1999 Oldsmobile Intrigue 160K Miles Crankshaft Position Sensor Failure (Circuit A) Car drives fine and starts fine when warm, but starts rough when cold-requires accelerator to be depressed to start.

Hey, my dad has a 2001 Intrigue as well (got it in 2002 with 12000 miles) and it has around 60000 miles on it now. Get this; while under warranty we had the crankshaft sensor replaced. 1 year and 4 months later (after getting the car tuned, by the way) the car started stalling. They said we needed a new sensor and that the other one only carried a 1 year warranty. Called GM and since our warranty was up 3 months ago they don't want anything to do with us. We replaced the sensor, but guess whose car keeps stalling? You got it. We've had GMs in our family for 40 years; now I'm off to a Japanese dealer.

Have had a 2001 Intrigue GX for 2 years now. Great car. Haven't had to put any money into yet, but the transmission had hesitated when switching gears before. Stopped doing it all on it's own. And I have had the problem of the electrical system cutting down on power. All lights would go dim, engine would slow, everything seemed to nearly lose power for less than a second. Does it about a dozen times a month or so. But has not actually given me anything to fix. Good car though.

I have a 2001 oldsmobile intrique... my problem is that when the a/c clutch seems to click on my battery light turns on, then I loose all power and the car dies... does this mean my a/c bearings are bad thus dragging everything down with the motor?

I have a 2000 intrigue with a window issue. The windows go off the track or at times don't work and then will start working properly again. I had a previous Oldsmobile with the same issue. Every time I took it to the dealer they said I needed a new motor for them. I am trying to bypass the dealer and want to know how to access the inside to right the window. is this easy?

I have a 2000 olds intrigue that I financed 3 years ago with 46000 miles. It now has over 146000 miles on it. Shortly after I purchased it, I had to replace a sensor. After that, I had to replace two fuel injectors, a fuel pump, a battery, brakes and rotors (front/back) and another sensor. I'm still having problems with this car. It stalls, won't idle down, make noises, eat up brakes, burns a lot of oil, the speedometer screen went out, the passenger side window is extremely slow and there are several warning lights on all at the same time. I still have two more years to pay this car off and it's not worth even trading it in. It's been one problem after another. Oh! And the defrost system isn't any good. My windows stay fogged up whenever it gets cold or foggy. I take it to repair shops and the dealer I bought it from and all they want is... MORE MONEY! MORE MONEY!! MORE MONEY!!! I don't know what to do!!!

Had the same problem with the windows going off track. Not only did the front driver side window go off track, but the rear driver side window as well.

The clunking sound many owners experience comes from the intermediary steering shaft (from steering gear box to front rack) It needs to be lubricated, but this is a temporary measure... there is a new replacement part from Gm.

This is the worst car I have ever owned! I have a 98 base model intrigue and I realize this is a very old car that will undoubtedly have problems, but WOW! I have owned the car for exactly one year and have only been able to drive it for a total of around 4 months because it has been in and out of shops.

It began with the same shifting problem many customers report experiencing. I had to go in and have the transmission rebuilt which was not cheap. I've had repeated problems with the daytime running bulb sockets burning out. Immediately following the transmission, my car caught fire due to a rod in the steering column leaking. My windshield wipers either stick straight up and down in the off position or come off completely. Despite a $400 brake job, the brakes still grab and slip when I start to drive. The wheel sensor had to be replaced. The MAF sensor had to be replaced at over $300, that was fun! The horn wouldn't work, so I had to replace the entire airbag being as it is attached to the horn. The drivers window works only when it's warm outside, while the others are slow to go up and down. Currently I am without my car again because the power steering is whining and it is leaking coolant. There have been many other minor annoyances trying to repair this car, but far too many to recall.

I have to believe I purchased a lemon since I cannot imagine an entire model being so unreliable. I ran a CARFAX report on this vehicle, but I still ended up paying over $2000 in repairs... and counting. I've had no choice, but to keep the car well maintained and yet the day (literally) my car is repaired, something new breaks.

After growing up with Oldsmobile being the choice of the family automobile I decided to finally purchase one of my own. I have a 2001 Intrigue. I love it's power, look (both inside and out) and roominess, but expected a much better vehicle as far as wear and tear. I had a string of problems that ended with the crankshaft position sensor being replaced in 2006. The clunking front end when making a left turn is irritating. It burns far too much oil. The front end basically needs to be replaced. I am now experiencing starting problems once the car has been run and then stopped (example - running errands), hopefully a good tune up will solve the problem.

I must admit that I find it hard to believe that so many people are having problems with this car. I bought a 1998 GLS (3800) 2 years ago with 180 000km as my first car, and had nothing to replace but the alternator.

The car is now over 205 000km and it's still going great: no squeaking, noiseless interior, smooth and precise ride, great handling, astonishing fuel economy (38MPG - 7.6L /100km).

I tried many 2008 models from different brands, and honestly, the only car on the market with better fuel efficiency, handling, ride quality and noise dampening is the Buick Lacrosse. The Camry was OK, but the Accord was way worse. The Malibu is also an acceptable replacement.

Anyway, I love this car and think it's worth giving it a new high quality paint job as this car is really reliable and dependable. I can't see why I would buy a new car at the moment.

I own a 2002 Intrigue GLS Great Car. I bought one for my daughter, we liked it so well I bought one. I feel sorry for all you who have spent so much money on windows, brakes, crankshaft sensors, water reservoirs. For windows to work properly it is good to spray some silicone in the channels occassionally. I replaced a front hub unecessarily for $80. plus an hours work. It was a broken wire to the ABS sensor. I replaced a window regulator, drivers side for $50. plus 1 hours work. You can save a bundle by buying a few tools, a scanner for around $60.00 and a service manual. Both Intrigues have around 90,000 miles and going strong. In my opinion, best car for the money, especially with the stainless steel exhaust system.

I own a 2001 intrigue and have had the tranny replaced at 20,000 miles. Now at 40,000 miles it is shifting hard. The dealer says it is a solenoid in the tranny that is bad. Cost to fix is 500.00. I also have intermittent flickering of lights since new. GM says this is normal for car. I bought car new and now my drivers window is not going down like it should.

What a pile of junk. I see why Oldsmobile went out of business after producing this car. Bought the car with 110000 miles and the engine 3.5L needed replaced. Then it was all 4 struts (OK wear item), 3/4 of the courtesy lights do not work in the radio and heating controls.

The dimming headlights is due to the secondary air injection motor located in the left front fender. Mine went out twice about $160 apiece. The airbags occasionally work. Front end clunks and this is the worst car in the winter. The back end locks up without any reason and tries to pass the front end.

What a money pit. I should have stuck with a Buick.

I take it from the reviews that the hard shifting is corrected by replacing the crankshaft solenoid/sensor? Is that right? If not, can someone tell me what does fix it? Thanks. I too have the Service Engine light on but it is intermittent. Sometimes it goes off and all is well for months at a time. Even the hard shifting only happens occasionally. Had the window prob. as well where passenger side would not go back up. Seems to be OK now though. Would like to get these things fixed, but it sounds to me like the repairs cost more than the car is worth!
