DUDES!! Gimme a break. I own a 2000 Cavalier Z24 and I love it. For being a Cavalier, it's pretty well engineered. You have to look at gear ratios. You can cruise at 75 barely turning 2600 rpms in your cavy; that's never gonna happen in your stupid Mustang. I have seen a Baja Bug kill a 5.0 Mustang because it is geared so low; it murdered him through three gears.
The 2.4 ecotec motor makes great torque, and raps out very quick. I have handed plenty of people their crap in my car: 2007 Jettas, Neons, Hondas, Jeeps, trucks, and a few diesels on the freeway.
It's all about power to weight. Say you have a four banger making 400hp, and it weighs 500lbs, but if you have a V8 making 400hp and it weighs 800lbs, the four cylinder is gonna win hands down.
Dude my 5.0 is at 1800 at 70 mph and a cavy takes anywhere from 8 to 9 sec to 60 depending on year and that's from 96 and up my 5.0 hits 60 in under 6 seconds and when it was stock it would hit 60 in 6.4 and mines the heavy convertible cavys are slow deal with it my friend had a white 02 and I blew his doors of no more bs OK drive a 5.0 then tell me your cavy is faster.
I have beaten two mustang 5.0s in my dads beater sunfire GT, once off the line and once from a roll. That's pretty lame. The sunfire isn't fast at all, but it has decent power for a four banger. 5.0s are gust noise makers, they sound fast, but their not! I have driven fast cars before, I have a AWD GMC sonoma with a fuel injected 383 stroker and a 150 shot. 560 hp and 650+ ft/lbs with AWD is fast. A stock cavalier would never take a lt1 or ls1 powered camaro or TA or a newer mustang GT, but the old 5.0s are a joke. Sell your mustangs and buy a Cavalier z24, at least you will save money on gas.
I have a 02 z24 5 speed with cold air and full exhaust, my dad has a 02 camaro ss ls1 stock: on highway I had my car maxed out and he was passing me in 3rd gear with low revs, commmon ill admit is cavvys are a joke stop kidding with yourselves and admit it too.
OK people I have a 2000 z24 and I am very impressed with the car it is quite the little machine. Has some good power and a nice tight fit to the road. I have driven a mustang 5.0 and there is a big difference between the two. But for the money I have spent and the car I have got I am more ahead of the game than any mustang owner. But in the raw power department the 5.0 has it beat hands down and if you know how to drive there is no problem with hookup in the mustang. Those who say they beat there friends in there mustang tell them to get some driving lessons.
Look everybody I have a cavalier z24 2001 I raced against a jetta vr6 he smoked me without trying and that's a big car you people think that you can beat an iroc-z or mustang your dreaming I couldent even beat a v6 you think you can beat a v8
hello its 4 cylinders that's it.
I have a 2000 Z24 and love it. Just a few mods; cold air intake and cat back.
It is fun to drive and pretty quick. I would not say it's fast, but it's quick, especially up to 50mph. It won't beat a V8, but I beat my friend's 6 cylinder BMW from a dead stop, and would not be afraid to race any foreign piece of crap 4 cylinder. American all the way!!
I'm getting ready to get a 2000 z24 Cavalier and I don't think that it'll beat a 5.0 or a Camaro, but they have torque and are a lot better on gas, so while they're stopped at a gas station filling up, I'm gonna be crusin by in the Cavalier, so in a way they are better.
I have a 2000 Z24. It's a lightweight compact. That's it. It's not in the league of sports car. The Z24 badge is to make you pay for a slightly bigger engine and a badge. 150 BHP and 155 LB of torque is all you get. With an intake and an exhaust you're not going to get astronomical power out of it. Maybe 15-20 HP and that's pushing it. This whole thing is about how good the car is to have and to manage, not how it beats cars with over 250 HP. get a grip people. I love cars and I would love to have a Porche 911 turbo GT3 or a Toyota Supra or a Nissan Skyline. These are some of the real sports cars that you should be arguing about. Not compacts vs. 80's and early 90's sports cars. Cavaliers are good cheap cars. Why can't y'all just leave it at that. If you Cavy drivers want real power, then get a car with the power you want. If you can't afford it, then save your money for a new more powerful car. Quit trying to turn water into wine.
I have a 2000 five speed Z24 with a short throw shifter, custom dual flowmaster exhaust, an eagle engine kit and a stage 2 gm performance supercharger, performance shocks, rims, tinted windows, and a fiberglass bolt on scooped hood... It makes about 460whp...
I love it; it's my little Honda killer... If anyone ever tells me that my car sucks because it's American or just because it's a Cavy, I got an idea... Race me... I'm willing to put money on it... Just letting y'all know... I beat a 2003 supercharged Mustang the other day on the highway...
I had a 98 z24. I just sold it last week and bought a 94 v6 Camaro. The z could beat Integras and gs Eclipses and stock civics. I had a custom suspension and cold air intake, that was routed to the front bumper for extra air. These cars are underdogs. Everyone is quick to judge a Cavy.
I could get ahead of some v6s, but once they got some traction, I was toast. So, I don't see how anyone could beat a v8 in a Cavy without the use of a turbo or super charger. The stock 2.4 or even heavily modded -charger z engine could not hope to beat a v8, unless the driver did not know what they were doing or the car needed some serious work. Z24 Cavaliers are great cars and quick, and have lots of potential. I highly doubt a z24 could even beat my stock Camaro, let alone an ls/t1, or Mustang 5.0.
Your Camaro v6 only has 165 HP and your car weighs more than 2800 lbs. Of course a Cavlier Z24 is faster! My father's Buick Park Avenue would leave your Camaro in the dust.
OK the 0-60 time for a 5.0 Mustang fox body is 6.2 seconds. The 0-60 time for a 2000 Chevrolet Cavalier Z24 is, wait for it, 8.7 seconds. Hope that clears things up.
I have a 2000 Chevy Cavalier... I have headers, aftermarket exhaust, short ram intake, and some other goodies... I have 537hp..
I have no problem beating Camaros and or Mustangs... if you want you can even throw in Corvettes...
It's my lil sleeper... it's just dropped with a body kit rims and limo tinted windows... that's all you see... craps on imports and V8s... LOL... you can't see me...
