Three of the four windows have failed in my '00 Elantra. the rear driver's side just failed. My driver's side has been repaired and looks like it will need it again. It hasn't failed, but you have to jockey with the window to get it to work at a reasonable rate of speed. I would be keenly interested in a class action suit. Has there been a recall on the windows that I am not aware of?

I have also had 3 of my windows break. The two rear windows broke first about a week apart. They were rolled up at the time and not being used! They just slid down and wouldn't roll back up. I opened the panel and used heavy duty ties to hold the windows up and planned on never using them again until just this week it happened to my front passenger window. I took it to the dealer and they wanted around $900 to fix all three. Of course I don't have it so I am getting only the front one fixed. After reading all these responses I pray that my driver side window continues to work.

I'm glad to know I'm not the only one. My passenger window went first and now my back passenger is slowly going... what next?

I just had my last window break as well. I am the original owner and my first window broke 1 month after the warranty. I guess I won't be buying another one.

My back seat windows have not worked since 2004, and now my driver side window is not functioning. The regulator on all these windows is the problem and the clip.

I have a 2000 Elantra and am having problems with my passenger side rear window also! Just driving along and all of the sudden feel air draft and see the window all the way down. Guess I'll have to take it apart and see if I can get it to stay up. I never really use that window anyways, but I'm afraid the driver's side is going to go out now.

Does anyone have a link to a good site detailing how to take the doors apart and inspect/replace the motor's?

1 rear window and the drivers side have quit working on my 99 Elantra.

Just 'piling on.' Our 2000 Elantra Wagon just had its second rear window fail, causing a combined $1000 repair which we're mulling. Even more frustrating, the mechanics say there's no way to fix them up.. We don't even care if they work or not, we just don't like the interior getting wet... Both rear regulatros dead, and we're now deathly afraid of the front ones going. The fact that all of these are 2000 shows a clear defect in manufacture, and our first one failed right out of warranty.

Argh... the driver side front window on my 2000 Elantra went about a year ago, and just this week the rear passenger side window went. Last year, I only had to get the regulator fixed on the front window, cost me around 180 bucks, but apparently in the rear windows the regulator and motor are all one unit so they have to replace both... $400. just great.

To make matters worse, the last time I went to the dealer to get it fixed, all my CDs were missing from the back seat when I got the car back. Never go to Millenium Hyundai in Durham, N.C. I will certainly never buy another Hyundai.

Just tonight, my 2000 Elantra front passenger window suddenly won't roll up. I rolled it down to hand a postal worker my IRS extension request and it wouldn't roll back up. My land line phone and new cell phones are dead so I can't call friends about this. Strangely, my DSL connection works. I only have approx. 45,500 miles on the car. The muffler has a problem, but after reading these complaints, I'm more worried about the window expense and other windows failing soon. I'm also worried about car theft. This really sucks. Do later Elantras have this problem?

Add me to the list! 2000 Elantra wagon with a rear window that doesn't work, although the motor still runs. I took it apart, and sure enough, the cables are hanging loose.

I too have a 2000 Elantra and have had 3 of the four windows fall into the door. I have used the packing tape method aswell. Other than the windows I have been very pleased with this car. It has 136000 miles on it and I would not hesitate to drive it across country. Anyway the windows suck.

I am 87 years old and bought a 2000 Elantra brand new in 1999. I have only put 25,000 miles on this car in 7 years and the only time I have opened the rear windows was when I hit the wrong button by mistake. Well recently my son drove the car and opened the rear windows - both of them failed in one week. When we took it to the dealership they wanted to charge $69 per window just to diagnose the problem. My son said that they have to know what the problem is cause we can't have the only elantra that had this problem and since there was virtually no use of the windows it had to be a faulty design or motor. The service man swore up and down they were not aware of any recurring problem with the back windows. They called me and said it would cost $375 per window to replace the window regulators. I feel I have been deceived and lied to after finding this website with the number of window problems reported and no one in my family will ever recommend or buy another Hundai product.

My 2000 elantra wagon has two rear windows which just decided to fall down one day. It seems a common problem. I have taped them and pray that my front windows continue to function. Did you say class action anyone?
