Just updated my 93 camry to a 2005 Magna. I Got 200000 trouble free driving out of my 2.2 Litre Camry.
Howerver I Did not like the New Camry. I Found the Magna to be better equiped, more comftable, look better, ride better and wow! a few gran cheaper. I was Worried about the fuel, but was pleasantly surprised to here I can get 10/11 litres per 100 out of the Magna and have power on hand to overtake.
I was also wondering about the stigma that seems to be attached to Magna's, but all the posts here and feedback I have from friends with them have made me look forward to some reliable, comftable and safe driving.
P.s I think the front looks well! o.k
Does anyone have a late model magna eg 2004, converted to lpg as a dual fuel, not factory fit, and can you tell me if there have been any problems.
Also can you please tell me how many km you get running on lpg, please include tank capacity, as I don't trust what the dealers say.
Anyone who thinks the TL/TW Magna had a ugly front end should take a look at the 2002-2006 Camry. The whole shape of that car was out of proportion. The fact they sold so many goes to show that a cars styling does not necessarily prevent sales.
As such, I think that Magna was snubbed because it is simply... a Magna. People can't get past the first model.
Yeah I agree. It always amazes me why holden can build any old heap of junk they like, but will never be blamed for it its always somebody elses fault. Yet mitsubishi can build comfortable safe reliable cars year after year and get no credit at all. Compare a mitsi v6 to a holden v6 and youll see what I mean. Maybe its the australian culture we are willing to accept substandard products and service.
I bought my first TL ES Magna in Feb 2006, a factory buy back with 36k on the clock. Since then I've done many trips between Melbourne and Sydney and am blown away by how awake I am at the other end. Usually, I'd be tired and suffering a sore back, but not in the Magna. Cruise control, six way electric drivers seat, climate control, stable handling and 8.3 ltr's per 100 k's with five adults and baggage. Four air bags and a car that looks like no-one wants to steal. Why would you buy a ford or holden just to have it targeted by hoons?
Our family loves station wagons and we have always owned a commodore. Tired of the poor quality paint work and interior fittings and eventual rusting of the tail gate door it was time for change.
When we found a 2005 Te wagon for $17000 from a dealer with so many features that Holden could never match, that was it.
The Magna is much quieter, smoother, heaps of power and a pleasure to drive. Why did it take me so long to find out about the Magna?
We are so impressed we bought an old 1996 Magna manual sedan for our son. For the age of the car the paint and interior is in great condition considering it is not garaged, we bought it from our neighbour. After 11years our commodores never looked as good.
Can any one tell me what problems I may encounter with the 1996 Magna?
Probably nothing. I have just sold my TS Magna for two and a half grand. I brought it for 3 grand five years ago because the owner just had to get rid of it. Apart from regular servicing and brake pads tyres etc. it cost me nothing. Just about a free car for five years. I have 17 grand to spend on a newer car, and it'll definitely be another Magna or if I can stretch the budget, a 380. Why they are so despised by the public? I'll never know.
I am in the process of purchasing a TL Es 04 Model Magna with 129000K's on the clock. Can anyone tell me if they have experienced any problems with this model Magna up to & over 150000Ks?
As for reliability & performance of Magnas; my parents, who are around 70 years old, still have a 2000 model Magna after 7 years. This is the longest that my father has ever owned any vehicle!! (It has 160K on the clock) and they love it.
After driving their Magna over a period of time, my wife & I have grown to love them as well... And as for the looks, the latest models are something that only a Mother Magna could love. (Not that Bad..Really) But, as mentioned in the earlier posts, what sort of hoon would steal one?
I am glad the general populous has not cracked on to Magna. It allows the average Aussie Joe the ability to be able to own a vehicle that compares in comfort to a BMW, without the ongoing pumped up costs.
I have a 2003 Magna TJ, so far have knocked up 144000 km on the original brake pads, (a lot of country driving) and the ride is great; no tiredness, as somebody else noted, and I think the car looks GREAT in the front end, and the rear spoiler, (flat, not rounded) sets it off perfectly.
Just recently having a problem maintaining speed after a couple of hours driving. Flies downhill and along the flat, but slows and baulks under acceleration, and crawls up hill if you stay under 1800 - 2000 revs. Replaced dizzy, plugs and leads and fuel filter to no avail on last trip. A service person at a dealership now thinks there may be a blockage or malfunction with the sock filter in the fuel tank.
Has any body else had this problem?
Will let you know results later this week.
