Hey..I'm an Irish boy.. driving 2001 HDi..black, body kit, debadged, lowered 60mm,17'' wheels, dump valve, remap 125bhp supposedly, but on the "to do list" to put it on the rolling road, I have beaten a standard 130bhp golf at 100mph..it made me smile!!! what is a bleed valve? why does my car whine a lot.. turbo ya??what is wrong with it? the car also makes a ticking noise when I put my welly down.. it stops ticking then round 3500rpm..what is it? sound.

LOL. You do realise that a dump valve won't work on diesel engines don't you??
NO.. special dump valves can be got for diesel engines.. they not like petrol one's cause there isn't enough pressure in the turbo to release them, so they have a little wiring to them, which helps them release when you lift off the throttle. Hard to get; I only found one crowd making them. Everyone else says they don't exist.

Hi, just bought a pug 306 d turbo, wouldn't mind getting a dump valve, where did you get that one from? cheers.
Both my 306 d turbo and current hdi have dumpvalves on them.
The place where they are both form is Dervdoctor in Ashbourne, derbyshire.
I have a 1990 honda civic hatchback, its the 1.6 vtec version, 150bhp, from a set of lights I left my mates 306hdi so badly I couldnt see his car in my rear view after 2nd gear.

Hey I've got a 1.8i 16v pug 306 meridian and am considering selling it for a HDi as I only get about 24mpg on a good day whereas the HDi's apparently give around 50mpg. my only concern is that the HDi will be a lot slower than mine.
I've been reading a lot of the comments on here and was wondering how much it costs to remap the HDi?? I'm test driving the HDi over the next week so if you know and can offer any advice on what you think I should do, then please post a comment soon! many thanks!
The remaps are usually around £500 pounds I think, this a very general figure. The peugeot isn't the only diesel capable of good speeds, the fabia vrs is faster than your peugeot as standard. It might be worth looking for quick standard diesels as by the time you have had the 306 remapped and then told your insurers it probably works out just as cheap to buy a better car. Other ones worth looking at are the MG ZR diesels they are faster than your car as well and get 50 mpg, or seat ibiza diesels. That is very poor mpg by the way, my brothers integra type R is 190bhp and does similar mpg, maybe a more efficient petrol would be an idea if you don't like the slower diesels.
Hope this helps.
The working of a dump valve on a diesel has nothing to do with low boost!. Diesels typically run WAY higher boost than standard petrols.
It's because it doesn't have a throttle butterfly, therefore you don't need to release the pressure, the sensor thing is only there to know when to open the dumpy on a diesel. It's completely pointless and if anything, will lose you power!.
A sneezing tractor springs to mind..

My brother has asked me to correct my point about his integra type R, as it actually does 28-31mpg on average. He was also shocked at your mpg as he thrashes his teg and achieves the stated mpg, so unless you're driving with the fuel cap open that engine is performing awfully.
Hello there, read all your comments and I have something to say:
There is a 306 HDi that is 110bhp standard. I've driven one. They are called a D Turbo S HDi (S meaning sport)...If you go to autotrader.co.uk and search the number plate in the HPI report bit, I will be proved right.
Any way back to the point, go to http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/277578.htm... that is the one I drove, as I was about to buy it, I noticed the clutch was very stiff, also the rev counter actually red lines at 7000rpm which I found quite tasteful... As I drove it, I managed to do 70mph in 3rd gear with 4000 rev's left!!! INCREDIBLE!!!
Another thing which makes the D Turbo S stand out is the engine cover. Whilst the normal 90bhp has a black cover, the Sport has a limited edition silver cover.
And the thing about the turbo boost pressure, I can safely say that Peugeot fitted 2 different turbos to the Hdi range... One was a KKK turbo, the other was a Garret T2 I think it was (the make I'm positive on).
Please enjoy.
A diesel engine cannot rev to 7,000 RPM. It is physically impossible! Unless Peugeot found out some way to speed up the combustion process which has eluded the finest minds from BMW, Audi etc.
5,000 RPM, give or take a couple of hundred, is your lot in a diesel.

Hence why it was limited edtion...I'm just telling you what I saw in the car. If you don't believe me then fine. But I've proved to you that there is a 110bhp 306 which everyone on this board says is not real, besides, why can't diesels rev to 7k? anything is possible is it not? People said that you couldn't increase the limit on petrols, well look at F1 cars, nearly 4 times as much as a normal petrol car.
Anyway if your looking to find a Sport hdi I wish you luck as that is the only one I've ever come across. It has AC and sunroof, which you only got the option of having one or the other, plus it comes with the leather seats as standard to what I have been told. Very quick car the sport is, could easily see off a sporty 1.6 or even a 1.8 16v car in my opinion.
The diesel is not ganna rev that high, did you really rev it upto 7000rpm or is that just what the counter went upto? Even if it did rev to that (which it doesn't) what would be the point as the torque peaks much lower down and so it would be quicker just to change early. In general a diesel does not need to be red lined to get max performance so what does it matter how high it revs, the weight, torque and bhp are what matters.
With 110 hp the hdi would still only achieve 0-60 inbetween 9 and 10 seconds so it is still only gonna be as quick as other diesels like one of the other posts suggested. Granted mid range pull is more where it counts in diesels, but 0-60 amongst diesels is easier to compare.
Some interesting ideas about chipping here...
I have standard 2001Y 306 HDI Meridian 65k. Recently found that in 2nd at low speeds (i.e. ~20mph) the car judders between 1800-2000rpm. Settles down above that & doesn't do it if you're accelerating at the time, but really annoying in town! Peugeot garage had it in under warranty & couldn't find any fault, but it's still doing it. Also, is it usual for these to lose power above ~3500rpm while pulling hard? Bit worried it may be the turbo... Thanks.
