Greetings fellow alfistas!
Purchasing an alfa romeo is always a special occasion since the looks, performance, and italian style will make your life special. on the other hand we all know that with italian cars also come several problems! stupid problems that they don't pay attention too, making some people very annoyed! now I am currently an owner of an alfa gt 3.2 end of 2004 model, and I will agree with some people expressing there problems with the right passenger window getting stuck, and the rattles in the back rear hatch. in addition to the rattles my car seems to have a problem with the back seat; specifically when parking my car some pressure is always applied on the right rear wheel (suspension) of the car since the angle of my parking is upward, this causes a sharp squeak (rattle, I can't describe!!!) to the back column next to the rear seat. when I do the same with the rear seats down the problem is solved, so I am guessing that the chassis may bend a bit causing the plastics to apply pressure to the rear seat resulting to the annoying sound. other than that I have no problems mechanically, the suspension is very good, and the brakes are perfect. now my car is for service its done 26,000 km's I change the oil every 5000-6000 km's and now I am changing my front brake pads. Alternatively I am thinking of changing the rear bumper with an autodelta bumper equipped with the dual exhaust pipe set, and getting tinted windows; the car is red rosso and tanned leather inside, so it should look good.
The GT is one of the most beautiful cars on the road. I purchased a used 04 reg 1.9 JTD August 06 and have been very happy with it most of the time. Try getting 48 - 50 mpg from any other coupe. As a certain Mr J. Clarkson has indicated that you have not owned a car until you own an Alfa and know the heaven and hell of owning one. A great drivers car that loves flat straights and the twisty stuff and inspires each time you drive it.
Problems quite a few some minor some expensive. Windows sticking, Electric windows opening when away from the car. Leak into the cabin causing a musty smell, stiff acting passenger side seat rear access, radio packing in, steering rack needs replacing, and timing belt snapping due to poor workmanship by Alfa dealership (very expensive if not under warranty). I have got to know my local dealership very well, and bar the timing belt incident, they are a friendly and supportive and probably one of the best I have ever dealt with.
The Alfa Romeo GT is a cracking car and has got me hooked. Looks like I will go for another GT or a 159 JTDm Sportswagon after getting one as a courtesy car.
