I have a Cirrus that just dies out of the blue, on the highway and you name it. Probably some people have lost their lives driving this weapon, though Chrysler seems to over look the problem. This is too much of coincidence. The bottom line is Chrysler needs to be sued.

I have the same problems; I tried the same things: new plugs wires, distributor, and rotor. I took it to the dealership three times. They had me come and pick it up, stating that it was ready. On the way home I started it so many times that the starter went out. So my lemon is currently dead in showguns parking lot. 1500 in repairs and rentals and still no transportation. D'oh!

I made the previous comment in Nov., 07 about the oil light coming on...well...check engine light just came on. Hoping it had something to do with the oil light I took it to my local shop to check it out. Well... computer says all my cylinders are misfiring!! What the heck is that? It wouldn't give a significant code. Car runs fine so long as I warm it up for about 5 minutes. I'm not putting money into this car so I've decided to just use it until it dies out. 2 years ago the entire head gasket was replaced and a new solenoid put in. That's it!!

Why has this car never been recalled???

I have a 98 Chrysler Cirrus. I got the car in 2000 and have driven the car until June of 07 with no problems, when it just died. Since then it has been a circus. I have put a lot of money into this car and the Check Engine light just came BACK ON! My biggest mistake was having the car towed to a "professional" garage. They should call themselves professional parts changes/chargers, because that is all they do/are! They kept my car for over a month (twice) telling me that they could not find the problems, then mis-diagnosed the problems, then sent me home with a badly running car with crossed plug wires! I had too many repairs to list, that I think were not necessary now!

My suggestion to everyone: get your own OBD II tool and learn to use it. It might not be fun working on your own vehicle, but it will save you time and effort and a lot of money on the long run. I know that is what I plan on doing!

I don't understand how this car just DIES!!! Out of the blue with no warning! I just made the second to the last post and since then the car ran fine, so long as I warm it up. I live in NJ so it's been very damp and it's those conditions that it seems the car runs the worse!! So I warm it up for about 10 to 15 minutes. now without a problem until again today... warmed it up and then it just died... started it back up and it was fine. Thank god I wasn't on the highway!!!

I bought the car in 2004 and besides fixes here and there the worse has been 2007 with the car just dying out.

I don't think this car knows what's wrong with it because my mechanic can't get a definite code either. My check engine light is still on, but not flashing. How can all cylinders be misfiring and it still runs??

I just bought a 1999 Chrysler LXI in March 07 and since then I've taken the car to the dealership 4 times. I am having the same problem with the car just stopping on its own without any warning. Its been doing that since July and no one seems to know the problem. We had a new sensor put in, a new distributor, new wires, and it is still stalling out. It is currently still at the dealership and now they think its the bellhouse. The bellhouse holds the sensor and they are saying that is the problem now. I guess I'll find out.

I cannot get over how many of us are having the same EXACT problem!

Why hasn't this car been recalled? What are they waiting for; somebody getting killed when the car just dies out and someone gets rear-ended?

I considered myself lucky to buy my 99 cirrus lxi with 170K miles on it, for a low price of $500.00 The previous owner told me about the problem of it dying on me just out of the blue, and that it would start right back up.

I've had the car a month and it has done it to me once. I tapped on the gas pedal a couple times during it dying on me, and it seemed to kick back on and off, so I am lead to believe it is either a fuel issue or a sensor issue. I have read all the other comments and have very similar issues. I just don't want to dump a whole lot of money into it, considering it should be a recall. I couldnt imagine it stalling on me at an intersection, since it only stalled on me on the highway and only after going over 60-70mph.

I was about to replace the fuel filter ($25) myself, until I found out what a pain it is to do.

I'm hoping this problem is minor, but after reading all the other comments prior to this one, it looks as if I'm in for a crummy ride.

I own a 1998 Cirrus LXI with the gold package. I bought it in 1998 with only 1500 miles on it (repo). It now has 130,000 miles on it and to date it has been the best car I have ever owned. Drives great has decent power even when I am hauling my motorcycle on its trailer (1998 Suzuki GSX-R 750). Made 4 trips from North Carolina to California with the trailer in tow. She purred all the way! I did lose about 100 miles per fill up because of the trailer. I do wish it had a little more stopping power. The brakes have always felt mushy. I have to have good following distance or I will be in some ones back end. I have had minor problems as mentioned above, like the oil light coming on when I am idling. When I tap the gas the light goes out and the oil pressure hand returns to normal. I did have it checked out and had the sensor replaced a couple of times, but the problem is still there. A couple of years back (6 years) I did have an electrical problem that stalled the car out and wouldn't start, but took it to the dealer and they got it right the first time, wires crossed and cause a short, smelled like burnt electric wires for about 2 days. (Warranty covered that). Last year the gas pedal did fray while in New Jersey and I could only do about 45 mph. The problem was under the hood where the cable connects to the engine. Cost me $270.00 to get that fixed and a 3 day wait seeing that no one had the part in stock. All this while on vacation so I had to rent a car.

Now the latest problem has something to do with a loud deep rubbing sound coming from the wheels or what I was told is that the seals in the arms that hold the tires on (can't remember the proper name) need to be replaced, but they can't just replace the rubber seals. They have already tried that process in another Cirrus. I have to buy the entire arm because it's all one piece and at $276.00 an arm with 4 hours labor $85.00 an hour I am looking at about $900.00 for the replacement. I had the seal replaced for the radiator that started to leak some where under the engine. It was and easy fix, the labor got me though because of the placement of the seal.

