And of course, the vauxhall corsa is not chavy in the slightest is it?
Hey,
I have been reading reviews about the 1.8 SRi now for a couple months and I am definately set to buy one in the summer. The only thing is I can't get detailed information anywhere on the cars' fuel consumption so id really appreciate it if owners could let me know how many miles they can get from a tank!
Also, I read about a few people who remapped there 1.8SRi to 150 bhp. If anyone knows more about this could they please let me know. I would like to know how much this costs and how it effects the fuel economy of the car.
Thanks.
I used to own the 1.8 SRi. I personally got 26mpg (overall)
The car is geared towards an impressive 0 to 60 time, but try racing a slower to 60 but more powerful car when rolling e. g Celica (140 bhp) and believe me, you will be embarrassed.
BTW you cannot remap an SRi to anything near 150BHP unless you are prepared to spend a HELL of a lot of money on mods.
I think the car struggles with traction from launch with the power it already has anyway, it was very very bad in the wet. The non switchable traction control certainly does not help matters either.
VX should have sorted the traction control and dropped the 2.2 litre Ecotec in there - then IMO it would have been a half decent hot hatch.

The corsa 1.8 SRI is a good car when you think about when it came out, its been out a while now. This car was launched just after the big quiet period when hardly any hot hatches were being launched in britain because spiraling insurance costs on hot hatches cos they were all being nicked. The 8 sec 0-60 sounds about right for what it is and I expect its better than a few other hot hatches at higher speed too. The celica would be faster than lots of supermini hot hatches, it comes under a different category.
I think for the type of money you are talking about get a civic vti. the ek type r with 187 bhp (only 30 more than a vti) keeps up with evos nsx's scoobys rx7s etc. if you go on youtube and have a look at some of the japanese battles. so if you can get a few mods for your vti it will be as fast as pretty much anything on the road.
Lucas.
For £200, you can get the ecu remapped to bring the cars power up to 141bhp.

Hi all I have owned a few fast cars from a vts to a p1 scooby, but I must say when I downgraded to a 1.8 sri, which was an absolute struggle to find I was shocked to find the fun when driving this car. I would tell any one out there, if you want a reasonably cheap nippie car GO FOR IT!
As for saxos, my vts was crap!, unreliable and thirsty too!
Apart from that it was FRENCH LOL (never again)
All this rubbish about the Saxo and 106 being a chav's car is silly!!
If anything the Corsa is in the same boat as the 106 and Saxo as they appeal to young driver's as they are cheap to run and insure (not the VTS, SRi and GTi of course).
In my area at least, everytime I go down the shops, there is alway's a Saxo or Corsa blaring out music and driving like idiots!!
You Corsa owners must be blind if you think your car can't be classed as a Chav's car!!! The Corsa replaced the King of Chav car status and that was the Nova!
Nothing has much changed!!!
And all this talk about French build quality make's me laugh as everyone knows it ain't the best (I own a 106 GTi) and is Vauxhall that much better?
I don't think so!!

First of all I'm not the person who said up above that you can get the cars power up to 141bhp with a remap of for £200, but I got my z18xe Sri corsa remapped in autotune, ballymena, n. ireland (I'm from n.ireland) for exactly £200, and guess what power my car is nw...141bhp!! Bit of a coincidence, but it proves to me that the guy who made the comment before was telling the truth! Jus wanted to point that out to the person who requires the ink! Also, is it jus me or is this not a corsa comments page? So could all you french car owners go to your own page instead of waffling on comparing vauxhall to citroen/peugeot cause no-one here cares!!!
I've owned my corsa now for about 13 months (05 plate 1.8 sri) and I have to say after the initial fun wears off the sri is not a bad little run about fuel consumptions not too bad about the same as the 1.6 punto sporting I had before it. I get about 320 miles to a full tank which I think its about 35 ltrs, but just watch it in the wet cos it bites and I'm on my second set of front tyres, but alround a great little run about.
I agree with the writer of the 7th May 07, with regards to none Vauxhall owners, anyway -
I'm intrested in this 141bhp with a remapped ecu, I own a corsa 1.8 sri and in the two years owning it have replaced the front tyres twice with the standard 123bhp. What traction do you get with 141bhp, and if any do you require additional adjustments to get the power on the road.
I've looked into the Courtney Turbo available for the 1.8 sri which works out to approx 3k, but without additional mods to the car I don't think is worth getting.
Do we think it may be worth investing in the new VXR rather than mods to the sri?
Very happy 1.8 SRI owner.

Hello I'm getting my corsa 1.8 sri in two weeks, reading the comments on here have put a smile on my face, can someone put a link up for the remapping,
I bought a 1.8 corsa 2yrs ago and have found it very good. I get on average 280 miles to a tank, but have to say I have a lot of fun driving in wales. great for a roads,a little out of its depth on the motorway. have 17 inch wheels and don't suffer with traction problems. a value for money car.
Hey pple! I have a corsa 1.8 sri. and it a nice drive n good fuel acconomy! my brother has a clio 182 sport and my mate has a civic type r! and I don't struggle to keep up! I would highly reccomend getting a corsa! I've raced many saxo vts's and I have always come out on top! to b fair the vts is a quick car, but doesn't compare to a corsa 1.8 sri! I love my car to bits n wouldent swap it for anything! e. g chavvy cars!lol. but at the end of the day its not the engine or car you have! its the person driving it!... if you want a fast enjoyable ride get a raptor 700 yamaha quad! more fun than a car!lol...sy.
