OK guys, it's a great car, but enough about the AIR BAGS!!

Across the back of the trunk of a 1998 I30 there is the plastic light assembly (They took this off later models).

After checking out about 5, 1998 I30's, including mine, I noticed that a gap starts to grow between the top of the plastic light assembly and the trunk. In fact I have seen gaps as big as 1/4". It appears that closing the trunk bends the vertical trunk metal inward ever so slightly that it moves away from the plastic light assembly. One guy on Ebay was trying to sell a new plastic light assembly because he thought it had warped. He admitted it was the trunk tweaked on him. Do other people have this problem and has anyone got this problem fixed?

I know everyone is tired of the air bag thing but I just had to say, I have been driving around for 4 years with this problem. I have a 1999 I30. Other than that and a coil going, it's been a fabulous car. I just sold the car and they will be surprise when they pick it up on Monday and the air bag light is off. It took 2 tries from my husband and a couple from me. Anyone know how long this fix will last? The buyer had his mechanic check it before the sale and he acted like he didn't know much about it to me but he is probably planning to fix it for new owner and make some $$$. HA-HA

I'm the original owner and it has just 68K miles. I have replaced it with the 2008 EX35 Infiniti and so far, I'm in love again...

I too have a 98 I30t with 115000 miles and have been driving around with the airbag light blinking in my face for a year and a half. I paid the dealer 90 bucks to tell me that it was the passenger seat module failing and that it was gonna cost me $325. for the part and another $300 for labor.

Yesterday I tried to trade in the car for a G 35 but they didn't want to give me hardly anything for it so we didn't buy the G 35..

Today I knew there had to be a cure for this stupid little annoyance and thank god I stumbled onto this website. I used the procedure and it worked the FIRST TIME!!! Thank you to whoever took the time to post this procedure.. Maybe you should run for president this year and fix our economy too...

The airbag light started blinking about 4 months back. Despite several tries to do the reset, it did not work. Then about a month back, it magically stopped blinking. But, only for some time... It started blinking again and when I asked the dealership to check it, they charged me $150 to say that there is a fault with the passenger side airbag and it was going to cost me $440 or so to fix that. I declined and will try again by checking for anything loose under the passenger seat and then doing the reset.

I think this problem warrants a class action lawsuit since it seems to be a defect and not a wear and tear problem.
