I own a 2001 Durango with 55,000 miles on it and so far I love it! Clear coners, Altezza tail lights, billet grille, tinted windows, ground effectts, 20" rims and a competition sound system! Everywhere I go people give me complements. I've owned three rx7's, two mustangs, and a cherry 72' Roadrunner! None of them have gotten me this much attention from the ladies! As for your minor problem I can almost guarantee it's a faulty fuel pump.

I believe the dealer is responsible. Because the problem happen if you change your oil in 3,000 mile or 10,000 mile. You must find a good additive that fights carbon build-up to go with your oil change. Remember sludge will past, carbon will block (oil pump). For the stalling Durango, you may have gotten some bad gas, try some water remover (not cleaner) just water remover. If the water remover don't work you need a mechnic.

First of all, if you're changing your oil every 7,000-9,000 miles, this is not good car maintenance. Also, every person that walks into the shop says they change their oil regularly and I can tell just by looking at the dipstick. I am a mechanic at a Dodge dealership and engine sludge is caused for a number of reasons that have virtually nothing to do with your oil anyways. Contaminants are deadly enemies of an engine. They enter with the air flow and are also generated by the friction of metal against metal. All durangos produced after 1999 are v-8 engines which recommend, but do not require higher octane fuel. If sludge is a problem the best thing to do is go up to plus and/or CHANGE YOUR AIR FILTER REGULARLY. I have seen some frightening air filters in my day and this cannot only cause sludge, but also poor fuel economy, lower horsepower, and a list of other problems. Also, probably the best piece of advice I can give you is to go and buy fuel system cleaner. Its cheap and works wonders cleaning your fuel injecters. All you have to do is pour it into the fuel tank with an empty to 1/4 fuel tank then fill it up.

Ugh. my '01 durango just started to miss third gear yesterday, on my way to pick up my mercury from the shop for a blown tranny. now the durango is in the shop for a new transmission. great. so in the past 3 days I've dumped nearly 7 grand into cars. other than that nothing has gone wrong with my durango.

I bought my now EX-wife a 2001 Durango with the 4.7 V8 back in 2003. It had about 35K miles on it. It's now 2008 and has 130K miles on it... The thing is a tougher than Marine battle armor :O). This is my ex-wife's car. She doesn't maintain it. She just puts in gas and stomps the gas pedal. She said that little light that looks like a motor has been on since 2005!!! She just put our doughers picture over it and forgot about it. OK it's an O2 sensor.

I Flush the engine every now and then and replace the oil ALL LOT with Mobile 1. The Durango has only been in the shop for the recalls and has outlasted my two Fords and our marriage.
