaced at a cost of about $2000! That's too much!...but I like this car, so I grin and bear it! My problem now is, the car will start and run for a while, then quit!...for no apparent reason. It gives no info. on the dash. It may start an hour or so later, or refuse to start for days. Every time I take it to a shop the problem will not surface and will run (idle) for hours. Any guess's, or similar experiences.

So yea I own the 1991 Z34 Lumina...it's a beautiful rare red with an automatic transmission. great car, but like all those who have had one... the engine is to crampt up! I'm replacing my alternator right now and I have never had more problems with a car. costing me 3 hundred to replace. If anyone out there can please tell me what kind of shift kit would be good for my car, it would be much appreciated. I don't know if that guy above is right or not, but is it really a bad idea to put a turbo in the Z34? anyone with this knowledge... can you please e-mail me at Lavitz_89@yahoo.com

thanks.

I am also a proud owner of a 93 Z34 black automatic. I have all just about all the problems listed with this car that anyone has experience. I bought it in 96 and owned it until now. Three alternators, water pump, radiator, power steering, many break jobs, (and yes I can’t get rid of that nasty noise in the front brakes) messed up dash, you name it I have had it I guess…anyways, I still can’t find a reason to get rid of the car….14 years old and still gets looks out there.. for the friend with the starting problem check all of your electric connections, battery and starter specially…if anyone has worked out a way to fix/replace the dash please let me know…still looking for that…paultrindade@yahoo.com

Definitely if you don’t have the $$ for maintenance/repairs, don’t buy this car…

Cheers...

I picked a nice '92 Z34 with a 5 speed in it, does anyone know how many of these were produced?

I'm the owner of a 93 (White) Z-34 and a 94 (Black) Z34. The black one is a parts car that was fudge packed and sent to the auction. It was a wet miserable auction outside and I only paid $350 For the black one. I have since swapped motors and am still trying to figure out the major bog at full-throttle. I pulled the motors out the top and had maybe 1/4 inch to spare on one side. In all I'm thinking it took @35 hours to do both, this was from a Thursday night to Sunday morning. I am my own mechanic. As for spark plugs I can do mine in 10 Minutes. No cutting! No doubt it's a pain in the, but to work on, but it's worth it to me.

I have the chance to pick up a 93 Lumina, with a 3.4, but it has a broken timing set. Does anyone know if it would bend the valves in this case?

I have a 93 z34, when I first got in it I completely fell in love with the car. I've had most the problems that everyone else has except the timing belt, but only had the car for a year. it great driving down the road having a little Honda come outta nowhere and then you step on it and you can't see it anymore. I had a major electrically problem just like someone else's, the car wouldn't start or it would die out after a few minutes, turned out simply just to be the positive battery cable, replace it and haven't had a problem since. Keep up the fun driving, I certainly will!!!

I have a 1993 z34 Lumina. I have had this car for about a year now, it has 186,000 miles on it. Haven't had any real problems with it except one. This car has got me baffled. I also am my own mechanic, there is not much that I cannot handle when it comes to cars. For some reason one day, the car would sputter and die at an idle, you would have to keep it running with the petal. Hooked a scanner to it, and the temp. sensor code came up. It was about 75 deg. that day, and the coolant was reading -45 deg. Simple fix, right? So I changed that out, and code still exists. Turns out this goofy 3.4 has two temp. sensors. An engine temp. sensor and a coolant temp. sensor. But they both feed in to water jackets. And they are both a real picnic to get to. So I changed both of those, and now the car just idles at 3,000 rpm. No problem. Idle air control code pops up, I have gone thru 3 of those, reset the code prob. 5 times, still no fix. If you shut the car off for 10 minutes, fire it up the car runs great. I would love to drive it into a tree, but my wife loves it. Any ideas?

Please e-mail me at: mygta1989@yahoo.com this car doesn't have long to live...

I own a '93 Z-34 Chevy Lumina also, and I'm having the same problem as mentioned by another owner. The car quits running for no apparent reason and won't start, sometimes for days, and gives no problem codes or check engine light! I've been told that the problem could be a "crank position sensor" or the ignition control module. My car is still sitting today because of this problem. The local garage wants about $1000 to replace these items. You can probably do it yourself for much less. I'm going to replace the "crank sensor" first, then see what happens. I'll keep you posted... oh yeah!...I've had many of the problems mentioned by other owners here; eg. timing belt, alternator, ridiculously tight engine bay, and others, but I still like this car!

Ken.

For the person with the lumina z34 idling at 3000 rpm, just brought a black 93 z34 with the same problem. Family works for chevrolet dealership and said to check intake gasket. Replaced intake gasket were oil was leaking and now car idles normal and purrs like a kitten. Hope this helps.

To the man with the Black 93 Z34...I have replaced the Intake gaskets, and still no fix. I have replaced the fuel pump, fuel regulature, Intake gaskets, manefold gaskets, gone through sensor after sensor, replaced many vacume hoses, rewired some wires that were pinched... still no fix! Oh yea, I have also gone through 3 sets of spark plug wires and 7 sets of plugs in a little over a year. Now since it is cold outside and everytime the car gets fired up it reves itself so high it hits the rev. limiter... now the rods are starting to to knock! Is there any hope for this car??? If anyone has any other suggestions, please let me know, I am at a stand still with this car. I would love to get it fixed, It is a rare white has absolutly no rust... interior is excelent. I'm sure this is something easy... if I could just figure it out!

To Ken with the starting prob. Have you hooked it up to a fuel pressure tester?? My car was doing that... but I am my own mechanic, and I replaced the fuel pump... and it fired right up after that. I would say check your fuel pressure before you get into the sensors. Sometimes they just get week, but don't actually go out... I drove on mine for about 4 mo. before replacing it, so I would strongly recomend checking that first. And yes...$1000 is a crock, considering the part is a $20 part! If you do have to replace sensors... they are very easy... they just unplug and you plug the other one in. And any local parts store can print you a diagram of where the sensor is that you are looking for. Even if you're not a mechanic, I'm sure you can do it and save yourself lots of money!
