I've had my 92 acura vigor for about three years. I have not had a single problem with this car, not even the brakes. This is by far the best car that I have ever had.
Thanks.
I have a 92 vigor. It has 105,000 miles on it and is running lovely. The only potential problem I see is that the ac motor may be very expensive to replace because of the location (behind the dashboard).I've had the timing belt change at 90,000m and have stayed on schedule for regular services. As long as you stick to the maintenance plan, vigors will run smoothly, well over 300,000 miles I must admit they are a bit expensive to maintain, but it is worth it. It's an ACURA!!!
I have had a 1992 Vigor GS for six years. It now has 141,500 miles on it. Just like a Honda it just keeps going! Do regular maintenance (timing belt) and it will go forever!
Basically an accord with a odd ball 5 cylinder engine crammed under the hood (and I do mean crammed). This has to be one of the most dreadful cars I have ever had the displeasure of working on myself. And unfortunately many things seem to fail frequently and are expensive to replace (see below). I am the second owner (first owner was my grandmother who stopped driving 3 yrs ago). The car has maintenance records an inch thick from when it was still under warranty. Currently has 65K original miles on it of which I have put 15K of those miles and I keep up on maintenance.
Honestly there is nothing that appealing or extraordinary about the vigor to warrant such good reviews. It gets relatively poor gas mileage (16 city 25 high way). Really not that fast (8 sec 0-60), uncomfortable (non height adjustable seats), rough riding.
It is EXPENSIVE to fix (not a car for the do-it-yourselfer as the engine compartment is overly crowded). Example, to change the oil cooler gaskets (common leak point) and a 1 hr job in a regular car takes 6 hours on the Vigor. As unbelievable as it sounds you must remove the battery to change the distributor cap and rotor! Apparently the engineering team designing this car hadn’t considered that someone would actually need to repair it someday!
Problems that are the most uncommon on other cars seem to plague the Vigor. From electrical issues that are intermittent (main relay, a/c system, security system, etc.) and odd mechanical issues (oil cooler gaskets leaking at 60K?, master Cylinder at 65K) this car takes the cake in my book as one of the WORST cars I have ever owned.
It’s not much of a wonder why this car was only made for 3 years. And to those who had such great things to say about the car I wonder if they are up to date on repairs or have ever attempted to fix the car themselves. (It is a 14 year old car and I would assume most of the current owners will be tackling most repairs).
There are FAR better used cars you can buy for the money, so if you still insist on purchasing one think twice, actually talk to some mechanics about repair cost, and consider other options.

92 acura vigor
65,000 miles
The reason this car was only in America for three years had nothing to do with reliability. After all, there are tons of best sellers in America (Cavalier, Chrysler minivans, etc.) that are absolute crap.
The Vigor was simply an average car with a horrible name and so was overlooked. It also wasn't clear where this car fit in - was it a 5 series competitor? 3 series? Mercedes alternative?
When new it did have a reputation for being reliable, although I guess your grandmother proved that not to always be the case.
I have a 1994 Acura Vigor. Runs great, but I have done some major work to it. Head gasket, struts, major tune up, ignition set and switch, engine and transmission mounts just to name a few. The vigor is a high maintaince car, you have to keep up. I have two faults now on the vehicle, my check engine and ABS lights are on. Any suggestions. By the way I modified the car. Performance exhaust, total body paint without the vigor emblem (only the acura emblem stayed),alpine system powered by two alpine apmlifiers. I am in need of an after market cold air intake system. By the way I have 169,000miles on the car. Bought in 2001 with 83,000miles on it.
1992 Vigor:
This is my second Vigor, only because my first one was totaled in an accident (they hit me).
The Vigor is an incredible car. I received this one free in 2005 with 185,000 miles on it, and obviously neglected by the previous owner.
After much work, clean up and such (just sank 2 grand in misc stuff), this thing still drives like a dream.
As far as previous comments, this thing gets about 25 mpg... and flies. Considering I have had it to 140mph a few times, slowness is not an issue. I have no clue how people can diss this car.
A brilliant design and performing car. I'll never get rid of it.
I just bought my '92 Vigor 5 speed off a friend my father knew for quite cheap. It has over 280 000km on it, and it still runs pretty good.
There are a few problems with the gearbox. Ocasionally 2nd gear pops out if you rev it too high. Also the ac doesn't work and there is a knocking in the engine. Overall it is a nice car and a big improvement from my first (89 Ford Probe, ha-ha, they stink, the auto transmissions are garbage).
My suggestion is buy this car from an old lady because it is no problem to drive these cars fast! I've already buried the needle (that's 240km/hr) and its got +280k on it. That in my book is insane!!
I have an Acura Vigor GS Auto, 230k miles, just bought it and within a month, my gasket is damaged, any idea how much this one costs, including the labor?
I have had my 92 Acura vigor gs for 1 year this car has a few problems
1. 2 door handles were broke $100.00 each used!!
2. The leather doesn't last on Acura cars I had it redone $800.00
3. The cooling was a big problem always over heating thermostat, all rubber, total cost $950.00 and the worst part is $900.00 was the labor cost.
Other than all that the car runs really smooooth, fun to drive speed is good enough 0 to 90 is good 90 to 132 to slow, to fix that problem a simple $250.00 racing chip and cool-air-intake I topped out 155mph. This car is not reliable I hate this car, but I can't sell it its like a bad wife. if your gonna get an Acura Vigor get 93 I heard it the best one avoid the 92 and 94.
I have a 92 Acura Vigor with over 200k miles. The car will not start in Park. I have to start it in N and my ABS and maintenance light is on. Any ideas on what I can do to fix it, I love the car and the money isn't a problem, just need to know what is wrong with it. If anyone has advice, I'm all ears. Thank you.
My 92 Vigor will sometimes not go past 2800 rpm, and is sucking gas after I start it. 10 seconds later the Check Engine light comes on.
I have a 1992 Acura Vigor with more than 250k and it runs perfectly. I haven't had a problem since I bougth it this is the best car I ever drive.