All in all I guess I can't complain. The car has been a blessing in disguise for me. With the car being 10 years old and these minor problems I guess I can't complain. I am going to drive the car into the ground if it will let me. If I start to encounter the engine stopping out of nowhere problem she is a goner. I love that car and she has treated me right. Lasted a lot longer than I truly expected (sorry Chrysler). I wish you all the best with your Cirrus'. I truly don't know what I would do with out mine. Still in great shape in and out, oh yeah I forgot the radio has a mind of its own. You turn the knob up the volume goes down. Turn the knob down the volume goes up when you can get it to respond. The CD player jumps back to the same song when you try to forward to the next song, but all an easy fix of buying a new one.

I'm glad a lot of you are lucky enough to have a lot of miles at least until the problems started. Mine only has 52,000 miles and it just dies out. I bought mine in 2004 and am the second owner. Thank god the original owner had an extended warranty because the head gasket and solenoid were already replaced. I truly feel I bought a lemon!

The oil light still comes on and off and the check engine light is on. As I mentioned earlier, when I took it to the mechanic the code said all my cylinders are misfiring which I don't get since the car for the most part runs fine, but I have to warm it up for about 15 minutes. I definitely can't run the car from a cold start.

I think very soon I'm going to get rid of it because I can feel it now needs brakes and it needs new tires. I actually disconnected the battery and now the check engine light is out, but I'm sure it will come back on and I know it won't pass inspection when it goes this July. If that oil light decides to come on then for sure it won't pass.

I own a 1999 Chrysler Cirrus LXi. Multiple times it has shut off while in drive and moving anywhere from 0-60 in most cases. The RPM or tachometer (I think) needle will flat line to zero, will be the tell tale sign, followed by the oil lamp or light and power steering will go and power brakes. I've sat for over 15 minutes on occasion for a restart, and experienced a "No Bus" text come up on the mileage display. I thought initially it was because of rain, but now does it all the time. Tomorrow I'm off to said dealership or mechanic with my info in hand, with the desperate need of an explanation or a fith' a Goose (you know).

I was almost killed and lost my car on a particular rainy night coming home from work.

I've read on the internet that it's faulty wiring from either PCM, ECM, or fuse box. Since no one has mentioned that really so far.

I'm FED UP!

I HATE American cars as the two I've owned (only cars, I'm 23) have cost me literally thousands and have lasted less than they're worth for sure. If this is the threat of faulty laboring with rush jobs and less human interaction on assembly lines, then these big Industries (Daimler/Benz/Chevy/GM/SATAN) need to feel the same life and death struggles as we middle class hard working Americans DO behind the wheels of their death machines. Like I paid thousands to die because the cars defective, no thanks.

BAD DEAL.

I can't wait to purchase a nice Toyota or Honda. Reliable 200K machines. No wonder our economy sucks, AS AMERICANS WE HAVE NO WORTH IN THE QUALITY OF OUR WORK ANYMORE.

I finally got fed up with mine and got rid of it. My car always just died whenever it rained and it's been raining so much here in NJ that I couldn't take it anymore. It truly is like riding a death machine!! To top the decision was the fact that the check engine light came on and I refuse to find out what it is and to have it fixed.

My grandfather was getting rid of his 2000 Infiniti I30 so I bought it. It's been so nice to finally have a car I don't have to warm up for 15 minutes before I take off!!!

I'm still surprised and shocked that this car has not been recalled.

1999 CIRRUS LXI. 78K just started to die. Sounds like I'll be selling it. Any takers? I know better than to by this brand of car. Thought I got a great deal at 63K. Back to try out GM. At least I can replace parts myself on most makes for now there.

Cirrus

Still Dies

Oil in spark plugs = Valve cover gaskets

Need a tow

New wires and plugs

Tranny Leak

Aparantly there isn't a mechanic that knows anything

Good luck...

I have a 1999 Chrysler Cirrus and have had a ton of problems with it. The most recent would be the car just quiting. I got the NO Bus code. After weeks of every machanic telling me it was something different and spending quite a bit of money I finally took it to the dealer. It was the fuse box which ran into around about $800.00. Now I'm having problems with the brakes going to the floor if it idles.. like something is getting too hot. The front driver wheel is grinding, had the brakes and rotors changed with no help. This car is driving me crazy!!

I have a 96 Cirrus that started stalling out while driving. One thing I did find to get it started again is to take off the red battery cable for about a minute or two to reset the computer. Then I will spray some carb cleaner in the fuel port (you'll need a wrench for the battery cable and a flat head screw driver to undo the rubber boot that connects to the air cleaner), spray it in and start the car with you foot all the way down on the gas. This does not fix the problem, but may save you a tow. It also sucks to keep tools and carb cleaner on you all the time to keep your car running.

I had talked to one mechanic who has work a lot on these cars, and has told me it is could be the crank shaft sensor. (I replaced that today. We'll see if it works.) Or its the distributor. I think this car is junk, but I need to get a 2 more months out of it. Well if any thing I hope I can save some of you who bought this death trap a tow truck call. Good luck; I know I'll need it.
