Engine cutting out: Low on oil? Fuel pump?
Anyone know how the GTi is different to the Si in terms of performance? Engine tuning, Suspenstion, etc.
To the "garage" comment above: Bad day at work eh?? Won't be askin YOU for help haha!!! I think the Gti and the Si are both the same suspension/brakes wise, but the Si has a few different engine power outputs(95, 105 and 115ps) whereas the Gti is 115ps. The interior has half leather trim on the Gti and Rs2000 style side skirts on the outside with 5 spoke alloys (14inch I think) although I've jus put some escort cozzie rims on mine as I like the Gti's standard look so I don't wanna stray too far off by stickin "drug dealer" wheels on. I'm in the middle of doing an Rs2000 engine transplant into my 1997 model, I've heard it's a good choice as with a few mods I can reach 180/200bhp which should make "her" quite nippy, i'll keep you all posted on this and wish me luck with my clean point free license ;)

Right first things first the gti is not slow granted its not the fastest car on the planet, but for the price how can people sit here and winge about it if you wanna fast car buy a ferreri I mean yeah its heavier than a vts or whatever you wanna call it, but at the end of the day it's a CITRON which makes me cringe fords are easy to live with and there are shed loads of parts for it and its cheap to run I drive my gti to and from work everyday at least a 30 mile round trip and I fill it up every week and a half plus I drive it around after work and I don't exacly drive slow either me and 2 of my mates have gti s and all mine has is a cat back stainless on it and its well nice my mate dean has put the 2.0 maf sensor on and an induction kit and he pulls away from me and my other mate in a fashion and any info on the turbo kits gimme a shout and me and my 2 mates are talking about starting a club for all us gti owners, but need ppl to show an interest gimme a shout and we will try and sort it out, but I googled escort gti clubs and there is nothing I can find so it would be good to get all of us together.

Actually, the gti and si are identical, mechanical wise, the only differences being the wheels, body kit and some interior details. Oh and the much much higher insurance group rating.

Nope sorry all 1.8L mk6/7 escorts are 115ps.
I got a GTI about 2 months ago and I think they are nice pretty fast of pull off, but mine seems to struggle with it gets to 90-120 really slows down after 90 and struggles getting to 120..
Any ideas?
"struggles to 120" You should be chuffed that it gets to 120, they only have 115 bhp after all. There is nothing wrong with your car.

Last comment; get it serviced, it should fly to 120. Mine is an S reg; only upgrades I have is 40 mil lowering kit, Pipercross zaust system and Pipercross air filter, and I touch 130mph. They are fast cars for what they are; they come as 115 bhp as standard, you don't feel like its fast because it does it in quite good comfort.
ps. Anyone who thinks 130 is slow on the roads we have in the UK is in the Grim Reaper's sights.

Sensors before cat but the de cat pipe aint cheap as to mr no it all it does do 130 will prove it on rolling road for cash bet.
Anybody got a decat pipe cheap for my poorly Escort GTi? Mine has just collapsed. It sounds like I have got rocks in the pipe, and it won't go over 4000 revs. I got overtaken by a moped; that's bad!
OK just bought a black escort 99 gti a month ago and I love it. THEY ARE NOT SLOW. pretty lame what people have been writing. clearly don't know what they are talking about. never had any little boy racer cars pass me. saxos and golfs try to race me, but don't get near. I have no idea what my previous owner did to my car, but SHE FLYS. I have got big plans for her. the body, interior and engine is immaculate love it!
