Automatic Transmission problem with Solenoid.
Our 2005 Altima, 2.5, has been a great car so far. We really do love it. Although, we had a little trouble recently with the auto transmission “thumping” during shifting between 1st and 2nd gears, while starting out or while traveling under 20 mph. We had hoped that a simple transmission fluid change would solve the problem. But no! The Nissan Dealer determined it to be the transmission solenoid that malfunctioned. Unfortunately, this car has 68K miles and is beyond the warranty period. It was an expensive repair and we wondered if this was an irregular malfunction or if there is an inherent problem with these transmissions.
Any others experienced this type problem?
2005 Nissan Altima Transmission problems.
I have a 2005 Altima that just started to have shifting problems. The car has 47000 miles and slams (hard) when shifting from 1st to 2nd gear.
I do not own an Altima. My sister is on her second one (2002 & 2005 2.5). He first one she traded in at 90,000 miles to buy the second one.
Now, as to the transmission problems, I had a simular issue with my 2000 Isuzu Trooper. I got the transmission filter changed and fluids flushed and it really smoothed out the shifting.
Another deal with the Trooper is we had to disconnect the battery for a few minute so the computer would "relearn" the new shift points.
I have a 2005 Altima. I have 80K+ already and it has not given me much problems. I have experienced the hard shifting, but from what I have read on many blogs, that seems to be common. There is however some clicking sound that happens around the gear shift when I step on the brakes, I took it in for repair and it was quite expensive somewhere around 300$ for parts and labor. I do hear a reduction in sound from the speakers while I'm driving (turning corners mostly) but so far no one can find the problem. My major disappointment is the color loss on several indoor trim. (around the button for storage compartment above the radio, trim around the window remote buttons and the trim around the gear shift (when its not blinding me) scratches very easy.
I have owned a 2005 Nissan Altima SE for almost two years. The only problems I've had with this car is the sun roof shade has to be closed manually now in stead of automatically. Other than that I have no serous complaints about the altima.
I'm having problems with my 2005 Altima. It seems the transmission or something is bumping when I put the car in cruise contol at around 50-60 miles a hour. It does it maybe every 20 seconds or sometimes vary. Its real light, but you can feel a small jerk like going into gear.
I have a 2005 Altima. It runs fine, but always pulling to the right. I went to the dealer and tried to align the car several times, but still pulling. So finally I put new tires and rotated to see the difference, but no result. Any suggestion?
I own Nissan Altima 2005, 2.5. I also feel the jerk when the gear changes automatically from 1st to 2nd, at around 20 mph speed... It's just got 30k on it so far, and I see "service engine soon" light ON for last 3 days since the car started giving such problems. How much should I expect to spend?
My 2005 Nissan Altima 3.5 SE DIED in the middle of a busy intersection last night! The transmission failed completely without warning. My husband and a could have been killed! It has 69K, but we have the extended warranty and it was towed to the dealership. It is a leased car and I will be glad to see the end of this lease.
I have an 05' altima and lately it has begun to have transmission problems, at least that's what I thought. When parked for a long time, like overnight, when started in the morning when i put it on drive, the gear would take a while to engage. I called the dealer where I purchased it from and they told me that it might be something to do with the battery connection.I'm taking it in for inspection and I will see what happens, if that's the case i'll pass on the info.
I have a 2005 Nissan Altima. I have had it for about 18 months. I started to have problems with the transmission, so I took it back to Nissan, because the mileage was over 60,000 miles they said the repair would be 2400.00 dollars, with the high price of gas and the car payment I just can't afford to have it repaired. I call the Nissan Corp. to see if they could even get me a better deal on the cost. The answer was a Big no. I now think that there is a problem with the transmission in the 05 Nissan Altima for the that matter in Nissan transmissions period. My uncle has a 05 Maxima the transmission has already been replaced. in the 04 my other uncle has had the transmission replaced. No more Nissans. Toyota here I come, my mom's Lexus a 95 Never had a problem. This is another time my Mother was right.
My '05 Altima is having the same problems as the first post. When the car is shifting gears it kicks really hard. It's still covered under warranty so I called dealership and they asked me to bring it in. Took it into the dealership and now they said they can't find anything wrong.
I have a 2003 Nissan Altima 2.5SL with 96,000 miles on it. The transmission started shifting very harshly between 1st and 2nd and the other gears. As suggested by Nissan Corp Customer Service, I took it to a dealership for diagnosis. They said the problem was the transmission solenoid valve assembly. They said the trans fluid was dirty and had caused the valve assembly to stick open. I checked the fluid level as soon as the problem started and it was clean and clear (not burned). I am wondering how a sealed transmission can get dirty, and if it did, why the dealership didn't change the transmission filter... It cost me $965.46 for repairs, and cost Nissan a loyal customer of many years. I own 2 Nissan vehicles now, and they are the last ones I will ever own. If this were the only problem I have had, I wouldn't be so upset, but it isn't. I also had to pay almost $300 to have timing sensors on the crankshaft and camshaft replaced (even though there was a recall on the problem). As far as I am concerned Nissan Motor Corp does not stand behind the products it makes, and will walk out from under a customer in less than a heartbeat. So much for the dependability of a Nissan, I would have expected this kind of dependability out of a Yugo except paid a lot less.
I've read several of the previous comments regarding Altima 2.5 and I too have similar transmission problems with my 59K miles, 2005 car. Automatic transmission shifting between 1st and 2nd gear kicks in with a heavy thud that reverberates throughout the whole body of the car. I have yet to take it in hoping I would be encouraged by reading this site and find a simple solution or a recall. Looks like this may be my last Nissan as well. I had a 1987 200SX that ran well for 7 years. My last car was a Dodge Avenger which lasted 149K miles. This situation is very disappointing. When I have it professionally diagnosed, I'll post the $ amount. By the way, I had my transmission fluid completely flushed and replaced about 4 months ago before any transmission thuds.
I have an 03 Altima that I took in to the Nissan dealer because of a recall on the sensor on the crankshaft. It would cause my car to die in traffic! But my car was also shifting very harshly (sometimes even lurching) while in between gears (especially 1 & 2) and my engine light was on. There was apparently another different recall that applied to my car too and they fixed that also. So I go to pick up my car and the mechanic says that the solenoid valve assembly needed to be replaced. That was why my car was lurching and shifting hard and if it was not replaced, and soon, it would ruin my transmission and then I would have to replace that instead. Of course that had nothing to do with either recall and would cost me $1500.00 for the parts and labor. (True that's better than the thousands it would cost to replace my transmission, but still that's a lot of money when you don't expect it.) They said the part was $900. A part that cost $900 sounds like a part that's not supposed to break. My car is not really that old, it has 86K miles, should I really be having this problem? I do love my car (its comfortable) but I'm not going to buy another one.
