Theres always the option of the GTi 180 a 180bhp version of the GTi costing £15,220 and reaching 60mph in a mere 7.3 seconds. Don't be lulled into thinking this is merely a bog standard 206 GTi with a hotter engine. The GTi 180 takes things considerably further.
In regards to this car, I placed an order for one prior to its release nearly 2 years ago. The order was subject to test drive (meaning if I didn't like the drive I get my deposit back). I drove the car at the asquith and johnstone dealer in sydney, and within 2 seconds of driving it, I didn't like it. The pedals are seriously close together, making the car very irritating to drive. The seating position is awkward, and being 6'2", I felt very uncomfortable in it. I do love the look of the exterior, but in the interior left me cold. As for the performance, well the handlings great, but the engine really disappointed me (I have driven a secon 206 gti 180 which did go harder, but not much more, and it's a worry that there can be a difference in performance, almost like a lucky dip. My friend who was in the passenger seat, got bored very quickly, and we returned the car within 5 minutes. I agree with the review autospeed. com gave the car, and I too felt this car would struggle to break 8.5 seconds from 0-100km/h. I consequently bought an evo 8. I drove a friend of mines holden astra sri turbo, which is the same as the opel GSI turbo, and by god does that thing go, in stock form he runs 14.65 1/4 miles, and since modifying it, he does in the mid 13s and can actually kick my evos butt on the road, as I am not willing to clutch bomb my car from 7000rpm just to beat him. Those cars are great, and roomy for big guys, they have loads of features, including full black leather (my evos interior is basic and cheap), and are a great day to day driver. Sad thing is they are not made anymore. I know over here in australia the won the bang for your bucks award (meaning the best performance car for the money). I like the new clio 182, its more like a 206gti 180 due to its size and aim, but it is quicker in a straightline then the pug, and handles beautifully, but is alittle impracticle, and rather ugly. I think the nicest new hot hatch is the brand new golf GTI, it doesn't look amazing, but it drives superbly, has quality written all over it, and has a great linear torquey power delivery.
Ill think you will find the best hot hatch is the vxr astra turbo.
All the cars above will get beaten by the Astra, turbo coupe what a great drive only thing wrong with it is the dash just to boring, but its cheaper than all the cars above and quicker bottom end and top mine does 0-60 in 6.7 and top speed of 152mph. I bought mine for 6k on a 51 pate in blue with 38k on clock full black leather and heated seats what a car. plus its so easy to tune up if you spend 2,500 you can get a 280bhp car and a turque of 300ft.
I own a limited edition sri 190 which is fantastic. its now chipped with other mods running at 247/273lb/ft.
Whoever said the astra coupe could beat all the above cars is havin a laugh, as this includes the evo 8, that like saying naseem hammed could beat mike tyson!
Obviously everything except the evo. very impressive car and highly tunable. can handle 260bhp safely without the need for a hybrid turbo (£700).up to 330bhp without the c20let 6 speed gearbox conversion, also needs a quaife lsd to improve power to tarmac and handling. can handle a lot of power if the internals are upgraded along with manifold, turbo, gear box, exhaust, lsd, chassis and suspension upgrade.
I own a Clio 182, but I read some of these comments with interest.
I'm not going to try and claim my car is the fastest thing on 4 wheels - it isn't, as proved when I was destroyed by a TVR Tuscan a couple of weeks ago.
However, all of these people who argue about which car is faster than the other, are missing the point slightly. So what if another car is faster. Do we really buy these things because they are the fastest? I doubt it, I know I didn't.
If you want to look at which car is fastest, buy a copy of Evo and look in the back, it will soon tell you which car is faster than another.
I bought my car because of how it makes me feel when I drive it. My car is built like a piece of crap, so I test drove quite a few cars recently in order to look for a replacement. I came away from test driving some pretty nice machines only to conclude that I am going to put up with my cars build quality because it made me feel like it was more fun than anything else I'd driven.
Looking at a copy of Evo tells me that a Clio 182 is about 1 second faster to 100 mph than a Pug GTI 180. So what? If the owner likes what the Pug does, then that's not his problem that someone thinks the car is crap just because it might be fractionally slower than the other.
Apart from anything else, a lot of hot hatches are much of a muchness. For example, in a straight line, I found out that my car is signficantly faster than a Fiesta ST, but I dare say around a twisty stretch of road, I would struggle to pull away by that much. In the real world, you need a huge power advantage to truly humble other quick cars.
I often go out for runs with guys with TVRs and suchlike, and believe me, they cannot get away on the twisties. On a racetrack? Yes sure, they'll get away. On a tight twisty road? Not a chance - my car is easier to drive fast than theirs especially on such terrain. On the straights? Yes, they'll pull away, but then I'll catch up again at the next set of corners - at the end of the day, theres only so much pace you can muster on a tight B-road.
And isn't that the point of a hot hatch? It's a car which can snap at the heals of even expensive machinery at realistic speeds?
Sorry for the long comment, but it just amazes me how many people just seem to completely miss the point. If all you want is speed, why not just get a turbo blandwagon like an Astra GSI and stick a big turbo on and remap it to death and drive it until it blows up?
Pug 180, had now for four months, love it.
The official Peugeot figure for the GTI 180 (NOT the old GTI 138) is 7.1 to 60 not 8.1 and that's with a passenger and luggage.
This car with no miles on it was slow, but it's hit 10k now and is far quicker.
Just to enter the hot hatch row, no other hot hatch will beat a clio 182 in a straight line or round a track and that is not an opinion, but a fact. I've come across many boy racers in all sorts of astras, coopers s, civic type rs and left them all standing.
You've left them all standing mate cos they weren't racing you.
I have had a clio 172 and a clio 172 cup (cup would beat 182) and have just got an astra sri 190 turbo, and that will beat a 182 and 172sport or cup all day long as I have owned both I should no and I have done it so like they guy with the big comment said wat does it matta any.

Same old cr@p on al reviews on this soite petty arguing I finfd it hilarious, your all trying to justify your moneys worth spent at end of day if aLL of them were put together would make a great car all of them have faults in one area
p.s mg zr ha ha ha get a life everyones laughing at you.
