In reply to the comment about putting this engine in a track car; if you want advice, try something different. I say this because as good and powerful as this engine is, it's also very heavy. I would recommend a 4 cylinder turbo charged engine, as we all know power to weight is one of the main keys in clocking up fast lap times.

This engine is well suited to the Scorpio, as it's a large motorway cruiser, not a race car.

We are talking about cosworth version and not the 1997 one.

Rst's do it in 8.2 nd the 2.9 scorpio cosworth is definatly faster in both acceleration and top speed.

Aswell I agree with you if you that the cars looks grow on you as it isn't tthe best looking car. also the quality and the interior and accesories nd everything is great. cruise control isn't something you would normaly get in a car of the early 90s. you wouldn't even find it in most of todays cars.

(my spelling aint very good)

it even has a light on the sun viser mirror, now that's luxery, electric seats all sorts. and also my car has done over 155 mph on one of those auto bahn roads in germany. I'm not lying and speedo's are never that much out of sync with the real speed. judging by most of these guys comments it kind of proves that the car can give a lot more than 140 mph which is around what the stats say.. even my old standard escort turbo (before is sold it) went off the clock on the nearest 5 mile road. inly just though took some time to get there. anyway enough about bloody performance it's a car of comfort nd luxury and it is a great car and very fun to get sideways in the wet.

"And to the guy who used to sell them for a living I think your talking pants also since when does selling a car for a living qualify you for real road testing chances are you were some guy dressed in a suit and never left the office (you know the Finance type"

No I was selling them.

I got to drive these at new to two years old when they had low miles and proper comprehensive Ford maintenance and hence performed as they should. I've also taken every performance Ford from the early 90's around the Ford proving ground at Boreham on corporate days, and driven one of these around Brands Hatch on a customer experience day.

More than you ever have or will I suspect.

The only pants being talked on here is that one of these will do 165, and how people with what are now five hundred quid bangers are getting more out of them than qualified road testers could get out of fit examples 10 years ago.

Delusional.

I have a 2.3 Scorpio, 1997 automatic. These cars were VERY good cars back then. They say 160mph on the clock, yes, but they will easily do this because mine is an automatic and will do 70mph at just 2,500rpm. I think they will easily go over 160mph.

As for the Cossy Sierra, with 170mph on the clock, I wouldn't be at all surprised if it sailed past 160mph.

What you need to do is what I'm doing to achieve the right figures. Lose the heavy Granada, buy an old classic TVR that weighs 700KG, put on a manual gearbox and uprate ECU and air intake system. She'll be pushing 220BHP+, estimated 0-60 sub 5 seconds and 170MPH+. May cost a bit more, but it will give right figures. Also helps as cossie lamp has only 48K from new and FSH.

I don't agree with Scorpio Cosworths doing anymore than 145mph!!! I've got one myself and I took it to the limits; I get 50mph in first, I think 85 mph in second, 125mph in 3rd, and 145in 4th, so can you please tell me how you people manage to get crazy speeds like 160mph or even more???

And a 2.3 Scorpio will never do even 140, let alone more than 160 LOL.

I get 128mph in 3rd, and have never tested the top speed. 0-60 in under 7 seconds. Have removed all 4 catalytic converters and fitted a K&N induction system. Have 2 x 2,5" -> 3" exhaust. Great sound from the V6, especially around 4000rpm. The only thing I don't like about the car is the A4LD.. I have had several Scorpios and there has always been something "wrong" with the automatic transmission. But it is great fun to make the car "eat up" the rear tyres while standing still in 2nd gear.. ;)

Fitted new Brembo discs and EBC Red Stuff in each corner of the car today. My Cosworth feels like new again! I will be fitting a complete Power-flex bushing-kit tomorrow. Can't wait to feel the difference. The rear end is not so stiff anymore, so new polyurethane bushes will make great difference.

Any one who know where I can get hold of rear end gears with 4.10 ratio for the 7,5" differential? I wanna mount a Quaife differential with 4.10:1, I guess the acceleration will be improved a lot.

Now, to the one who started this thread, I have a question:

"One connector in engine caused intermittent engine cut outs on left hand bends."

Which connector? I have the exact same problem.

Best Regards

Robert.
