I cannot believe all of heater core issues. I purchased a new Diamante LS in 2003, and my heater core is now in need of repair. The antifreeze smell is SOOO strong in the car, that it is basically undriveable until fixed... this is completely RIDICULOUS!!! I am hoping that everyone with this problem is making a complaint to the NHTSA. This repair is WAY too costly to go unrecognized. HAS ANYONE EVER HEARD OF A CLASS ACTION SUIT FOR THIS PROBLEM?

Original post Nov 9.

2001 Mitsubishi Diamonte now with 106500 miles. The transmission problem was the clutch packs needed replacing along with re-manufactured torque converter. At the tune of $1650 for dealer to rebuild transmission. 2 days and less than 30 miles while driving at 30 MPH front tires locked up and skidded to a stop. Dealer replaced solenoids, which I then left the dealership and within 20 yards front tires skidded to a stop and had to be taken back to shop. After 2 weeks of not being able to fix a leak in the 3rd gear clutch pack the dealer ordered in a rebuilt tranny at their expense. Still waiting on car.

Here's to add another heater core problem. This is amazing! I have 2001 Diamonte, smoke coming out of the vents and my passenger side floor is soaked with antifreeze!

And to top it off my antenna motor doesn't work either!

I own a 2002 diamante vrx and the heater core is shot as well. It fogged up my windows at about 70000 miles. The antenna stopped working around 35000 miles. The power seats don't work and the steering feels funny. Everyone is complaining about the same problem, but I suppose nobody knows how to get mitsubishi do do something.

I have purchased a used Mitsubishi Diamante LS in 2005 the car was running well until the heating core problem which ruined the interior carpet on the driver's side. Along with that I was in a small fender bender which is coming out of my pocket and the parts are so expensive because the car isn't being made anymore the headlight assy costs $424, the side mirror costs around $300. My antenna motor doesn't work and to top it off my trunk won't open, and I didn't get a key when purchased so I have to replace the trunk latch which will be another $200 for the dealership to open the trunk and replace it.

Reading these comments about the same issue is just awful. I own a 2002 VR-X that is such a hot and eye-catching car, however I am this close to scrapping it in favor of a boring, bland "I'm nobody" Camry. At 60K I started smelling that antifreeze smell and had the heater core O-rings replaced at the dealer for $853 on February 8, 2007. Well guess what I smell now? And since it only has a one year warranty, I returned it to the dealer just for them to tell me that nothing's wrong. Riiiiight. At 85K, my antennae decided to break, which is OK with me seeing I am a iPod guy anyway. Those wretched ABS and TCL lights stay illuminated all the time. This started at about 65K. Now today I go to start the car to go to work and it won't turn over. It tries like heck, but can't. I'm hoping it is the timing belt because I never had that replaced. I like this car and I love the way it feels, but this is just unacceptable. I speak mainly of the heater core because I have had several cars in my life and never even heard of this part of a car. I even contacted Mitsubishi in California and explained that my having to replace this part is so out of the ordinary that something has to be done for me. A rep called me back just to say there's nothing he can do, meanwhile I'm reading about these nightmares all over the place. And to think I gave up a 1998 Malibu with 167K and NEVER had anything fail on it ever for this. Granted the Malibu wasn’t the best looking car, but at least it worked all the time and nothing ever broke on it. Then I get this thing. Sick!

I have 2002 Diamante and around 45000 miles my transmission cannot shift from neutral to drive position. The dealer said it is heater core problem and the antifreeze is leaking. I paid $1000 to fix it.

Now the ABS/Traction control light comes on very frequently. Mt dealer said my rear passenger side ABS sensor needs to be replaced. Of course my antenna motor has been replaced last year.

I think all of these problems are very similar, and the manufacturer should recall all the cars to replace them. I am very afraid what could be the next problem.

I have a Mitsubishi Diamante LS 2002 with 80,000 miles...

I smell antifreeze constantly in my car. I took it to the shop and the mechanic tells me that the rubber from the heater core is being burnt. I haven't had any problems with it leaking, but I did buy the car used. I can tell from the floor mats, that it did leak before.

My check engine light came on about 3 months ago. I had it put on a machine, and it stated that I needed to replace 2 oxygen sensors, which cost $300 a piece for the part, not including labor.

To top that, as soon as I got my car back my fuel gauge quit working, so now I don't know how much gas I have in my car. I knew that it was going to go out because it was floating around to the point that I didn't know if my car was burning a lot of gas or not. I was told that I need a "fuel sending unit", which is well over $1000. I don't have that type of money to be spending.

Mitsubishi doesn't have a lot of after market parts, and their parts and labor is entirely too expensive, and I agree that they do not back up their product, and all these defects need to have a recall on them.

I had a Mitsubishi Galant and didn't have that many problems. My sister drives a Mitsubishi Mirage, and she have enough problems too. I will never buy another Mitsubishi, and would never recommend anyone to buy one either!

I cannot believe all of these complaints. The problem I am writing about is about the same as everyone else here. The heater core is steaming up my windows, and the power antenna quit working approx. 1 year ago. I called a Mits dealer in Massachusetts and they gave me a ball park price of 1100.00 to fix the heater problem and a ball park price of 300.00 to fix the antenna. It is a nice car, but it is getting expensive to keep. A rust spot appeared over the right rear wheel well and the dealer service manger told me that the body was covered for certain period against rust and corrosion, but guess what, mine wasn't covered. My Diamante is a 2002 and it only has 55,000 miles on it.

OK, this is truly unbelievable! I just bought a 2002 Diamante ES and it drives wonderfully. Although you can smell the antifreeze and the antenna makes a horrible noise only when the radio is first turned on. The antenna is always up though! There is also some sort of purr to the motor, but I think that's OK. How do we find out about getting this stuff recalled? I've counted about 20 people so far who have posted the same exact heater core problem and antenna problem.

My situation was similar although the ecm wasn't defective. I bought the mitsubishi ecm from ecmoutlet view the thread here http://www.ecmoutlet.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=2 and it never malfunctioned. It was the primary eclipse ecu that failed.
