I'm looking to buy one and am wondering will 18inch wheels fit on a standard gti, and does anybody have any ideas what style of wheel would suit the mk6 escort (I've always liked 5 spokes or multi)

OK I'm confused, parkers. com say that the gti is only a 1.8, but others on here have said it is a 1.6. Moneysupermarket. com say there is 1.4 and a 1.6 with 16v, I have got a quote off moneysupermaket. com for the 1.4. Is there one or not? or are they only 1.6 and 1.8? or only 1.8?

Please help. I baffled!

So far as I know the GTi only came in 1.8, Zetec-E 115bhp form, and is (I think) ins. group 13 if that's any help?

I've got an Si Estate with the same motor and it's a reasonably quick car, not fast by any means, but enough. You still get hammered on insurance if you're quite young... Meh.

The GTi comes in a 1.6 16v and a 1.8 16v version.

The Mk6 Escort Gti was only ever available with a 1.8 16v Zetec E Engine producing 115bhp standard. It is the exact same engine as the 1.8 16v Si and as found in the 1.8 Mk1 and Mk2 Mondeo. There has never been a 1.4 or 1.6 Escort Gti.

The 1.4 Mk5b/Mk6 Escort was fitted with Fords Four cylinder PTE Engine which was just an upgraded CVH Engine there is no 1.4 16v Zetec E.

Escort Gti, Zetec E 1.8 16v 115bhp - That's it there is no other type of Genuine Escort Gti!!!

Just bought a gti, r reg, dark red, 73k. not the fastest car ever, but by no means slow! these cars are still real head turners, unlike those pathetic looking vtr's. these boy racers do make me laugh with their barrel sized exhausts!

Hi there everyone. I've had my Escort GTI now for nearly 3 years, and really need some advice if anyone can help me? I'm wondering what size engine I could get in my car? I'm thinking something with a turbo? Not a bolt on turbo either.

Does anyone have any suggestions, and where I could get an engine from?

Thanks.

Hi boys, I've got an Escort Si (GTI rep). I've got a turbo fitted low compression, ain't no Saxo touchin it. GTI's are slow as standard, but with a bit of money spent you can turn them into flyers.

If I had enough cash, I'd be going the traditional route and getting a cossie engine in there straight away, 227 bhp as standard! Just need it all wiring up and mating correctly.

Don't forget to up-rate everything such as suspension, brakes etc. so you don't crash!

I'm 23. I've only been driving a year, and I'm getting my GTi soon. How much roughly will it cost to get it to 150bhp?

Hi I bought my R plate Escort Gti when it was 1 year old with 9,000 miles on the clock, I still have it now! granted it is not the fastest Hatchback out there, but it will go quite well.

The best mods to carry out if you would like to get a little more oomph from yours is a K&N Cone filter and a decent cat back exhaust, I've fitted a Milltek 6 years ago and can honestly say it is a work of art. The 0-60 time is not that much improved from the factory 9.2 seconds I am getting around 8.6 the top speed has improved a bit to an indicated 126 from 122 standard. The massive difference is in the performance from 30 mph to around 70 ish! it really does make a difference above 4000rpm, 2nd gear off a roundabout and foot on the floor always makes me smile! They were all fitted with the 115 HP Zetec-E engines, get a front a rear strut brace fitted this makes a world of difference to the handling on mine. If you get horrible idle problems and it is not the Idle Valve try and change the Positive Crankcase Valve, it is often overlooked costs a couple of qiud and takes 2 minutes to fit! It cured mine! I also have tons of Ford brochures and technical info on my car if anyone needs info you can mail me on jinxydiver@hotmail.com. PS why is everyone obsessed with saxo's? they are a smaller Fiesta sized car? so they may well be quicker? all I know is compared to a BMW 318 Escort is quicker, cheaper to run, looks better, an has a lot more toys in it. nuff said!

My Escort GTi can beat any Saxo VTS, cos I have all these modifications to it!!! Uprated Cam and blah blah blah!

Now do the same to the Saxo and I will bet that the GTi will never be able to match it. If you're going to compare, then compare like for like cars, not a modified car to a standard car as it's totally unfair.

Do the maths; the VTS has 120 bhp and weighs in at 950kg, and the Escort has 115 bhp and weighs in over a ton and more!

Even if the VTS is a french tin-can, nothing can be said about the Ford as most of them will rust away soon away!
