2004 Nissan Maxima SE.

At 98,000 miles Vehicle starts to jerk forward when I accelerate and jerk backward when I hit the brakes and when I turn and accelerate. Also, when I pull into a parking spot and then back out then put the vehicle in reverse - the vehicle jerks forward, so I keep my foot on the brake until it jerks forward.

I’ve been to the dealership monthly for 7 months this year, 2008. I contacted Nissan USA and they offered me a discount to have the transmission replaced. But, Nissan USA is faulting me because I complained about the jerking before 100,000 miles and after my warranted had expired at 100,000 my comments were not noted on all my Service Receipts. I explained to Nissan USA that I only take my Vehicle to one Nissan Dealership and I communicate with the same Service Advisor. My vehicle was put on a Transmission machine to be tested, whereas as it still did not return any negative transmission codes. I keep stressing to my Service Advisor that something is wrong with the vehicle. But, the Technician on every visit was not able to detect the problem. Finally, I requested to communicate with higher management. The Service Manager drove my vehicle and was able to detect that I have transmission problems, now that I’m over 100,000 miles. I express to Nissan USA that I, the owner shouldn’t be held responsible for what the Technician couldn’t find prior to 100,000. I feel that I have a strong case along with my service receipt documentations to go to Legal Council. Nissans are not cheap vehicles and my situation (new Transmission) should be rectified by Nissan USA.

I have a 04 Nissan Maxima SL, and it's making a winding noise when I accelerate. If anyone's car is making this noise and found out what the problem is, please email me at jaestarr3@optonline.net

I'm really upset that it's making this noise with 45000 miles on it, but only when I accelerate it's a winding sound. Please help, this is driving me crazy.

Hi...

I've experienced the following issues with my Nissan 2004 Maxima SE and have done the following to (try to) resolve them:

1. Tire issues (side wall cracking) - there was a recall for this through Goodyear. I received a letter similar to this --> http://www.autosafety.org/uploads/phpRjjLpA_GoodyearServiceCampaign.pdf

2. Right front end 'knock' - after a hefty labor bill, it was determined that it was a faulty wheel bushing (not a cheap part ~$300).

3. Transmission 'bucking' - I've filed a complaint with Nissan Consumer Affairs (800-647-7261) & NHTSA (http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/ivoq/#vehicles).

4. Steering wheel 'shimmy' - I still experience this from time-to-time, but I've chalked it up to tire inflation (or deflation). I experience less/no shimmy when keeping a psi on the low end of the suggested spectrum.

I'm speechless!! I am having the same transmission issues as described in previous posts. Purchased my 2004 Maxima 3.5 in February 08 and almost immediately noticed the jerking problem - amongst others (sunroof doesn't close properly if not in vent position, CD player skips to the next song before finishing, have to manipulate the driver's side auto window roll up and once, while it was cold outside, when the driver's side back door was open, I couldn't open the front door...).

I was told that I would need a transmission flush - did not go through with it, instead they "topped off" the fluid and said I really shouldn't need the flush until 60k miles. I'm at 53 now.

I, too, will file a complaint.

I have a 04 Nissan Maxima with around 90k miles on it. I am having the same issues that every one else is with the jerking from 1 to 2nd, and 2nd to 3rd, and it happens more when accelerating with the brakes. But it seems to get worse when the car is warmed up. I have no lights on in my dash to let me know that there is a problem.

I took my vehicle to the dealership on Friday, August 28th. I let the manager ride with me to feel what the car was doing. He definitely felt the car shifting hard and said something was wrong. I left it to have a diagnosis test done, and after $104 later to tell me that they didn't know. I talked to the technician that drove the car. He did not know what it could be. The only thing that they would suggest was to have the transmission flush. I told them that I already had the transmission flushed at a transmission shop a couple of months ago. And that did not seem to help the problem. So they said maybe I needed it done again. So I let them flush the system again. I got the car back and this did not help either. Now they tell me that my transmission is not serviceable. So I will have to buy another one which is $3300 + tax.

I have contacted the National Highway Safety and filed a complaint. I am the 79th person to file a complaint on the same power transmission problems for the 04 Nissan Maxima. I am very frustrated with the problem and not knowing what it wrong really bothers me. I am not sure how many people it takes to get something done, but with all the comments and complaints here and at the Highway Safety board, something needs to be done. We all pay good money for a dependable car and now I will not only have a car note to make, I will have a $3700 bill to pay back also.

Amazing. Didn't take long to find others with the exact same problem I have. Took my 2005 Maxima to the dealer yesterday for the slipping/slamming transmission problem. After two hours they said they couldn't find anything. They said just drive it, those things are bulletproof. WTF?

I just bought my daughter an 04 Maxima, three days ago. When we went to test drive it the dealer pulled it up to the door. Now when it starts first time every day it makes an awful noise so I wonder if the dealer was aware of this and that is why he pulled it up to the door. I am wondering if it is the start of some of the problems I am seeing here. If I had seen this board I would NEVER have bought it. Nissan needs to address this. When my Honda Odyssey transmission went at 89K miles, Honda replaced it for free and provided a rental car free while my car was being repaired.

I have had my 2004 Maxima for just over 2 months. Now the ABS system is always on no matter if I'm driving, or standing still. I am in the process of having the rear left speed sensor replaced.

I am wondering if anyone else has had these problems. Please get back to me @ d1stant1@hotmail.com.

Just gotta say Nissan is a horrible car company with no clue on customers satisfaction. Please do not buy a Nissan Maxima, they are just like any other american made vehicle - GARBAGE.

Joining the transmission club. I also own a 2004 Nissan Maxima SE and its not sitting at a transmission shop. The car starting bucking and jerking especially during a down shift. Today it barely moved out of gear. At one point w/the gas pedal flawed I barely moved at 5mph and the check service engine light came on. Granted I have 120k miles on it and cars do not last forever but I am shocked at how many of us are in the same boat.

I will go through this list and add myself to any action that someone else has already started. We do not want to end up like Firestone victims.

I have an 05 Nissan Maxima, and I have been quite impressed with Nissan throughout my experiences.

I am also experiencing transmission problems. I then had a Nissan dealer look at it, and 106 dollars later they said it was my motor mounts with a recommendation of a transmission flush and a fan belt. I then asked them if I fix the problem will I have the transmission problem? Reply NO.. 600.00 after and I'm still feeling an occasional KICK like somebody hit me from behind, and they say they cannot fix it because the car is not throwing codes, and I cannot make this happen in their presence. I am disappointed with Nissan.

I too have a 2004 Maxima (this is my 4th Maxima). I love my car but have had the same issues with the transmission with the jerking. I have had my rotors turned twice, and bought two new sets of tires, The violent shaking is terrible. I hope Nissan will step up to the plate, and help us out with our problems, all these posts are about the same problems with their product. If any anyone has any results, please email me at janis@phillipstax.net

Thanks, Janis.
