I own a 97 sst black with silver stripes and don't think I could have asked for a better truck the only problem that I have ever had with it is that the freeze plugs had to be replaced on the motor and this truck has 120,000 I have made a few mods to the truck including lowering it which seems to turn a lot more heads now but as an overall statement about the truck, I love it and will not ever be sellin especially seems how I plan on droppin a 360ci 400hp motor in it sometime soon.
Got my 97' SS/T, red silver, March 06. Searched 6 months before finding it. Was an all original truck inside and out. When the front mount rubber started failing along with the brakes I went to a 2" drop, drilled rotors up front, and all new suspension rubber, and Blistine shocks. No no I don't drive 70 miles every day to work at 80mph+. Rock solid handling, on rails. Heat started climbing last summer so swapped out all the cooling system for new stock. Also added a basic tranny service, new stock cats, and Toyo tires. All these SS/T stories and no other Toyo's. They are THE best handling and looking that fit the rims and near cheapest. 120k miles. Want more power, but haven't looked into it. Replaced a lot, expected, but still spent less than half of a new truck. Love every thing, sound, handling, looks, everything.
1997 dodge ram ss/t
got my truck a few months ago I love the truck
i put some 22's on it with the stock ride heightit looks great, though sometimes I still miss having a 3/4 ton with a full lenght bed maybe i'll just buy a crappy truck for doing crappy things cause I don't want to scratch this truck!
97' ram SST my first love. done mods to engine and transmission, interior and exterior. it runs 13's in the quarter at 110 mph
have yet met a person that hasn't liked it. I believe the best sports truck ever made... it's the charger of trucks..
I bought my 1998 SS/T brand new. It's black with silver stripes. It has 55,600 miles on it. The bed is still like new. I still love the truck after 9 years. I would like to replace my 1990 Dodge D-350 dually, but it would require selling the SS/T. So, I guess I will endure the D-350 for a few more years because I can't even imagine selling the SS/T.
I had a few paint problems and a bad headliner soon after I bought my SS/T. Right after the warranty ran out, the transmission wouldn't shift to first gear. I recently replaced the factory catalytic converter because it rattled like crazy. The only modifications are the Magnaflow cat and a K&N air filter.
I have a 1997 dodge sst black/silver that I also plan on keeping 4 ever. It has 80,000 miles now and has been pretty much trouble free. However I have to replace my catalytic converter for the third time. It starts off with an annoying rattle. I got stuck with my truck tonight because I couldn't rev over 2 grand because the exhaust became so restricted. Has anyone else encountered this problem? Has anyone tried any other exhaust? I don't want to lose the great sound the truck has so I will probably go stock again unless someone has had great results using an aftermarket product.
I have had my 98 SS/T for nearly 3 years now. When I bought it she barley had 30k miles on it and not I am just over 42k.
I have added a few mods:
duel exhaust
52mm throttle body
CIA K+N gen II
and I absolutely love my truck (besides the gas mpg) but if I wanted mpg I would have bought a ricer!
When I get back from deployment I will be adding longtube headers, high flow CAT, and getting a custom flash on the ECU.
While waiting on getting the ECU back I want to pull out the intake manifold an have it port/polished - with all above mentioned I should be running in the high 14's possibly low 15's.
I would definitely recommend this truck to anyone - look great run great and have a lot of potential.
Skip porting and polishing of the stock intake and spend your money on the Mopar M1 or the new Edelbrock Air Gap for Magnum engines. The belly pan gasket is notorious for blowing out on the 5.9 and leaking oil into the intake. I just purchased my 98 SS/T white with blue stripes back in September. Aside from having 140K miles on it, needing new brakes all around, needing new carpet, headliner, seat foams and a fresh paint job this truck is awesome!! I drove it back to GA from FL and every time I stopped for gas I had folks asking me about the truck and how awesome it looked and sounded. I recently sold my Dakota R/T club cab, which had the same 5.9 in it and it would run the 1/4 in 14.7 with M1 intake, Mopar PCM, K&N filter and a ram air hood, the suspension was Hotchkis with BFG Drag Radials. I'll be doing the same mods with the SS/T after it has some basic maintenance is performed. I have created a new message board for all that may be interested, just cut and paste the link http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/Ram_SST/
Hey guys, I just bought a 98 sst white with the blue racing stripes. basically everything on it and in it is stock. I have no problems with anything its just I would love to make it a little louder (which its already pretty loud) and would love to get a little more HP from my motor. got any suggestions, and I aint no millionaire so anything cheap?? or cheaper?? I thought about cutting the CC and seeing how much louder that makes it, but I'm not sure, give me some help.
I have a 1998 Red SS/T, 25000 miles (2nd owner) great truck. Everything is stock except a drop in K & N. Not as much power as my former 96' Indy, but it had the R/T package. Low mileage trucks like this are rare. Would not think of selling for less than $15000.00.
Hello, I just recently bought a 98' SS/T, red with silver stripes and so far it's been wonderful. It's not my daily driver vehicle, so it's an excellent weekend vehilce. How much horsepower does this truck have? I was told 245, anyone know the stock torque. Mine has 95,000. I bought it for $5000. Best deal on large truck, 1998 special rare edition, with 95,000!!! Special truck even if it will develop problems in the future. Love it.
Hey, I bought a 98 SST black with silver stripes... had 129 thousand on it. I bought it for 2 grand. Only got it that cheap because my friend's uncle was trading it in and that was what they offered him..
I bought it with a flowmaster exhaust. I put a mac cold air intake on it and summit headers. (shorties). I want to put long tubes on it and maybe a new exhaust? Need some power out of the truck.. want to make it a little faster but it won't compare to my Mustang. LOL.
I love the truck! Anyone help? I'm not rich so cheaper would be nicer haha thanks.
