I own a 2001 durango xlt. bought it with 122,000 miles for $5000 off a friend. as well as many other people, my heat / a/c only worked on high. I did some googleing and found out that it's a malfunction of a part called a "blower resistor". a $20 part. I bought one, installed it in less that 15 minutes, and now my heat works fine on all settings.

Further to my previous posts, following the Dealer repair of my Dodge Durango Gearbox I noticed a very slight rubbing noise which I thought may be the engine belt tensioner, but before I had time to troubleshoot any further the gearbox failed again. I now suspect the front pump as the noise - now very loud indeed is even there in neutral at idle. The previuos repair has worked out at 1c / mile, - out of warranty now of course. I'm totally fed up with this car, I've had to spend on this car like no other I've ever owned, and how in the end I've GIVEN the car away... and I didn't have many takers for that either. What a sad case, and a complete waste of money. Goodbye Dodge, it wasn't nice knowing you. NEVER again!

I have a 2001 R/T and trany problems.:) It will not shift up to 3rd and some times 2nd. But when it's cold it has no problems at all and shifts fine. I'll try the relay thing to see if that helps. I'll post my findings later.

I am interested in buying a 2000-2002 Dodge Durango R/T I really like the look of them and I know the gas mileage isn't good, but its better then what I have now. I've herd of the trans problems and I've heard there are some people who say they didn't have any problems. What should I do??

I bought a new 2001 R/T when gas was affordable. Haven't had too many issues with it until the last 2 years. At about 65000 miles, the water pump went. Shortly after, the intake manifold gasket started to leak. Then the AC condenser coil went. Last week the clock spring and the body control module went. Cost me $900. I brought the truck in yesterday because the transmission wasn't shifting into 2nd. Mechanic called me this morning to tell me I need to have it rebuilt. $3000! It has 95000 miles on it and I really like the truck, but between the gas and the repairs the last couple of years, It's killing me. By the way, I changed the fluids and did everything by the book. I wish I would have leased it.

'01 Durango SLT 4.7

Mine has been trouble free with only regular maintenance, just turned over 100,000 miles. Just noticed when running with cruise at 55, 1600 rpm, the tach will intermittently rise to about 1900 then drop back down. Sound familiar to anyone? Am I on the way to something worse?

2001 5.9 Durango at the dealer right now... I have 115 K miles on it... no problem until now... just so happens 5 k miles ago I had transmission serviced and put in lucas trans treatment as suggested... several months later I took to dealer for recall on stick shift popping out of park... now I cannot put it into park (at least as per electric signal).. they have dropped pan and are looking...

Something tells me I am going to get kicked pretty hard... maybe I should have taken the vehicle to the dealer to have trans serviced vs. quick lube... and was there a recall on the upper/lower ball joints? I have one that is bad and it needs fixed???

I have a 2001 Durango R/T.

Tranny problems; problems started with slipping in OD. then no drive, 1st, 2nd, etc. Flushed and serviced. Lucas as well. Took it down the road; had to hit N to get it shift. Reset with a battery disconnect. Shifted and ran perfect for 5 miles.

Replaced all electrical parts when the pan was off. Put in drive and nothing. Had to take off in first and shift manual. Worked OK for 3 miles then OD kicked out by itself.

Dealer service guy told me that I needed a PCM. Tried the relay, didn't work. Took relay out, took off in 2nd. Going to do the fuse deal. Thanks for the suggestions.

Love the truck but very frustrated.

Also main window switch, gas fill broke loose. No ball joints yet, knock on plastic.

I just bought a 2001 Automatic Dodge Durango. After reading all of these comments I'm a bit worried. We have NO warranty on it. My husband leaves for Iraq in Feb. and I don't know ANYTHING about cars so is there anything I should have him check out before leaving?

Thanks!

With my dodge 5.9L, the shifting problems I had were with the throttle positioning sensor. A 70 dollar part and 15 min to change it, since then no problems.

I own a 2001 Durango and have had it for four years.

There was a recall on the ball joints a few years back.

I have had good luck with this truck so far. Stupid things have gone on it but not too bad (mainly find a good mechanic!).

I had to have my brakes redone three time before the were right (again find a good mechanic).

Just recently the rpm's have started jumping up and down, supposedly it's the throttle positioning sensor ($30) and I tried to replace it myself, but didn't want to break it.

The only other things I have had wrong are the actuator box (dealer says possible), and the heat does not blow out on defrost, it blows out at the feet. Haven't fixed it yet because they said $400.00 for the part (but I get them cheaper because I have family that work for parts stores).

Other than that, I love this truck and I feel safe in the snow!!
